High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 804: Chapter 152: Scope of the Curse Course Exam

”Besides the two basic spells mentioned earlier, during these few months of study, we also systematically practiced many spells of a similar nature through extracurricular extensions,”

”For example, ’Flowing Fire in July,’ ’Frost in September,’ ’Peach and Tender, Bright is its Flower,’ ’Water to Solve Your Worries,’ ’Birds Singing Sweetly, Seeking Their Friends’ Voices,’ including those you learned in life skills class like ’Thin Dirt My Privacy, Thin Wash My Clothes,’ and so forth. These additional spells, belonging to the advanced segment, will not appear extensively in the final exams... but they will definitely be there. They are the questions that pull up scores.”

”This means, if you can master these spells that go beyond the syllabus, you would undoubtedly be able to create a gap in scores compared to your peers. Those of you who are ambitious should pay attention to this point.”

On the podium, Old Yao continued to lead everyone through the content previously learned, while holding a teacup and sniffing the steaming vapor rising from the cup, using this method to suppress the urge to smoke.

Many students who originally did not intend to take notes had to pick up their feather pens and start jotting down the key points after the professor reviewed the material beyond the syllabus—the information outside the syllabus was too extensive and it was utterly impossible to cover everything during revision. Thus, they could only review specifically what the professor highlighted at the moment.

After finishing with the material beyond the syllabus, the professor paused for a short while, allowing the students below to finish their notes. Once they looked up again, he continued, ”Aside from spells, another most important learning content in the first-year Curse Course is the Law book.”

”The development history of the Law book, the international standard of the Law book by the Mage Alliance, the working principles of the Law book, and how to utilize the Law book, etc. These issues, though seemingly common and very simple, are also part of the key areas in the final exams for the Curse Course. According to past requirements, questions about the Law book might account for about thirty percent of the total marks.”

Upon hearing this, a faint but noisy murmur of complaints rose from below—many might not genuinely be complaining that this part of the exam content was outdated; everyone was just habitually reacting negatively to the professor’s demands, using this as a bargaining chip in the hope that the difficulty of the exam might be reduced slightly.

This tactic might not work, but what if it did?

On the podium, the experienced professor showed no reaction to the lamentations below, still going through the points at his own pace, unhurriedly and steadfastly:

”...For the Curse Course, though spells are critical, they are not the most important—the carriers that permit the casting of spells, the Law books, are the more crucial element.”

”As I mentioned in previous classes, ’The Law book carries the projection of spells in this world, while spells are merely the primer that triggers this projection.’

”Compared to the spells you are learning, Law books are actually closer to the essence of the magic we use.”

”This is also the third key point that the final exams will definitely test—your understanding of the Law book. Do you remember the survey report I asked you to complete in pairs? Those who seriously worked on the report, congratulations, you should be able to easily secure the thirty percent of the marks pertaining to the Law book in this final exam.”

”Those who fooled me back then, this final exam, the test paper will also fool you with a casual score.”

Zheng Qing grasped the feather pen, using the feather sticking out at the end of the pen to scratch his chin unconsciously while slightly turning his head to glance at Jiang Yu sitting in the front row of the classroom. His report back then was completed together with Jiang Yu, amounting to nearly ten thousand words.

At the moment, the witch was sitting upright in her seat, her back straight and her demeanor focused, seemingly completely unaware of the gaze from the back of the classroom.

This serious demeanor reminded the young public-funded student of that warm afternoon, thinking of that quiet café, the sugar figures wrestling on the plate, and the witch’s red and black plaid pajamas— even now, he couldn’t understand what exactly was trendy about the combination the witch mentioned back then. Of course, he had never fully accepted such concepts that tested one’s ability to appreciate abstract ideas.

It was like when he used to see those post-modern, abstract paintings in art books or model outfits from spring and autumn fashion shows on magazines and television. Whether it was their oddly structured styles or strangely paired color blocks, he couldn’t understand them.

In Zheng Qing’s view, those works appeared to be the results of artists striving to surpass boundaries, delving into madness.

”Professor!” A somewhat abrupt voice suddenly rose from the front row, startling the distracted young public-funded student.

Zheng Qing came back to his senses and saw the raised hand belonged to Duan Xiao Jian.

With Old Yao’s permission, the thin, slightly hunched young wizard stood up, looking a bit uneasy, and asked, ”Professor, will the final exam cover the few spells from Moon Hunting?”

This question piqued the interest of many.

During Moon Hunting, to match the atmosphere within the school at the time, teachers blended a lot of content related to demon hunting into their lessons.

For instance, Mister Sima in history class skipped over several decades and directly relayed many details from the ’Second Witch Demon War’ at the end of the 1930s—a topic that under normal circumstances, should have been covered in the early part of the second semester of freshman year.

Similarly, Professor Yi in divination class also abandoned the content from ”Basic Yi Learning: First Year of University” and taught the students how to use materials found in the wild such as dead branches, fallen leaves, yellow sand, and leftover bones for divination.

Correspondingly, Professor Yao was no exception.

During those curse classes, he not only taught the students the ’Wolf Struggling Its Whiskers, Carry on Its Tail’ Chaos Spell, but he also categorized and listed dozens of spells commonly used in hunting grounds according to ’Control,’ ’Attack,’ ’Disturb,’ ’Escape,’ and other scenarios and asked the students to take notes.

Undoubtedly, these contents definitely did not fall within the scope of the curriculum. But if the professor insisted on including them in the assessment scope, it seemed there was not much room for objection—after all, these were taught in class, and the professor had also asked everyone to take thorough notes.

But like the ’beyond the syllabus’ spells mentioned before, nobody would seriously memorize the various subtle differences between these spells, the standard scenarios for using these spells, or the consequences of incorrect use and so on.

Most of them only learned enough to be able to copy them into a Law book and cast them.

That was all.

”There will be an exam,” in response to Duan Xiao Jian’s question, Old Yao did not play coy but answered very seriously, ”However, the exam scope will be limited to the ’Chaos Spell,’ which you will encounter later in your studies, hence it is included in the test paper. The other spells are too complicated, remembering too much of them isn’t beneficial for you right now.”
