High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 835: Chapter 183: Special Guests

Iseni, though dragged by Zheng Qing to the storage room behind the small shop, left a lingering fishy stench inside the shop that Xiao Xiao had to waste several Fresh Charms to finally dispel the odor.

As for the faint smell still present outside the shop, he was powerless. After all, each talisman was as precious as gold, and the young wizard who had begun learning business had to carefully weigh the cost against the benefits.

Of course, another reason he wasn’t concerned about the lingering odor outside the shop was the shop’s new ’guests’.

The reason Xiao Xiao paid so much attention to these new guests wasn’t because they were generous or noble. On the contrary, in Doctor Xiao’s eyes, each of them was major trouble, and he felt a strong urge to throw them out.

Of course, such rude behavior was something the warlock could only think about internally, as he couldn’t possibly or dare to simply throw any of these guests out of the shop.

Yes, each and every one.

The new guests were not wizards but a noisy group of Green Skin Parrots, along with a few mynas, ravens, skylarks, and even doves.

These birds were nothing short of troublemakers.

Apart from the parrots and mynas shrilly squawking like crows, even the seemingly polite and quiet skylarks and mynas were like sparrows, constantly chirping non-stop as soon as they entered the shop, giving Doctor Xiao a headache.

”We really don’t sell bird feed... If you don’t believe it, you can look around our shelves, they’re all filled with mice cages, as well as some talismans and potions,” Xiao Xiao explained patiently to the parrot in front of him for what felt like the hundredth time.

But the birds wouldn’t listen, to the point that the warlock was tempted to pluck all the fine feathers around their ear holes and shout at them, just to get these pea-brained creatures to listen to him.

The Green Skin Parrot lifted a claw, holding a card with red and black patterns, cocked its head, and stared at the young wizard with its black bean-sized eyes, its voice somewhat shrill:

”Take a look at this card, did you send it? Does it say ’guaranteed to satisfy customers’ on it?”

”It is ours, and it does say that,” Xiao Xiao nodded reluctantly, while trying to explain, ”But...”

He never got the chance to finish his sentence.

After he admitted to the Green Skin Parrot’s claim, the flock of birds started squawking around him as if in an uproar.

”Do we count as your customers?”

”You can’t discriminate against us just because we are birds! That’s speciesism! Danghag will have you prosecuted for this!”

”Coo coo coo!”

”Chirp chirp chirp chirp!”

”No buts! A wizard must keep his word!”

”If you don’t satisfy us, I’ll poop in your shop!”

The different types of birds, each with their own distinct feathers, all clattered loudly together, especially the last threatening sentence, which turned Doctor Xiao’s face green.

”Please, let’s not panic! Let’s talk this out nicely, shall we?” The short warlock jumped up from behind the counter, waving his arms energetically, and shrieked, ”I’ll go to Green’s grocery store and get you what you want, alright? Don’t rush! Sit down, take a break, have some tea... Jiang Da Headmaster? Jiang Da Headmaster? Come and help out!”

Just having calmed a few customers and returned to the store, Jiang Yu saw the chaotic scene and couldn’t help but sigh deeply as she held her forehead.

This was not running a store; it was complete mayhem.

While she thought this, she couldn’t just watch a bunch of unruly birds truly turn the place into a smoky mess.

The witch scanned the birds scattered atop the shelves, and her gaze finally settled on a white pigeon, after which a relieved, easy smile appeared on her face.

”Meng Meng? Meng Meng!” She leaned out of the store, waving her hand, and called, ”Come and help out.”

A moment later, the little witch ran back inside pinching her nose—she had intended to cast a Bubble Head Charm on herself, but due to insufficient skills, she hadn’t succeeded and had resorted to the oldest and simplest method, pinching her nose.

”What’s up? Umm, whatever it is, cast a Bubble Head Charm on me first! That Fishman stinks to death; how can you stand it, Cousin?” With her nose pinched, the little witch’s voice sounded muffled, ”Hurry up, I have to go out again... Next door at Crystal Granny’s store, there are lots of pretty glass balls; it smells much better than this stinky shop... Huh? Xiao Bai? What are you doing here too?”

As she had been speaking, a white pigeon, which had been perched at the top of a shelf, suddenly fluttered down and landed right on the little witch’s shoulder, cooing incessantly.

Overcome with surprise, the little witch even dropped her hand from her nose, not caring she might breathe in the stink, and lifted her arm to transfer the white pigeon from her shoulder to her palm.

This pigeon was her pet, named Xiao Bai—Li Meng remembered that Xiao Bai was supposed to be napping in the birdhouse at Pet Garden today, so how could it have flown so far and even left the school?

”Coo coo coo coo...” Xiao Bai affectionately rubbed the little witch’s cheek, its throat emitting a string of uneven cooing sounds.

”Pigeons can talk?” Xiao Xiao, who had been standing behind the counter, sat back down—he had already realized Jiang Yu’s intentions and seemed much more relaxed—warlock smacking his lips, his tone slightly regretful, ”I was just thinking whether that pigeon was your Xiao Bai, but I wasn’t sure... after all, they all look similar.”

The little witch glared at Xiao Xiao, full of disdain, and ignored him.

Jiang Yu raised her arm and scratched the white pigeon Xiao Bai’s head, then turned to Li Meng and said, ”Ask Xiao Bai to discuss it with its friends, not to disturb other’s business anymore. Later, I’ll have the manager invite them for a meal... Also, we just used a few Fresh charms, so there’s no more stink, stop pinching your nose.”

Having said that, the witch bent her finger and gently scraped Li Meng’s bright red nose tip.

The little witch staggered around like she was drunk, a proud expression on her face, ”Such a small matter, leave it to me! Xiao Bai? Xiao Bai, did you hear that? Tell them to stop the ruckus... I’ll get you something tasty later!”

Xiao Bai hesitated, turned its head to look at its companions, and cooed twice.

”Sigh.” The leader, a green-skinned parrot, let out a heavy sigh, ”It’s not like I don’t understand what you’re saying. Is it really that amusing for you to bluntly discuss these matters in front of me?... However, for the sake of Miss Xiao Bai, we reluctantly agree to this proposal.”

”Um, this is called Consumer Bird Rights Protection, completely legitimate and lawful!” chimed in a Myna from the side.
