High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 813: Chapter 161 Cat Trade

”Mind your own business... why don’t you talk to them yourself?!”

”You’re asking a 1,500-year-old to be your messenger, and you even command me without saying ’please.’ Have you considered the dignity of the nobility under the moon? Are we no longer going to uphold the traditional virtues of respecting and loving the elderly?”

”Well, that being said... If I relay the message for you, can I take your place?”

”According to you, you don’t have time later and can’t go to the Greenhill Mansion... Since I’m helping out, I might as well take care of things there for a bit.”

”If we happen to run into Su Daxu, do you want me to get her autograph for you? If so, where do you plan on having her sign... Do you have a clean shirt or a new Law book? A new notebook would do as well.”

”Hey, I’m offering to help you out here, can you at least give me a response?”

”We’re from the same dorm, the same hunting team; we know each other’s backgrounds. You’re not afraid I’ll swindle you, are you? By the way, if I go in your place, do I need a guarantor? You’ll vouch for me, right... It’s mutually beneficial, isn’t it.”

”If you don’t say anything, I’ll take that as your approval...”

Dylan, standing in front of a dressing mirror, was carefully polishing his sharp canine teeth with an ivory-handled brush, incessantly complaining to Zheng Qing— after being suddenly given a task by the younger student on public funding, he felt he had every right to complain.

But no matter how animatedly he spoke, spitting while he spoke, there was no response from behind the curtains covering Zheng Qing’s six-pillar bed. If it weren’t for the fact that he could feel the robust life force of the cost student through the curtains, Dylan would have already succumbed to his curiosity and lifted the curtains to see what was happening.

But even after he cleaned both canines and polished them until they were nice and shiny, there was still no movement behind the curtains.

This made him somewhat uneasy.

After he switched his Obsidian cufflinks for a pair of Ruby ones for the third time, the reserved noble of the night finally couldn’t help it and cautiously approached Zheng Qing’s curtains.

”Hello?”

”Zheng Qing? Are you still there?”

”Student of Jiuyou Academy on public funding...”

With each new address, he drew a step closer to the curtains, and after several steps, the red curtains were within reach.

A few Sprites, fluttering their wings and with their arms crossed, blocked his way, determined not to let him pass.

”Excuse me, let me through, I just want to see if your master has suffocated under a pillow.” Dylan bowed slightly to the Sprites, speaking in a gentle and friendly tone.

Whether they understood what he said or not, the Sprites kept responding with ’Hehe’ but showed no sign of moving aside; instead, they inched even closer, nearly brushing Dylan’s eyelashes.

Just as Dylan was considering whether to apply a bit of magic power to deal with these little nuisances, a muffled voice finally came out from behind the curtains:

”As long as you deliver the message, it’s fine if you want to follow them and work as a laborer.”

”Provided that Li Meng doesn’t mind adding you to the temporary worker list.”

”As for the autograph you mentioned, well, if it’s not inconvenient, you can get one for me... There’s an unopened Law book in the desk drawer; it’s a Thanksgiving gift from the student council to the students on public funding. It should suffice for an autograph.”

Hearing Zheng Qing’s still well-organized arrangements, Dylan couldn’t help but frown.

Compared to before, which was when he entered the dormitory, the voice of the young cost student sounded somewhat hoarse, as if he had gone a whole night without water and then forced himself to speak. It gave off an exceptionally strenuous feeling.

”Are you okay,” Dylan poked his head out and asked with concern, ”Didn’t you just say Dean Yao had arranged something for you to do? Do you need any help?”

”No, thanks!” The voice inside the tent rudely interrupted the Blood Werewolf’s kind offer.

Seemingly realizing his own impoliteness, the young cost student quickly made amends by explaining, ”...If you plan to participate in the work at Greenhill Mansion later, it’s better to go now and wait outside the teaching building for Li Meng to finish class. That way, there’s room for discussion on both ends. Hmm, there’s less than half an hour left before class ends; if you run fast, you can still make it.”

”Besides, if I were you, before negotiating with Li Meng, I would definitely start by giving her a little something first... like a slice of Black Forest cake, or a small bag of crispy cream puffs wouldn’t be bad.”

”Don’t buy sweets in the school cafeteria, the workmanship is too rough, and the taste too strong. I recommend you go to Meow Meow Dessert Shop on the Pedestrian Street, right next to Double Tang Note. It’s a new shop, very popular, and Li Meng has mentioned it several times.”

”Also, when giving the gift, make sure to do it behind Jiang Yu’s back. She doesn’t like Li Meng eating too many sweets and has been very strict lately...”

Before the ramblings from inside the tent were over, Dylan had already run out like the wind.

Not even thirty seconds after he dashed out, the dormitory door was ’thud’ burst open again.

Mister Blood Werewolf looked apologetically at the startled Sprites, quickly explained, ”I was in a hurry, almost forgot our big public student’s notebook...”

As he spoke, he sprang over to the desk, yanked open Zheng Qing’s drawer, and rummaged out an unopened, swollen soft leather Law book.

”Tsk, the student council is always so stingy.” Dylan shook his head, then turned back and smiled at the Sprites surrounding Zheng Qing’s tent before running out like the wind again.

In the entire dormitory, throughout this farce, perhaps the only one that remained unreactive from start to finish was the well-fed Fatty Cat Tuan Tuan, who was dozing off on Xin Fat Man’s pillow — it merely flicked its ears when Dylan barged into the room again, without even opening its eyes.

But its ’calmness’ ended less than five minutes after Dylan left the dormitory.

Because a Black Cat silently slipped out of the gap in Zheng Qing’s tent, then leisurely walked up to Fatty Cat Tuan Tuan with measured steps.

The closeness of another of its kind finally made the Fatty Cat unable to bear it, and it opened one eye grudgingly.

What do you want?!

Tuan Tuan interrogated the Black Cat with its gaze, its tail flicking subconsciously.

”Ahem, I know you understand me,” the Black Cat sat in front of Tuan Tuan, putting on a fake cough, ”Tonight, after they come back, if the dormitory atmosphere is good, fly me a red Paper Crane; if the atmosphere is bad, send me a white Paper Crane... Nah, the Paper Cranes are already folded in my drawer.”

The Fatty Cat noncommittally closed its eyes again.

”Five chicken legs, two as a deposit.” The Black Cat immediately raised its paw.

On the pillow, a paw shot out lightning-fast from the furball curled up and slapped onto Zheng Qing’s paw.

Deal!
