High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 806: Chapter 154 Li Meng’s Outsourcing Task

Li Meng had never been an easy person to talk to.

This realization deeply struck Zheng Qing from the first day he encountered her on the school’s charter flight.

So, when the Little Witch simply took a few deep breaths and gave up on taking the young scholarship student to task for his recent rudeness, Zheng Qing suddenly felt an invisible pressure bearing down on him.

Similarly, Doctor Xiao was no fool either.

”I also need to take care of some renovations and subsequent restocking for the D&K store, and since it’s opening on Saturday, I’ll definitely need to run through the procedures on Friday night to prevent any issues... I guess I’ll be busy as soon as Practice class ends,” Xiao Xiao said, his hands pressing on his notebook, carefully watching the Little Witch as his voice grew lighter and lighter.

”Hmm, as long as you have time!” Li Meng seemed to pay no attention to Xiao Xiao as he spoke, deliberately ignoring the stiff smile on his face, instead beaming at the other male Warlocks, ”I need a favor from you guys... Let me be clear, according to the rules, before doing the work, you need to sign a simple Silence Contract. No problem, right?”

Although she phrased it as a question, the fact that she skillfully pulled out the already prepared contract and the Feather Pen for signing showed that the male Warlocks had no choice whether to sign or not.

The green Feather Pen and the Parchment contract circulated briefly through the hands of Xin Fat Man and Zhang Ji Xin; in less than ten seconds, they arrived in the hands of the young scholarship student.

With a stoic face, Zheng Qing glanced over the terms on the contract.

The terms were very simple, consisting of only three lines. The gist was that unless authorized by Party Alpha (employer), Party Yi (employee) must not discuss any information related to the employment outside of work, with a silence period of one month; strictly forbidden to divulge their work content to other organizations or individuals outside of work, silence period of one month; and not allowed to reveal the employer’s identity by any means, silence period three years.

Overall, except for the third term, the conditions of the contract weren’t too exaggerated. Even the three-year silence period stipulated in the third term strictly followed the lowest density clause with the maximum limit period in the Wizard’s Code.

Perhaps noticing that Zheng Qing’s gaze lingered a bit too long on the third term, Li Meng stamped her foot, unable to help but nag once more.

”We’re all friends here, would I cheat you guys?” She looked displeased at Zheng Qing and emphasized, ”It’s because I have a good relationship with you that I think of you when good things come up. It definitely won’t waste much of your time... After I explain the specifics later, you’ll surely be thanking me to death!”

”The contract is definitely fine, I’ve checked it,” said Zhang Ji Xin, chiming in. As a young man from a Wizard Family, he possessed such discernment.

Xiao Xiao reached out, took the Parchment from Zheng Qing’s hands, scanned the terms and tugged at the corner of his mouth, ”This is a simple Silence Contract copied verbatim from the contract establishment section of the Wizard’s Code—no wonder there are no issues... Even the format hasn’t changed. For example, the blank space at the end of the third line, ’The Code’ has that space because there’s supposed to be a line break, you didn’t need a line break here, but you still left that space...”

This critique seemed to touch a nerve in the Little Witch.

”Sign it or not, it’s your choice! Why all the fuss?!” she screamed, grabbing for the upper edge of the Parchment, attempting to snatch it back from Doctor Xiao’s hands.

However, Xiao Xiao quickly withdrew his hand, leaving the Little Witch clutching at air.

”Sign it? Why wouldn’t I.” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, twirled the green Feather Pen between his fingers, and his words carried a hint of amusement, ”A one-month silence period, and besides, the things you can access in school boil down to a few matters... Work related to holiday celebrations like Christmas, New Year’s, or tasks connected to the Winter Hunt.”

”Such things are quite common. The student council often hands over some tasks they can’t complete on schedule to capable ’external system’ students—on the one hand to reduce costs, on the other hand to make it easy to pass the blame. Commonly called outsourcing.”

While speaking, Doctor Xiao had already left a series of clear red signatures on the contract.

He then handed the parchment to Zheng Qing.

”Could it be possible that this one-month matter is about the final exams?” Seeing that his friends had all signed, Zheng Qing finally stopped dawdling, grabbed the feather pen, mumbling as he signed his name.

Li Meng took the parchment, looking at the four fresh red signatures, blew a breath, and her eyes squinted into a smile.

”The school will not outsource matters related to exams to students, especially the end-of-term exams that occur once every semester.” Xiao Xiao sighed, explaining from the side, ”Allowing students to access the papers poses too high a risk of losing control... if really no one is available, the school would turn to the researchers at the research institute.”

Zheng Qing nodded absentmindedly, not really paying attention to Xiao Xiao’s explanation.

His gaze followed Li Meng’s small movements closely.

After securing the contract, Li Meng took out several boundary spells from her pocket and seriously hung them on the edges of the desks surrounding everyone. This surprised the young cost student greatly—as he remembered, the Little Witch was always rather scatterbrained and not exactly reliable.

And now, she actually remembered to set up a barrier before officially assigning the task.

This meant that she was planning something very important.

The pale yellow talisman papers hung at the edges of desks, slowly emitting wisp of blue smoke, and in a flash, they expanded into a simple soundproofing barrier, separating the young warlocks from the curious glances outside.

”This matter requires utmost secrecy!” Li Meng began, repeating the sentence again while staring piercingly at the young warlocks, emphasizing, ”I haven’t even told my older cousin about it!”

Zheng Qing turned his head towards the front row of the classroom.

As expected, Jiang Yu was just standing by the lecture desk, holding a pile of thick documents, looking somewhat impatient yet showing no intention of approaching. Under normal circumstances, if Li Meng had left her sight for so long and started chatting behind a soundproof barrier, Jiang Yu would have definitely come over by now.

It looked like she had an idea of what the Little Witch was up to.

Given Jiang Yu’s character, she would probably not allow Li Meng to do something too outrageous.

Zheng Qing turned back, resigning himself with a sigh, ”Alright, spill it. What’s this about?”

The Little Witch clenched her fist, held it to her mouth, and made a mock cough a few times, her smile growing even brighter:

”It’s about Greenhill Mansion!”

”Su Ya told me yesterday that their mansion is making some pumpkin carriages for the school, but they’re short on hands. You guys know, their mansion is after all a bit special, they don’t like strangers coming and going... And besides, with the winter hunt and the final exams lately, everyone is really busy, so she asked me to find a few reliable classmates to lend a hand!”
