High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 844: Chapter 192: Cat and Mice

”Jiang Yu... Miss Jiang, right?”

The wizard who entered the store nodded politely—perhaps feeling it abrupt to mention the witch’s name directly, he changed the way he addressed her—then said with a smile, ”Last year at the Jiang family’s Autumn Hunting in the Cloud Dreams, I remember you standing next to your grandmother... I must admit, your family’s hunting team left a very deep impression on me. Especially that big demon that was hunted at the end, it’s rare even in the ’Super Hunting Grounds’.”

”Ah, this must be the little princess of the Li family, right. I’ve heard about it, heard about it, you have an unusually high sensitivity to certain magics... There was a time when the fools at the Moon Council even proposed forcing a deal with your family... a very wrong, very incorrect idea, so we suppressed it. I suppose this is why you were ultimately sent to First University.”

”Um, the beautiful lady with the wine-red hair over there must be from The Gypsy Witch Coven, right, a very familiar, very familiar aura. Over a hundred years ago, I had a good friend from The Gypsy Witch Coven.”

The unfamiliar guest spoke in a tone of reminiscence about his friend from over a hundred years ago, which couldn’t help but engender goodwill. Only, it seemed that he only had eyes for the female witches in the store, subconsciously ignoring the male witches.

This made the young scholarship student feel as uncomfortable as if he had swallowed a fly.

Just as he was about to open his mouth to greet this stranger, the Gypsy witch who had been standing aside suddenly spoke.

”You’re talking about Aunt Angelina,” Elena’s voice was very calm, ”If she hadn’t gone with you to that damned Under the Moon Ball and bled to death as a result, your sweet talk might have had a little bit of persuasive power.”

The message carried by her words was slightly overwhelming, making the young scholarship student shudder, unable to continue with the words he had prepared.

”After all, we’re all adults here, and everyone should be accountable for their actions, right?” the stranger replied with a smiling face to Elena, but for some reason, he glanced at the young scholarship student.

Those pale blue eyes were cold and spine-chilling, Zheng Qing felt as if he were being targeted by a fearsome monster—for a moment, he felt as if he were back on that flight to the academy, facing the rampaging Fallen Wizard.

His eyes weren’t red, he definitely wasn’t a Fallen Wizard, the young scholarship student reassured himself nervously, trying to push away the terrible thoughts in his mind and, somewhat jokingly, thought that compared to the warlock across from him, he seemed more like a demon—at least his eyes were still red.

Perhaps sensing the unease of the male witch beside her, Jiang Yu subtly moved a small step forward.

”Is there anything we can help you with?” the witch tried to ask in a lighter tone. Only Zheng Qing saw her fingers, clasped white behind her back. This made the male witch feel both ashamed and annoyed at himself.

”I am the store manager here, can I help you with anything?” he repeated Jiang Yu’s question, and unobtrusively took a step forward, positioning himself in front of the witch.

The stranger raised an eyebrow, his lips showing a smile that was either mocking or approving.

”You’re a bit better than I thought, at least not trembling behind a girl.” The guest commented in an extremely impolite tone.

The anger brewing in Zheng Qing’s heart hadn’t fully formed when it was extinguished by the guest’s self-introduction.

”Milton Karen, Upper House Member of the Moon Council, rotation Clan Leader of the Karen family... and, of course, a bunch of other titles that aren’t very interesting, which I believe you’re not interested in either.” The guest tucked his walking stick under his arm, raised his arm, and introduced himself with perfect etiquette, ”Pleased to meet you... Student Zheng Qing.”

Milton Karen!

No wonder he looked somewhat familiar!

As the Clan Leader of the Karen Family and an Upper House Member of the Moon Council, this Duke of Karen often appeared in various media and magazines, especially those newspapers sponsored by the Karen family, which had been publishing various images of His Grace for years on end—such as Duke Milton inspecting the Bordeaux Vineyard, Duke Milton speaking passionately in the Upper House, Duke Milton’s gallant demon hunting postures, and so on.

However, there is always some difference between reality and image.

Without having met the man face to face, and merely by relying on a few photographs or video clips, it was indeed difficult for an inexperienced young warlock to determine a person’s true identity in a very short time.

The publicly funded student was so shocked that he did not react at all to the hand extended by His Grace, the Duke.

”Do you know why I’m looking for you?” Milton Karen did not mind the public-cost student’s momentary distraction, casually withdrew his hand, took off the dragon-skin gloves, and held them in his palm as he asked carelessly.

A bitter expression suddenly appeared on Zheng Qing’s face—unlike his clueless friends, the young public-cost student guessed Milton’s purpose in the blink of an eye.

The news about the current Clan Leader of the Karen Family dueling with other suitors in pursuit of Su Shijun would occasionally hit the headlines. Especially in recent times, his duel with William Tapott, the renowned Werewolf Clan prince, had caused such an uproar that even First University hosted a special symposium to discuss the outcome of their duel and its impact on the internal seats of the Moon Council.

If the ”Beta Town Post” had not released that sensational news, the largest topic in the Wizard World would probably have been the war between werewolves and vampires now.

Zheng Qing felt that, besides Su Shijun, he could find no other reason for His Grace, the Duke of the Karen Family, to take time out of his busy schedule to stroll into his small shop.

The young wizard’s silence was taken as an acknowledgment by Milton.

This made him even more angry. The rage that he could have easily restrained seemed to explode like a balloon being pricked with a needle, all at once.

”Snap!”

His Grace, the Duke, raised his hand and snapped his fingers. Without uttering any spells, several slender red flames emerged out of thin air, darted toward Zheng Qing like snakes catching prey. With just a wrap and twist, they lifted him off the ground, suspending him in mid-air. At the same time, the previously ajar shop door slammed shut with a ’bang’, and the louvred shutters on both sides rapidly fell down.

The once bright shop was suddenly engulfed in darkness.

The mice in their cages and the scampering cats, as though sensing a great threat, all turned their backs against the wall, baring their teeth and starting to tremble.

”Ahh!” Li Meng screamed, collapsing to the ground with her kitten in her arms.
