High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 848: Chapter 196 Silhouette

Perhaps sensing the vampire’s gaze, the Yellow Flowered Cat on the shelf quivered its whiskers and stopped talking.

Then, hesitating for a few seconds, it raised its paw and waved at the eyes looking uniformly below the shelf, as if to greet them.

This action was so familiar that Zheng Qing jumped up on the spot.

”Brother Huang?” The young wizard on a scholarship cried out, startling the other young wizards around him.

Duke Milton, however, was not frightened by his cry, nor did he stop the slightly agitated behavior of the warlock; instead, he silently observed the scene with interest. As for the ’Walnut Mouse’ on the palanquin, it had been squinting from beginning to end, appearing as if it was too sleepy to care about prying into the interaction between a young wizard and a Yellow Flowered Cat.

On the shelf.

The Yellow Flowered Cat tugged at its ear and snorted, which counted as a response to Zheng Qing’s call. It then continued to lower its head, holding the small fish and nibbling away with relish.

”Damn! How come you are here?!” Zheng Qing felt as if ten thousand alpacas had run through his heart, while he subconsciously looked around: ”Did he come too? And is that store next door... is it his?”

He was naturally referring to Mr.Wu.

Since there were several strangers in the room—neither Duke Milton nor the dignitary from the Mouse Clan seemed to have any good relations with him—Zheng Qing was a bit crafty with his questions, asking them vaguely.

If that Yellow Flowered Cat truly was the one he knew, it would certainly understand his question.

The cat perched high did not answer the young wizard’s question.

It was still devoted to gnawing on the golden fish, as though nothing, not even the collapse of the sky, could distract it.

This, on the contrary, made the young wizard even more certain of his guess.

He was very familiar with that cat—in fact, more than half of his childhood fantasies involved that cat.

Don’t get it wrong, the reason it was related to that cat was because it often lurked in Mr.Wu’s bookstore. When Zheng Qing used to stay in the store to practice calligraphy as a child, he had seen the cat perform various human-like actions more than once.

Such as hooking the keys with its paw to open doors, standing on two legs under the sunlight piercing through the window to dance alone, or squatting on a thick dictionary, squinting and reading. Every so often, it would turn the pages with its paw, wet with cat saliva.

These magical behaviors greatly enriched the inner world of the little boy and filled him with fantasies about a world of immortal heroes, ghosts, and myths.

Only, as he grew up, he eventually received an acceptance letter from Wizard University and entered a world of wizards, not the world of immortal heroes he had longed for.

...

”Is it him?”

”You guess.”

”No, it can’t be him... if he were really on the island, he wouldn’t let me be so presumptuous.”

”Heh, you know you’re being presumptuous?”

”If he were really still on the island, the school wouldn’t be in such chaos... and there wouldn’t have been a need to send that notice to the council.” Duke Milton shook his head, then nodded, affirming his own thoughts.

”Tsh, young people.” The Walnut Old Mouse sneered from the palanquin but didn’t seem intent on arguing.

Xiao Xiao stood to the side, pricking up his ears, carefully noting down the back-and-forth between Duke Milton and the Rat Immortal, jotting down those seemingly nonsensical words. He felt he might have already guessed the unsaid implications between their conversations.

The other young wizards watching also wisely kept silent.

Only Zheng Qing seemed to have forgotten the terrifying vampire next to him and hurried over to the shelf beneath, looking up at the Yellow Flowered Cat. He wanted to say something but didn’t know where to start, unsure of what was appropriate to say here and now.

...

After the conversation between Duke Milton and the Rat Immortal paused for a brief moment,

it was not until he noticed a young, carefree student strode to the shelf beneath that

the rotating Clan Leader of the Karen Family finally raised an eyebrow, seeming to feel his authority was being challenged.

Then he lifted an arm, extending a finger.

A pinpoint of red light suddenly brightened at his fingertip, followed by a fine flame that shot towards the young wizard’s back. Unlike the previous red flames sweeping through doors and windows, this flame had a tinge of dark blue at its core—the kind that, at a glance, conveyed an unstoppable, or rather destructive, aura.

Elena was the quickest to react. The remaining Tarot Cards that had been circling her shot ahead of the fine flame like arrows released from a bow, layered atop each other in an attempt to block it.

But her effort was like a mantis trying to stop a chariot; the fine flame pierced through the fifty or sixty Tarot Cards, which turned to ash in mid-air.

Jiang Yu, following closely behind, also threw out another Jade Pendant, but it too was easily penetrated by the fine flame, breaking into pieces that clattered to the floor.

Xiao Xiao, having been focused on the conversation between the vampire and the Rat Immortal, reacted a bit too late. By the time he took out a Turtle Shell from his bosom and tossed it into the air, it merely grazed the tail of the fine flame and had no effect whatsoever.

Zhang Ji Xin and Xin Fat Man, helpless in the situation, one with eyes turning red and the other’s body turning blue, were obviously prepared to fight to the death with the vampire.

As for the young wizards from the Atonement Hunting Team further away, they were caught off-guard by Duke Milton’s abrupt action and watched as the fine flame rushed towards Zheng Qing, their own and the witches’ efforts proving futile.

Apart from Zheng Qing, who had his back to the vampire, all the young wizards in the room fell into despair for a moment.

”Meow!”

A sharp meow broke through the despair.

Followed by half of a leftover dried fish.

The fish whizzed by, swishing past Zheng Qing’s ear like lightning, and slammed heavily onto the red flame. The once ferocious and seemingly indomitable flame was extinguished as if it were a firework thrown into a lake, flickering a few times before vanishing without a trace.

Leaving only a wisp of pale blue smoke, which curled up into the air.

Only then did Zheng Qing come to his senses and turn to look behind him.

Besides the relieved expressions of his friends, he also saw the vampire looking as if he had just seen a ghost.

”Bang!”

At that moment, the door, which had been tightly shut, burst open. The red sparks that lingered among the doors and windows fled like mice that had seen a cat, vanishing through the door cracks, window gaps, and flooring seams without a trace.

A tall figure stood at the doorway, backlit by the sun and blue sky, facing a room filled with cats, mice, a vampire, and a group of disheveled young wizards.

”Enough!”
