Chapter 1489: Chapter 233 Minis Tavern

The old witch in the purple cloak took a careful look at the portrait.

It featured a short-haired warlock in a red robe with a black cat tail; a long-haired witch also in a red robe with a pair of white cat ears amongst her hair; and a grimy, ferocious-looking dog with a hateful face, beside which was labeled ’mew,’ indicating that this dog could meow like a cat.

”Strangers?”

The old witch blinked, her gaze landing on the hair color of the two young wizards: ”Their hair is black? And they have a dog that can mimic a cat’s meow?”

”Yes. They haven’t been in this city long,” Zhuzhu’s eyes were fixed on the golden-gradient cat paw peeking out from under the old witch’s cloak, but she answered the questions politely: ”If you could tell us where they went...”

As she spoke, she pulled out a heavy bag of gold.

It was ’borrowed’ from a gnome merchant she had just been chatting with.

Placed on the purple tablecloth, the gold made a heavy sound. The old witch, who had been squinting, suddenly opened her eyes wide, and the cat under the cloak also revealed an amber pupil.

”What a... pity.” The old witch greedily eyed the bag of gold, hesitated for a long time, but ultimately didn’t dare lie in front of the two demons: ”I have not seen the people in the portrait.”

”Oh.” Zhuzhu’s tone did not carry much disappointment. She did not expect to find those people just by asking casually. She picked up the bag of gold again, but unexpectedly, the old witch’s skinny paw grabbed one corner of the bag.

”I can provide some clues.” The old witch licked her lips, looking eagerly at the young female demon.

Zhuzhu hesitated for a second, then turned to look at Nikita.

Nikita was still studying the little poem.

But she seemed to notice Zhuzhu’s gaze and nodded slightly.

The young female demon yanked the bag of gold back into her arms, then opened the bag and took out a few gold coins, throwing them onto the purple tablecloth: ”If it’s just for some clues... this should be enough.”

The old witch, slightly disappointed, quickly picked up the gold coins, biting each one.

Not afraid of chipping her teeth, Zhuzhu thought maliciously as she watched the old witch’s dry mouth with only a few yellow teeth remaining, while promptly tapping the table to urge her on.

”If you want to find someone, asking in that tavern over there definitely won’t be wrong,” the old witch replied calmly: ”But if you are looking for people with black hair, you should go to ’Minis’s Kitty’s Tavern’... That place has the highest concentration of black-haired people in the whole Foggy city.”

”A tavern?” Nikita turned back, pondering for a moment: ”Hmm, just so happens I’d like to have a drink too.”

Unlike her, the young female demon’s attention was more easily captivated by things that were suitable for a young female demon: ”Kitty’s Tavern, does that mean that there are a lot of cats in that place?”

”No, there is only one black cat in that tavern.” The wrinkles on the old witch’s face stretched out, revealing an enigmatic smile: ”And no one knows whether that cat is alive or dead.”

...

...

The figures of the two female demons had just disappeared into the crowd.

In front of the divination stand under the purple umbrella, a number of local vendors who did business nearby had gathered.

The chicken stand owner, dressed in a white apron, chubby and bald, cautiously asked: ”The two customers just now...”

”They’re the legendary demons, right?” The fruit stand owner with a small mustache confidently looked at the old witch: ”Those scarlet eyes of theirs, one look from a distance could scare someone to death!”

Vampires also have red eyes...”

”There’s never been a vampire in Wusa City, ghouls are more like it!”

”Have you ever seen such a beautiful ghoul?”

”Shut up!” The skinny old witch slammed her bony claws heavily on the purple tablecloth, quelling the commotion in front of the stall: ”Did none of you see the pattern on the tall Female Demon’s shoulder?”

”Looks like an uppercase ’M’?”

”That’s a mark of the Mist Captain under the Sea Demon King.” No matter where they are, diviners are always the most learned beings, and the old witch easily confirmed the identities of the Female Demons: ”It’s an existence no less great than the venerable Bastit.”

”What’s a subordinate of the Sea Demon King doing in Wusa City,” the diminutive jewelry shop owner wringed her fingers anxiously: ”We don’t have a sea here...”

”But we have cats!” the old witch answered with certainty: ”Even demons cannot resist the charm of these god-chosen creatures... We must report this to the temple.”

”The wandering merchant caravan is coming!”

”The wandering merchant caravan is coming! Their camels at the front have already passed the city gate!”

The newsboy dressed in gray shorts dashed from one end of the street to the other, shouting and relaying the latest news to the merchants in the market: ”They want colored glass beads, wood carvings from dead trees, and transparent pebbles! There are a lot of them, and they will eat a lot!”

The small merchants gathered around the divination stall scattered at once, quickly returning to their own stalls to welcome a wave of new customers.

Only the old witch slowly packed up the parchments and hardcover books on her purple tablecloth.

Then she caressed the spout of the slender copper pot with her withered fingers, watching the pearly mist spewing out of the spout, muttering to herself: ”Bastit, Bastit, Bastit...”

A plump golden shaded cat crawled out from beneath the old witch’s robe, its large, round head rubbing against her leg.

The old witch took out a gold coin given by the Female Demon and stuffed it into the small leather pouch around the cat’s neck, then stroked its soft neck fur: ”Go on, go, Bastit’s favorite, tell Elder Atar that strangers have arrived in town...”

Fat Cat slid off the old witch’s leg to the ground, darting swiftly from under the table and in the blink of an eye, it had disappeared into the bustling street, leaving no trace.

...

...

”Do we really not need to go back to the temple?” Zheng Qing pushed open the butterfly spring door, glancing back at Xiao Xiao: ”By the way, how did we get out of the museum just now?”

”Magic.” The Doctor answered simply: ”Once you’ve asked what you needed to, there was no reason to stay.”

”Then why did we come here?”

”Because I’m hungry.” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, giving a faint look: ”And this is the closest place that sells food.”

The noisy voices of people poured into the ears of the Young Wizard as the door was pushed open.

The everlasting scent of smoke, the rich aromas of wine and roast meat, along with the loud chatter of travelers from different paths mixed together, combined with the dim light inside the tavern, creating an atmosphere that melded savagery with civilization.

”Welcome to Minis’ Kitty’s Tavern!”

The tavern’s Servant greeted the guests who had just entered enthusiastically: ”We have the tastiest roast meat in Wusa City, the most refreshing drinks, and the most mysterious cats!”
