High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 802: Chapter 150: The Professor Called in by the Student Council

”Could it be that your red eyes scared Elena?”

”Or did she find out about your three-timing?”

”There’s a saying, a couple for a day is a couple for a hundred days, fight at the head of the bed, make up at the foot... how big can the problem be, right? Just appease her, butter her up a bit, and isn’t it all settled? Girls like this kind of sentimentality.”

Xin Fat Man and Zhang Ji Xin chimed in one after the other, whispering all sorts of unreliable things by Zheng Qing’s ear, completely oblivious to the increasingly dark expression on the young sponsored student’s face.

It was only when Zheng Qing could hardly contain the rage in his heart, planning to draw his Colt silver python to give the two fools a splash of color, that the stick figure posted behind the classroom door suddenly screamed:

”Old Yao is coming?! Old Yao is coming!”

”Old Yao has already gone up the stairs and has reached the corner!”

”Everyone, sit nicely, get out your textbooks and notebooks!”

Upon hearing its warning, the originally chaotic classroom exploded like a pot-covered frying pan. After a booming noise, within just a moment, all sounds had quietly dissipated. Only slight rustling noises remained, the sound of some people nervously flipping through textbooks, or accidentally moving their chairs or desks.

From afar, Professor Yao’s footsteps could already be heard coming from the corridor.

”Excuse me... considering how reliable I am, would someone be so kind as to draw me a hat after class!” Noticing the quiet atmosphere in the classroom later, the stick figure behind the door once again repeated its perennial request: ”It’s already winter, young wizards, do you have the heart to mistreat a free soul?”

Zheng Qing listened to the stick figure’s muttering and couldn’t help but roll his eyes—although much time had passed, he still remembered quite clearly how that same stick figure had once played the ’boy who cried wolf’, fooling everyone for a while. The fact that the classmates hadn’t drawn chilly breezes or piled up a couple of snowmen on that stick figure’s paper during the dead of winter was already a very polite and generous gesture, not to mention drawing it a hat.

”I’ve always been curious, you say it’s just a drawing on paper, can it feel cold?” Xin Fat Man seemed to recall something, regardless of Old Yao’s increasingly close footsteps, he turned his head, curiously asking Xiao Xiao.

Before Xiao Xiao could respond, Elder Zhang Da chuckled softly beside him: ”Ridiculous... You aren’t a simple sketch, how do you know it can’t feel the cold?”

Xin Fat Man was startled, reflexively retorted: ”You aren’t me, how do you know I don’t know whether that stick figure is cold or not?”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Ji Xin’s expression stiffened, and immediately, a trace of annoyance appeared on his face—undoubtedly, if he continued to argue with Fat Man, he would fall into the logical trap of ’a fish has no concept of water’. But if he showed no reaction, wouldn’t it seem like he, Elder Zhang Da, was showing weakness before some fatso?

Sometimes, actions speak louder than words.

The red-faced male wizard, without a word, swung his fist and viciously smashed it towards Fat Man, forcing all the eloquent yet unsaid expressions back down his stomach.

When Professor Yao entered the classroom, he just saw Xin Fat Man’s aggrieved expression.

”Quite lively here.” Holding lecture notes, the professor strode energetically to the podium while tilting his head, smiling at the students below and subtly glancing at the warlocks sitting in the corner, casually asked the witches in the front row: ”I heard noise from the hallway just now as I was approaching the classroom... Did something happen?”

”It’s just that little figure behind the door again, asking us to draw it a hat.” Li Meng eagerly raised her little arm, stood up, and quickly responded, while proudly making a face at the stick figure behind the door.

”Traitor! You, traitor among the young wizards! I won’t let you off even as a ghost!” After hearing the little witch’s accusation, the stick figure behind the door, possessed by some drama queen, abruptly lay on the ground and started throwing a tantrum.

”You’re just a simple sketch; you couldn’t become a ghost if you wanted to...” Li Meng pursed her lips, about to say more, when a hand suddenly stretched out and pulled her back to her seat.

Turning her head, Jiang Yu was sternly looking at her.

The little witch stuck out her tongue and obediently flipped open her notebook and spellbook, pretending to study.

Professor Yao chuckled, reached into his pocket for his pipe, and just after stuffing a small wad of tobacco into it, seemed to remember something and put the pipe back into his pocket, a trace of contemplation on his face, ”Hmm, last time during class, I was talked to by a student council member who asked me to consider everyone’s health and not to smoke in classrooms or during class... It’s a good thing, so I agreed. From now on, you can monitor me—if I smoke during class, I’ll waive your assignment for that week.”

As soon as he said this, a wave of cheers arose from below.

Old Yao smiled and made a calming down gesture with his arm.

Once the classroom atmosphere had lightened a bit, he continued, ”Although it’s a bit embarrassing for a dean to be talked to by student council members, I am quite pleased.”

”Because it means that you, or should I say, the students of Jiuyou Academy, truly consider yourselves part of the academy, as its owners. You’ve taken on responsibilities, the duties that you ought to bear.”

”This is a very good sign.”

”For instance, today... I thought given it’s nearing the end of the term and everyone’s probably under a lot of stress, I specifically asked Assistant Hilda to prepare a few jokes to lighten the mood before class. But looking at the current situation, I guess my poor jokes are unnecessary.”

”Very good, excellent... quite commendable indeed!”

Saying this, the professor again took the pipe from his pocket and habitually popped it into his mouth.

”Professor, you’re smoking!” Li Meng, who had just sat down less than a minute ago, immediately screamed and jumped up excitedly, ”Does that mean we can skip our spell course assignment next week?”

Laughter erupted in the classroom, accompanied by a few quiet cheers.

Jiang Yu, sitting next to Li Meng, covered her face with her hand, a look of embarrassment crossing her face.

”Excellent! The academy needs energetic young people like you!” Old Yao gave the little witch a thumbs up in admiration but then shrugged apologetically, ”However, you will still have to submit your spell course assignment next week... because I was just chewing on the pipe, not actually smoking.”

”There’s a fundamental difference.”

A wave of disappointed sighs came from the audience—although everyone knew that waivers on assignments weren’t so easily granted by Old Yao, missing such an opportunity still hurt.

”Don’t sigh; you should feel lucky,” the professor said with his head down, glancing up at the young wizards as he arranged the lecture notes on his desk, chuckling, ”It’s only three weeks until the final exams. Writing one more assignment now might help you answer one more major question correctly during the exams... You should be able to see the benefits and drawbacks clearly, right?”
