High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1454: Chapter 198: Bones Like Tides

Zheng Qing brought his injured finger to his mouth and carefully sucked on it.

The wound was small and did not affect his ability to cast spells. The Warlock looked back at the Sapium tree, shook his head, and continued to follow the team. Due to the dim light, he did not notice that at the tip of the little thorn that had pricked him, there hung a drop of crimson blood.

As they proceeded, the young wizards saw several skeletal frameworks wandering in the darkness, including the common unicorns and griffins of the Magic World, as well as the bizarre species long lost in history, such as birds with three heads and six tails, and fish that were half-fish and half-snake, etc.

The two groups did not interfere with each other, clearly separated, but the guests’ rustling footsteps intertwined with the clacking sounds of the skeletons wandering, adding a touch of mystery to this tranquil world.

”Without souls, how do those skeletons move?” Fat Man stared at a skeleton resembling a wild boar that ran past in front of him, his throat knot almost submerged by fat slightly trembling.

Xiao Xiao held the Crystal Ball, commanding the team to correct their path, and briefly explained: ”... There are too many unexplainable phenomena in magic. If we just question their existence because they lack souls, then the real existence of Gaia should be conclusive, not a millennium unsolved mystery listed in the Great Encyclopedia.”

”What is the source of their energy then? The residual magic power in the bones?”

”... Museum elders guess that it’s the moonlight and the starry sky that give them the power to move, and of course, some believe it is the power of the school.”

”School?”

”It’s First University! Has nobody ever told you that this campus is alive?”

”Doctor...”

”Say it outside if you have anything else!” Xiao Xiao, somewhat irritable, interrupted Fat Man’s new question, the Crystal Ball in his hand flashing a dangerously pale red light: ”In a strange area, we need to be cautious and always stay alert!”

Jiang Yu tugged on Zheng Qing’s robe sleeve.

”I think, Fat Man wanted to remind Doctor that the ’guests’ around us are a bit too many?” Her voice was not loud, but it sounded unusually clear in the spacious exhibition hall.

The response to her was a series of distinct clacking sounds.

Clack clack clack, clack clack!

A ghastly white color surged out from the darkness, blocking the path of the young wizards.

The Hunting team suddenly stopped in their tracks, surveying their surroundings, only to realize that at some point, their left, right, even behind them and the ceiling, were all covered with bizarre skeletal frameworks. The number was so large that Zheng Qing was initially unable to determine how many there were exactly.

A massive lion skeleton stood right in front of Zheng Qing.

The reason he could clearly discern that it was a lion was because the moonlight fell on the ghastly white skeleton, creating ripples like a thin veil attached to it, vividly outlining the appearance of a lion, even the flowing mane was clearly visible.

”Ao~~!”

The Silver Lion raised its head and roared silently at the Warlock, the invisible moonlight transforming into a moon-white colored hurricane, making the robes of the young wizards flutter loudly.

Through the wide-open mouth of the silver lion, with the faint moonlight serving as a backdrop, the scattered sharp fangs were clearly visible. Zheng Qing had no doubts that if bitten, half of his body would disappear into that enormous maw.

This lion was merely one observer among many.

There were other exotic beast skeletons—a pale Meng, Barbarian Sheep, a flood dragon with two heads, a hellhound with three heads, a crocodile with scales and firelight, a big bird wreathed in electric light, a rabbit as big as a donkey, two fish dragging a light boat, an ape with deer antlers, a crab carrying a frog, among countless others.

”What are you looking at! Run!!”

Zhang Ji Xin roared loudly, his muscles bulged as he struck with his fists, creating an invisible shock wave from his center that surged forward, blasting open a narrow passage amidst the beast bones that had just closed in.

Simultaneously, Xin Fat Man’s entire body burst with blue radiance, his size increasing several folds at an astonishing speed, turning from an ordinary man into a giant in a blink of an eye.

Because many large magical creatures were on display here, the exhibition hall had been magicked to expand its space. Although a Blue Giant was somewhat out of place, it didn’t make the hall feel crowded.

”Grab my belt!”

The Blue Giant roared at his companions, his voice booming like thunder. With a sweep of his hand, he scooped up the other four members of the Hunting Team, hanging them on his belt. Then, protecting his head with his arms, he charged headfirst through the narrow passage.

Zheng Qing opened his mouth to say something but was silenced by a gust of cold air.

The sound from the exit was drowned out by the noise of shattering skeletons and cracking sounds. The public-funded student saw the rabbit, as big as a donkey, being knocked flying by the Blue Giant and landing on the crocodile with fiery scales, its skull crushed by the crocodile’s bite.

”I’m going to be fired!”

His face filled with sorrow, he looked at Xiao Xiao hanging on the other side of Banna’s belt, screaming, ”That Griffin, I’ve only seen images in books, even selling our shop won’t cover the costs! ... And I’m still under school probation! Weren’t we supposed to pass through quietly?”

The Griffin was the rabbit as big as a donkey, native to Bashan, knowledgeable in curses. It was said that its ancestors had once battled the ancient great warlock Hou Yi for several days, captured after defeat, and hence it cursed Hou Yi to die by Feng Meng’s hand.

”Have you shut up yet?!” Xiao Xiao fiercely threw the crystal ball in his hand, which traced a beautiful arc in the air and knocked a three-headed dog flying. He then turned and roared at Zheng Qing, ”...And do you think they had any intention of letting us pass peacefully?”

Zheng Qing lowered his head, a colossal spider quickly moved its eight long legs, its huge pincers hooking onto the Blue Giant’s calf. Banna let out an agonized howl.

”Flowing Fire in July!” Without hesitation, Zheng Qing flipped open Law book and cast one of the most ferocious spells he had at the spider.

Reddish flames fell like drizzle from the sky, landing on the spider.

In an instant, it turned to a puff of fine ash.

This scene slightly pushed the bones back a few steps but, in the blink of an eye, they crazily surged forward again, like corpses controlled by black magic.

”Why did they suddenly go mad?” Jiang Yu flipped her Law book incessantly, and vines emerged from the void, turning into ropes that bound those bone skeletons chasing the Blue Giant into a bundle.

”Who knows!” Zhang Ji Xin, being hung at the belt and unable to move his fists, clumsily flipped through his law book. Hearing this, he grouched, ”...A few days ago in Magic Potion Class, when I accidentally went into the Hundred Herb Gardens, I carelessly tossed incense ash over my right shoulder, could it be because of that?”
