High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 820: Chapter 168 Chen Shi

Chen Shi, also known as Shi Shi, refers to the period from 7 am to 9 am in the morning.

Originally, this ’Shi Shi’ was the time for breakfast. However, for the warlock of dormitory 403, or rather, the members of the Absolution Hunting Team, even though it was ’Shi Shi’, they had no time for eating.

Starting from rising early at Mao Chu, these young wizards had been so busy they hardly touched the ground, spinning around like frantic tops, shuttling back and forth between the campus and the Pedestrian Street—but in fact, even Zheng Qing, who was busy going back and forth between the shop and the dormitory numerous times, did not know exactly what everyone was busy with.

For instance, on the first trip, after bustling about in the store for a long time, they realized they hadn’t brought the cloth. Although everyone was a wizard and had brought their Wizard’s Codex, compared to muttering a spell for half a day to summon a helix maid to help wipe a speck of dust off the table, a cloth obviously was quicker and more convenient.

So, Zheng Qing tied an Armor Horse Charm to his leg and ran back to the dormitory like the wind, bringing back a heap of buckets, cloths, brooms, and dustpans—even though these items could be bought on the street, since it was still early and even the Green Grocery Store had not opened yet, they could only manage with what was available in the dormitory for the time being.

Not long after returning with the cloths and other items, the young cost student found himself needing to make another trip.

This time, the cause was a nest of imposing human-faced spiders that he saw behind the sign hanging over the store’s entrance.

Those vividly colored eight-legged insects had made the D&K sign a robust perch, spinning a large web between the sign and the wall. Since it hadn’t been long, the web hadn’t caught any prey yet; only a few fragments of dry leaves hung on it.

If it were a century-old shop, perhaps the web could have been flaunted by the shop as a historical symbol.

But Zheng Qing and his team were opening a new store.

”Tell me, in this dead of winter with not a single fly or mosquito, why are they spinning such a big web? To catch a northwest breeze?” the young cost student looked up at the shaky giant web behind the sign, feeling somewhat speechless.

”No matter what they are trying to do, our goal now is to get them down from there!” Xiao Xiao waved his notebook, looking somewhat agitated, ”All morning it’s been these messy matters! I haven’t even had breakfast yet, who cares what those spiders are eating?!”

”Didn’t Fat Cat buy leek dumplings and soy milk?” said Mister Blood Werewolf, who was brushing the mice in their cage without even lifting his head, ”They don’t look much, but they seem to smell quite nice...”

”If it’s nice, you eat!” Xiao Xiao kept a straight face, but his tone finally calmed down a lot, ”We still have to entertain guests later, eat a stomach of leeks, and open your mouth to scare away the guests.”

”Stop the nonsense... Think of a way to get rid of them quickly!” Zheng Qing grabbed his hair, his face showing a frightening expression, ”What do you think about just setting fire to them... after all, there’s no one around right now.”

”Though spiders are not within the second-degree murder protection scope as specified by the Witch’s Code, as a highly spirited insect, many wizards view them as a sign,” Doctor Xiao, fully utilizing his role as the consultant of the hunting team, was the first to object to the cost student’s plan, ”Hence, I suggest expulsion is the better approach.”

”Also, what if that fire accidentally burns the sign?” Xin Fat Man, who had just hurried back from outside, rubbed his hands, shaking off the chill and stamping his feet, ”Wouldn’t it be like losing watermelon while picking sesame seeds?”

Zheng Qing silently turned his head to look at Fat Cat.

”Don’t look at me like that! I’ve brought everything!” Feeling the cost student’s gaze, Fat Cat couldn’t help shivering and, with a quick flip of his wristwatch, pulled out a few pieces of frames from it, ”...I ran around, and the shops on the street were still closed. Finally, I remembered there seemed to be some spare ones in the campus newspaper editing room...”

These few frames were what Zheng Qing used to display certificates—including certificates from the new competition of the Absolution Hunting Team, the establishment of the Absolution Knight Group, as well as the shop’s business license, epidemic prevention, and other materials.

Originally, he thought these items could just be stuffed in a drawer.

But that morning, while discussing with his companions, he suddenly remembered a scene he had witnessed at the Shangyuan Bookstore.

The first time he visited the bookstore, as soon as he entered, he saw a multitude of qualifications on display, which were so dazzling that they made his head spin. Regardless of whether he knew the reputation of the organizations cooperating with Shangyuan Bookstore, they all gave off an impressively obscure aura.

Zheng Qing felt that this scheme was worth imitating, so he hastily arranged for Xin Fat Man to find frames for the certificates.

”Do you have medicine?” Zheng Qing took those few frames, casually placed them on the table behind him, and continued to stare at the Fat Man.

”Are you sick?” Fat Man asked, looking puzzled.

Zheng Qing clenched his teeth.

”Medicine for bugs!” he raised his hand, pointing at the spider nest behind the sign, and said through clenched teeth.

Fat Man suddenly realized.

”No,” his head shook like a tambourine, but at the same time, he offered his own suggestion, ”Why not let the sprites deal with it? Putting those most capable little creatures in the dorm to laze around with that cat is simply the dumbest idea.”

Zheng Qing immediately came to his senses.

Sprites are creatures created by alchemists specifically to assist wizards with daily chores.

To say nothing of pest control, the sprites could completely handle chores like laundry, cooking, and cleaning, as long as they were properly trained.

Thus, the young sponsored student had just arrived at the store from the dormitory, and before even five minutes had passed, he found himself running back and forth again, sweating profusely. This time, he decided to bring everything alive in the dormitory, including the sprites and Fatty Cat, to avoid further trouble.

All morning, from just after six until nine, the members of the Absolution Hunting Team, all young wizards, were busy setting up essential structures outside the shop. They erected pull-up banners, large flower baskets, banners, and set up foolish-looking stuffed animals for reception.

Everything was ready; it seemingly only lacked visitors.

Since he had sent out a pile of invitations earlier, Zheng Qing had no idea who would show up.

But for all his guessing, the first visitors to the store were neither the friendly classmates from Astronomy Class 08-1, nor the new friends they had made at the campus hunting party, nor the veterans who trained the Absolution Hunting Team, and certainly not the few teaching assistants or even professors he had hoped for.

Instead, it was a group of mice.

A group of mice wearing green vests.

The first to spot this uninvited group was not Zheng Qing or Xiao Xiao at the door, but Fatty Cat, who was lazily hiding in the depths of the shop, lying on the counter.
