High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1472: Chapter 216: Under Kela Mountain

Perhaps because of their similar size, Banna and Zhang Ji Xin fell into the same courtyard.

Like two meteors, they smashed two irregular deep pits in this small yard.

The Blue Giant lazily lay at the bottom of the pit and didn’t even bother to get up before he began to shout, ”Furry Bean? Furry Bean! Quickly get the others to come over and give me a pull!”

A gray shadow jumped out of the void, landing by the ear of the Blue Giant, panting with its tongue out, biting his ear trying to drag the fat man out of the pit, pulling so hard that he yelped and howled.

”Quiet!”

Zhang Ji Xin, who got up first, gestured to the fat man, his face showing a trace of seriousness: ”We’ve been separated. It’s just the two of us here.”

The man and dog immediately quieted down.

Zhang Ji Xin climbed out of the pit and looked around.

This was a deserted courtyard, the aura inside was somewhat gloomy, uncertain if it was inhabited.

Wild roses and wisteria climbed through the cracks of the surrounding wall, a small vegetable garden in the yard overrun with weeds, a hemp rope tied to the well, and a damp wooden bucket carelessly tossed onto the muddy ground.

Looking beyond the stone walls of the courtyard.

In the far distance, there was a dense forest, beyond which rolled gentle hills, and a river winding like a ribbon through the hillocks. Large tracts of cultivated farmland showed fertile soil, with a few wisps of smoke vaguely rising at the end of the fields.

That indicated human habitation.

”Where is this?” Xin Fat Man climbed out of the pit and asked softly.

Furry Bean had already vanished into the void again.

”I don’t know.” Zhang Ji Xin tightened the gloves on his hands, folded the few pieces of Talisman paper given by Zheng Qing, and stuffed them inside the gloves near the back of his hand to avoid losing them in case of conflict.

He bent his thumb and pointed backward, adding, ”But I know that we’re at the foot of a mountain... If everyone is nearby, they would definitely be able to see this mountain.”

Xin Fat Man turned his head to take a look, finally understanding why there was always a somber air flowing through this courtyard.

Because it was situated at the base of a great mountain.

The steep peak pierced the clouds, and halfway up the mountain, one could see the winding mists. And this courtyard was enveloped in the shadow of the great mountain, inevitably cold and gloomy.

There was still no movement inside the house, and the two warlocks did not wish to cause further trouble. Zhang Ji Xin placed a gold bean under the windowsill as compensation for damaging the yard before pulling Xin Fat Man along to leave.

Neither of them noticed that the moment they left the courtyard, the originally sealed window cracked open, and a soft tentacle stretched out, taking the gold bean from the windowsill inside.

The steps in front of the door seemed to have been destroyed by floodwaters, showing many signs of collapse; the path below the steps was even more overwhelmed by weeds and disordered stones, nearly obscuring any trace of it.

”If you ask me, that gold bean of yours was a complete waste.” Xin Fat Man grumbled about Zhang Ji Xin’s unexpected generosity, ”Tsk, a gold bean, man, think of how many chicken legs that could buy, how much beef jerky!”

Despite this, he deftly opened the Law book and cast several spells in a row, such as ’Fixed In The Middle’, ’Birdsong Whistle’, and ’Clearly Visible’, among others.

A locating spell, a communication spell, and one to explore and monitor the safety of the surroundings.

The magical fluctuations were fleeting, like a small pebble tossed into Lin Zhong Lake without stirring a single ripple. Xin Fat Man’s expression turned slightly serious, which with his glowing blue face and the eerie surroundings made for an especially ominous sight.

”My brother always says, when you’re out and about, you must learn to spend money to ward off disaster.” Zhang Ji Xin explained very seriously: ”Even if our fists are strong, we can’t avoid losing out due to the timing or the geographical advantage... So don’t be stingy at times like this.”

”A rich journey despite a poor home, I get it.” Xin Fat Man hugged the Law Book, copying Spells on the newly used blank pages while perfunctorily responding.

”No response from the Contact Spell?” Zhang Ji Xin retorted.

”As expected.” Xin Fat Man put away his Feather Pen, wiped the non-existent sweat from his forehead, and complained: ”These tasks were supposed to be the Doctor’s job... Wasting my cinnabar ink.”

In the midst of their talk, the two had followed the path to a three-way crossroads at the mountain’s foot.

There was a wooden sign at the crossroads.

Three wooden arrows pointed in different directions.

One arrow pointed back the way they came, labeled ’Kela Mountain · Engla’s Old Mansion’. The two immediately understood, the courtyard they had just left, must rightfully be what the arrow labeled as ’Engla’s Old Mansion’, and the big mountain behind them, undoubtedly, was Kela Mountain.

The second arrow pointed towards the distant forest, labeled ’Enchanting Forest · Zu Ge’.

The third arrow was the biggest, its inscription also the clearest, suggesting that someone must regularly maintain it. It was labeled ’Wusa City’, with a cat’s head doodled in white chalk behind it.

”What is Zu Ge?” Xin Fat Man, pointing at the word behind the second arrow, asked curiously.

Zhang Ji Xin, with a stern face and an annoyed tone, replied: ”Do you think I’m the Doctor?”

Xin Fat Man shrugged, not wanting to provoke his companion further, and instead pointed towards the third arrow: ”Let’s go this way.”

”Why?”

”Because there’s a cat’s head drawn on it.”

”...What kind of Immortal reasoning is that?”

”The mystery of Magic lies in its great potential and uncertainty. Potential implies that any event with a hidden connection may occur; uncertainty means that when we aren’t sure how things will unfold, we can just refer to the first point.”

”Whose theory is that? How come I’ve never heard of it?” Zhang Ji Xin looked puzzled: ”Although my studies are just so-so, I’ve still heard of those famous theories in the wizard world.”

”I just thought of it!” Xin Fat Man said with confiding pride, bending down to tie an Armor Horse Charm around his calf: ”Trust me, only someone like me who aims high and aspires to be a Big Wizard can have such a far-sighted, comprehensive viewpoint!”

Zhang Ji Xin naturally scoffed at such self-praise.

Yet at the same time, he had to admit that the cat’s head indeed triggered his intuition. Images of Zheng Qing’s tail and Jiang Yu’s ears unconsciously floated in his mind, and he silently agreed with Xin Fat Man’s choice.

Of course, what ultimately decided Zhang Ji Xin’s resolve was the gray and dusty figure lying beneath the third arrow on the sign.

Furry Bean faced towards Wusa City, sticking out its tongue, happily wagging its tail at the two young warlocks.

Zhang Ji Xin crouched down to tie the Armor Horse Charm around his legs.

”What do you think, why have we ended up here?” Having tied the Talisman paper, Zhang Ji Xin stood up and cast one last glance at the secluded path behind him and the silhouette of the tall Kela Mountain.

Xin Fat Man stretched his arms, yawning and making final preparations for a run.

”Who knows,” he replied lazily: ”Maybe it’s because this place is fated for us. Or it might just be a matter of probability.”
