High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 812: Chapter 160: The Messenger

It was three-thirty in the afternoon.

There were less than two hours left until the grand liberation of the weekend. Since it was a class hour, the entire academy was enveloped in a tranquil atmosphere.

After Zheng Qing left the classroom in building -101, he quickened his pace. Once he was out of the corridor, thinking that no one could hear his footsteps, he broke into a run, hurrying toward the dormitory.

Along the way, other than the sound of him gasping for air, the only other sounds were the occasional cold winds that swept through the treetops, carrying a low whining noise. On a normal day, the young warlock would have slapped several talisman papers on himself for wind protection and warmth, then would have walked slowly, hunching over to avoid letting the chilly air sneak inside his collar.

But not today.

The young wizard’s time was extremely urgent—he had half-coaxed half-deceived Teacher Zhang into granting him a half-class break, and he definitely couldn’t afford to waste it dawdling on his walk.

Even though he rushed back to the dorm at breakneck speed, he still had to stop at the dorm entrance for a few minutes, waiting for Grandpa Niwu to let him in.

Unlike the agitated wizard waiting, Grandpa Niwu always seemed to have a leisurely demeanor.

He lazily opened his eyes, lazily opened his mouth, lazily stuck out his tongue, and rolled the used cigarette butt Zheng Qing handed him into his mouth, then lingeringly smacked his lips. The only difference today was that Grandpa Niwu gave the young cost student a couple more glances, seemingly surprised that the young wizard had returned so early.

Since Grandpa Niwu almost never spoke to the students and always showed a lack of flexibility, even if he was scrutinized by the Bronze Beast, Zheng Qing just smiled and quietly waited for him to open the door, without a thought of making any funny remarks in his mind.

The dormitory corridor was also unusually quiet.

If there was any difference between the quietness here and outside, it was that the corridor was quieter than the school outside, and it was slightly warmer—this idle comparison flitted through the young cost student’s mind as he burst into the dormitory.

But this thought was fleeting.

And as Zheng Qing pushed open the dorm door, the quiet that had lasted all along was unavoidably shattered.

”Fuck! What are you doing here?!”

The young cost student stood half inside the dorm, half in the corridor outside, staring at the figure that appeared in the dorm, his face troubled, ”And what are you doing...”

”Fuck! I should be the one asking you that... What time is it, and you’re already running back here? Playing hooky, legend has it?!” Inside the dorm, a handsome warlock, naked, was frantically pulling on his robe while he couldn’t help but rant, ”As for why I’m here... because I just woke up, man! If I’m not here, where would I be?! And you, next time you come in, can you knock first?! Would a little more politeness kill you?!”

The frantic warlock was Dylan.

Hearing his response, Zheng Qing suddenly came to his senses. Mister Wolfman’s daily routine was the exact opposite of everyone else’s. Others would leave early and return late, while he would return early and leave late. An occasional daytime stroll for him was equivalent to pulling an all-nighter.

It was almost four o’clock in the afternoon now, and according to Dylan’s usual habits, it was about the time he usually woke up.

It was just that on usual days when everyone returned from class, this particular noble under the moon often had already dressed neatly, with oil in his hair, powder on his face, his robe crisply pressed, his belt tightly cinched, and his cufflinks sparkling—showing his true self like today was the first time in Zheng Qing’s memory.

Although he was very curious to see how some reproductive organs of the Blood Werewolf differed from those of a normal Warlock, considering his safety, the young cost student still wisely shifted his gaze towards the Six-pillar bed next to him.

Well, it seemed that Dylan had indeed just gotten out of bed. On his Six-pillar bed, the big red curtains hadn’t been drawn yet and looked very messy. Through the gaps in the curtains, he could see that the lid of the black coffin was also wide open, like a monster choosing its prey.

This was not a good sign.

The young cost student hurriedly averted his gaze and shifted it slightly higher.

Then a flash of bright yellow light suddenly arrived, nearly blinding him.

”Damn! How is that copper mirror still hanging there?” Zheng Qing yelled while covering his eyes, ”Didn’t I tell you to throw it away a long time ago? After hanging there for so long, the talisman on it must have lost its effectiveness by now!”

The copper mirror he mentioned was a few months ago when the Sand Time Worm had not yet been caught by the school, many students started decorating their dormitories with various talismans and exorcism decorations due to rampant rumors in campus. Dormitory 403 was no exception, which included a Peach Wood Sword, Get Rid of Evil Ashes, and talismans engraved all over the room.

The copper mirror was also hung up in the dormitory by Dylan at that time.

Later, once the Sand Time Worm was caught and the rumors dispelled, Zheng Qing proposed more than once to take down that mirror from the ceiling. But because everyone found it troublesome, and occasionally Sprites would fly in front of the mirror to admire themselves, the task was postponed again and again, up to today, causing the young Warlock to be blinded once more.

”If you want to get rid of it, do it yourself. No one is stopping you!” Dylan’s voice came from the side, sounding quite irritable.

Hearing that his voice was back to normal, the young cost student cautiously removed his hands from his eyes. Mister Wolfman was as usual standing in front of the dressing mirror, meticulously grooming himself, and occasionally reaching into a small bronze box in front of him, scooping some sticky liquid out and smearing it on his head.

Meanwhile, sensing the cost student’s return, the Sprites also fluttered up from Tuan Tuan’s belly, ending their afternoon nap, and busied themselves either pouring tea, ironing towels, or tidying the desk and bed, displaying the demeanor of little domestic experts.

”You haven’t said why you came back so early today?!” Noticing the cost student’s gaze, Dylan tilted his head and glanced at him, repeating his earlier question while guessing, ”Haven’t you been talking about going to Greenhill Mansion these past few days? Is that why you left early today? Is Teacher Hilda that easy to talk to?”

Only then did Zheng Qing remember the trouble he was carrying on himself and couldn’t help but shout.

”Oh no! I almost forgot!”

Ignoring Dylan’s surprised look and without explaining that the afternoon Practice class had been changed to Fu Lu Class, he quickly leaped into the dormitory. After kicking off his shoes, he dove into his Six-pillar bed, letting the curtains fall.

Through the thick curtains, he said to Dylan in an urgent tone, ”When the others come back, tell them that Old Yao arranged something time-consuming for me today... I probably won’t make it to the Qingqiu Club. Tell them not to wait for me... I’ll apologize to Li Meng later!”

”I was planning to leave a message with a Paper Crane, but since you’re here, you can pass it on.”
