High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1488: Chapter 232: Brushing Past Each Other

”Just one bag of gold, and you can receive the great protection of Lord Bastit! What better deal could there be?!”

”Not a hundred bags, not ten bags, just one bag of gold!”

”Once worn, you won’t encounter any danger in the city of Wusa!” the small dwarf merchant quickly overcame the shock brought by the Little Witch’s erratic thoughts and continued to eagerly promote his amulets: ”And all it takes is one bag of gold!”

Zhuzhu sighed quietly for unknown reasons.

”I’m really sorry,” she puffed her cheeks, her red pupils filled with apology: ”Though I am also afraid of danger, I’m more afraid of my captain... If the captain finds out I worshipped other divine spirits, he would eat me.”

With that said, she shook her head, hands behind her back, and bounced away from the dwarf’s shop to catch up with Nikita, who was about to disappear into the crowd.

The dwarf merchant stood staring dazedly at the back of the Little Witch leaving, then spat angrily on the ground after a while.

Turning around, he saw two sturdy male warlocks squatting in front of his stall in red robes, looking at another wood carving of a frog-like God, whispering to each other about something.

One was a round-headed, round-faced fat man with blue skin; the other was notably a red-faced burly man. Judging by their attire and appearance, they were clearly foreigners.

The dwarf’s eyes brightened, and he immediately approached them.

The two male warlocks were whispering to each other.

”This must be a sculpture of Satoguya.”

”I think it’s a Moon Beast... The Doctor told me that the Moon Beasts from Dreamland look quite like a big frog.”

”But it doesn’t have tentacles around its mouth! And if I remember correctly, Moon Beasts are supposed to be white, this sculpture is nearly purplish-black, quite similar to Satoguya.”

”Satoguya has short fur, not this oily skin...”

”Hey, you’re the boss, right!” the blue-skinned fatty rudely asked the dwarf merchant, turning his head: ”Then you definitely know whose sculpture this is, right!”

”Of course!” the dwarf confidently nodded, hands on his hips: ”The great Satoguya...”

The Blue Fatty immediately looked smugly at his companion.

The dwarf quickly added, changing his pitch: ”...and the descendant of the great Mother of Moon Beasts! Possessing it, you can gain both the friendship of the Moon Beast clan and the favor of Lord Satoguya!”

The Blue Fatty’s face turned somewhat dark, while his companion, the Red-faced Male Wizard, was clutching his belly, laughing so hard he was out of breath.

”Just one bag of gold!” the dwarf waved his short arms, shouting hoarsely: ”One bag of gold! You can obtain the protection of both the Lords! Is there any better deal than this?! Absolutely not!”

The two foreigners stood up.

”Faith is not for sale,” the Blue Fatty sternly refused the dwarf’s pitch: ”Protection is not a business. You are defiling these sacred words.”

However, the Red-faced Male Wizard appeared more naive, honestly telling the dwarf: ”Actually, we don’t even have a bag of gold... We’re new here, we still don’t know what the currency is here.”

The dwarf, once again frustrated, spat on the ground.

The Fatty and Zhang Ji Xin returned to the street, continuing to walk along with the flow of people.”

”By the way, the captain and the others should have arrived by now.” The Blue Fatty was looking around as he spoke: ”I wonder where Furry Bean has run off to...”

”It’s time to find the Black Cat,” Zhang Ji Xin answered slowly. ”By the way, did you smell anything on that dwarf just now?”

”Hmm, a faint scent of a Demon,” Blue Fatty said nonchalantly, waving his hand, ”It’s probably just the residual scent left by some passing Demon. Let’s not get sidetracked for now...”

The Red-faced Male Wizard silently nodded his head.

The two continued to walk forward along the crowd.

...

...

When Zhuzhu found Nikita, the Female Demon was standing in front of a divination stall, bending over and carefully examining an aged Parchment.

The stall had a large purple umbrella, with golden fringes and conchs hanging from the ribs, swaying in the breeze. There was a huge table under the umbrella, covered with a purple tablecloth that looked fluffy and shimmered with a faint white light in the sunset. On the table, there was a thick book, several rolls of Parchment, ink, and a purple Feather Pen. But what was most eye-catching was an intricately carved copper pot with a narrow mouth and a large belly.

An old witch with a huge hooked nose sat behind the table, wrapped in a thick purple Cloak, covering her head, neck, and body completely, leaving only her wrinkled face exposed.

Her skinny hands, resembling the claws of a Raven, caressed the copper pot, mumbling to herself.

A pearlescent Mist emanated from the pot, forming a small figure with a headscarf, who held a Feather Pen and left a series of fancy script on the aged Parchment.

The Little Witch leaned in closer.

The Parchment was inscribed with black ink in a poetic fashion:

”The evening glow burns,

unavoidable misfortune.

We stand at the end of life,

weeping bitterly with dreams and illusions in arms.

Yet unable to change our own Destiny.”

The Little Witch looked up at the blood-red clouds on the horizon, as if blood was burning. A chilly breeze blew, and she tightened her pretty little robe, shivering.

”What is this?” she asked Nikita in a low voice.

”I don’t know,” the Female Demon shook her head, ”It’s neither a prophecy nor a scripture. It looks more like a romantic poet lamenting over Destiny.”

”Isn’t this for you?” Zhuzhu looked puzzled at the Female Demon, then at the Diviner sitting behind the stall wrapped in a Cloak, utterly clueless.

”No,” Nikita stood up straight, calmly replied: ”I was just standing here, and that thing in the copper pot just came out and wrote this.”

Zhuzhu carefully glanced at the old witch.

The old witch half-squinted her eyes, seemingly not hearing the conversation of the patrons. A soft meow erupted from her embrace, and a golden-graduated paw stretched out from under the purple Cloak, stretching lazily with its pads spread out comfortably, making the Little Witch almost want to reach out and pinch it.

”Excuse me,” the Little Witch, suppressing the urge in her heart, politely asked the old witch, ”Have you seen a pair of Warlocks and a Witch, with a gray dog, about this size?”

She pulled out a portrait from her bosom, drawn based on the descriptions of the Zuge, though as Zuge and Wizard were not the same kind of creature, there inevitably were issues similar to ’face blindness,’ so their provided images were of limited reference significance.
