High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 801: Chapter 149: It’s Been a Long Time Since I Attended Class

As the footsteps of time hurried into the sixteenth week of school, a restless atmosphere began to pervade the entire campus.

On one hand, many students were astonished to find that they only had a mere three weeks before their final exams—It felt like just one night since the feverish ambiance of Moon Hunting had passed, and the recent turmoil concerning demons attacking the Four Seasons Pavilion and First University’s enrollment charter seemed to have just concluded. Everyone, puzzled about where the time had gone, had to dash frantically, trying to keep up with the slipping away of time in libraries and study rooms.

On the other hand, within these short three weeks, not only were there a series of festivals and solar terms such as the Winter Solstice, Winter Hunting, Christmas Eve, Christmas, Laba Festival, New Year’s Day, and Little Cold, but there were also separate holidays for Christmas and New Year’s Day.

If it were an ordinary time, stealing two days of leisure from arduous study would be excellent. However, it was the stage of the final sprint now, and the students were all facing tremendous exam pressure. This forced many to make a difficult decision between relaxing and seizing every moment.

This was the main reason for the somewhat tense mood on campus.

”Who the hell came up with this holiday schedule?” Zhang Ji Xin slammed the timetable in his hand onto the table, making it clatter loudly, ”Is it deliberately against us hardworking folks? When arranging it, why didn’t they schedule the holidays during Moon Hunting? Or on the Double Ninth Festival? Or the Lower Yuan Festival?... What the hell is the use of scheduling the holidays just a few days before the finals!”

”It’s completely useless as a holiday,” Xin Fat Man nodded in agreement, empathy written all over his face. He then pulled out a notebook from his bosom, licked the tip of his feather pen, and added, ”I feel obliged to write a commentary about this in the Campus Newspaper—it’s a schedule made without any consideration for the students’ feelings...”

Different from Fat Man’s ’two completelies,’ Zheng Qing was habitually picking on the flaws in Elder Zhang Da’s words.

”We did have a holiday on the Lower Yuan Festival,” the young cost student leaned lazily against the back of his chair, his hands cradling his head, and although he was speaking, his eyes couldn’t help but drift towards a corner of the classroom, ”I remember we took a day off that day... And as for the Double Ninth Festival, do you think people of our age really need to celebrate it? We are like the sun rising at eight or nine in the morning, thinking about the Double Ninth Festival now, isn’t it a bit too early?”

Before Zhang Ji Xin could comment on the cost student’s attitude, Fat Man eagerly rebutted, ”That’s a sign of rigid thinking! You only see the surface of things and miss their essence!”

”And what is the essence? It’s that our holiday scheduling is unreasonable!”

”Besides, even if we consider those two points you mentioned... Yes, we had a holiday on the Lower Yuan Festival, but we weren’t allowed to leave the dorm, right? What’s the difference between that and not having a holiday? If we didn’t have a holiday, we could still go out and enjoy the sun. On that day of the Lower Yuan Festival, we were afraid of encountering ghosts if we went out.”

”And about the Double Ninth Festival. We might not need to celebrate it, but the elderly do. The school could have given us a day off to help the elderly celebrate this festival,” Fat Man expounded.

Listening to Fat Man’s refutation, Zheng Qing was silent for a few seconds, then couldn’t help but admire, ”You’ve made both the direct and the reverse arguments, you’re fat and you’re right, I concede defeat to you.”

Having said that, he casually stretched his arms out wide, yawned a big yawn, and tilted his head. In another corner of the classroom, a Gypsy witch was buried behind several thick reference books, her wine-red, voluminous waves draped by her side, hiding her delicate face completely.

”Just go over there if you want to, don’t sit here sneaking around like a thief,” Doctor Xiao, who had been head-to-head with a black-covered notebook, suddenly said from behind the young cost student.

Zhang Ji Xin and Xin Fat Man, who sat in the front, heard this and laughed so hard that they leaned back and forth, drawing surprised glances from their classmates around them.

Zheng Qing’s face turned red all of a sudden.

”What sneaking around, acting like a thief! Spouting all this nonsense, no one can understand what you’re saying.” He slapped Doctor Xiao’s head down onto the notebook, and after struggling for a moment, seeing the increasingly malicious looks from his companions, he immediately gave in, meekly raised his hands, and surrendered.

”Stop messing around, guys, please, no trouble, okay?” The young cost student repeatedly bowed and scraped, terrified of disturbing the Gypsy witch burying herself in reference books not far away. If it weren’t for the fact that his two hands were no match for six, he certainly wouldn’t hesitate to slap a few talisman papers on the faces of these scoundrels from the grey cloth bag, where he groped and pulled out a stack of colorful talismans.

”Hmm, are you two having a conflict?” Xin Fat Man, belly protruding, mysteriously produced a small box of popcorn, and while savoring it with relish, he leisurely looked at the cost student: ”I remember you haven’t asked Elena to hang out for a week now, have you...”

To be precise, it had been eight days and twelve hours, Zheng Qing corrected in his heart. Thinking about this, he began to feel despondent again. He remembered clearly that eight days ago, it was snowing heavily in the school, and it was a Saturday when he spent a pleasant afternoon with the Gypsy witch.

Yes, in the eyes of the young cost student, that day was truly perfect.

Beautiful snowscapes, delicious snacks, a wonderful atmosphere, and that heart-fluttering moment—if it weren’t for the sudden event that occurred on the white tower of Lake Heart Island, his first date with Elena would have been perfect.

Yet it was that incident that brought their hurried end to the date, which eventually ended at the campus hospital. Since that day, the Gypsy witch, who had previously been somewhat warm, inexplicably began to distance herself from Zheng Qing again.

The paper cranes he sent her, unreplied to.

When encountering her on the road, she would lower her head pretending not to see.

The only face-to-face interaction in eight days happened last Friday during practice class. The Absolution Hunting Team buddies tried hard to place Zheng Qing and Elena in the same group. Sadly, that day, Assistant Hilda had everyone review all the spells learned that semester from start to finish.

Acting as the witch’s practice partner, the young cost student then found himself cycling through spells like ’bound by vines—body going limp—dizzy and disoriented.’ Perhaps because of the strong effect of Elena’s ’Chaos Spell,’ by the end of the class, Zheng Qing’s mind was a complete blank. He could only smile stupidly, unable to speak coherently, let alone say anything to the witch.

Boys have tempers too.

And when they get stubborn, they can be more unreasonable than girls.

Zheng Qing felt he hadn’t done anything wrong, didn’t need to, and shouldn’t have to put up with this treatment.

I’ve done everything I could, if you insist on ignoring me, then I can only remain silent—The young cost student thought this to himself, forcibly suppressing the irritation in his heart—of course, these thoughts he would only repeat silently to himself, never telling anyone.
