High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 807: Chapter 155: Half-hearted

Li Meng had dealings with Su Ya, and Zheng Qing had indeed heard about it.

First University wasn’t exactly small, but it wasn’t that big either. The campus was a place where one constantly saw many of the same faces. Moreover, it was a university, not a middle or elementary school, so there were very few young wizards. There were hardly any little wizards for Su Ya to chat and play with.

Li Meng was one, and Lin Guo was another.

However, due to differences in gender and personality, compared to the rigid and oddly timed Lin Guo, Li Meng, who had a similar background, age, personality, and hobbies as Su Ya, was obviously more able to chat with her.

Regardless of gender, when little buddies got together, loyalty was naturally the most important thing.

When Su Ya was assigned by the Head Maid of Greenhill Mansion to pick pumpkins and make pumpkin carriages, her little buddy Li Meng naturally took it upon herself to lighten Su Ya’s load.

”...So, your task is very easy, you just need to pick a few pumpkins in the garden and then sketch a few monitoring runes on them as requested. The rest will be taken care of by the Alchemy Grandmaster of Greenhill Mansion.”

”I’ve thought it over, and among the people I know, only a few of you are reliable... Of course, I need to make it clear in advance that there is no payment for this work! Not a single copper!”

Li Meng said the last sentence very seriously, raising her little index finger, waving it in front of Zheng Qing’s nose, and emphasizing again, ”But I would never force you guys to do this!”

”It’s because we have a good relationship, that I thought about pulling you guys in on this.”

”If I were to post a job notice for part-time workers at Greenhill Mansion on the notice board outside, it wouldn’t take long before the swarm of paper cranes would flood me!”

As she spoke, Li Meng, like a little adult, tiptoed and patted the shoulder of the young cost student, showing a ’you better thank me’ expression.

Zheng Qing looked at the Little Witch with a horrified expression, then turned his head to look at Doctor Xiao.

What happened to the preparations for the festival celebrations? What happened to the preparations for the winter hunt? How did it turn into something about Greenhill Mansion?! And now it’s entangled with that little fox spirit, Su Ya!

Indeed, the moment he heard the name ’Su Ya’ from Li Meng’s mouth, he started to feel uneasy.

Just like Li Meng, that little fox lady was a Trouble Sprite and also a tear bag—The young cost student still vividly remembered that during Moon Hunting, the first time he encountered the little fox lady, he was thrown into chaos by her tears—therefore, when Zheng Qing took Poseidon to Greenhill Mansion on regular days, he avoided the little fox lady whenever possible.

Not to mention when there were a lot of people around!

Whether it was to prevent Poseidon’s background from being leaked or out of consideration for avoiding suspicion, he didn’t think it was a good idea to be seen at Greenhill Mansion with others. He didn’t believe that little girl Su Ya could have an understanding with him and pretend not to know each other in front of outsiders.

For a moment, the young cost student’s mind was filled with worries, buzzing as he focused on finding a way to extricate himself from this mess.

But unlike him, the other warlocks from the Absolution Hunting Team showed a great interest in getting up close and personal with Greenhill Mansion.

”Greenhill Mansion?!” Zhang Ji Xin repeated the term in a tone of shock.

”Is that where Su Shi Jun is staying now?!” Xin Fat Man’s eyes gleamed, and he had no idea when he had pulled out his little notebook and feather pen, with the words ’I want to interview’ clearly written on his face.

By comparison, Doctor Xiao seemed a little more composed.

First, he expressed a certain disdain for Xin Fat Man’s recent choice of words: ”Ignorant... Su Shi Jun is neither a Ji Zi nor a woman of the Ji family, can she use the term ’reside’? ”

Then, the short-statured warlock adjusted his glasses and coughed softly: ”Well, speaking of which, Su Ya and Zheng Qing know each other, right? We are also helping a friend... anyway, the D&K opening is not a big deal, everything is more or less sorted out. It is the inescapable duty of every Jiuyou student to contribute to the friendly relationship between the Moon Council and First University!”

These words were spoken with a righteous vigor, claiming the high ground of friendship and morality in every aspect Zheng Qing could see, leaving the young cost student stunned—how had he never noticed Doctor Xiao’s ’hypocritical’ side before?

This put him in an incredibly passive position.

”Tsk, boys,” Li Meng said, her mouth twitching as she saw the warlocks’ reactions, her face showing no surprise. After all, not every wizard gets the chance to visit Su Da beauty’s residence up close.

She didn’t take this opportunity to demand a hefty kickback as a tip from the male witches, which was very friendly of her already.

Only Zheng Qing, his lips opening and closing, like a salted fish in a dry channel. After much deliberation, he didn’t dare to go against the overwhelming trend in front of him, nor did he find some random excuse to refuse as the thought had just popped into his head.

On one hand, he had just signed a Silence Contract, and on the other hand, refusing in this situation would only raise more suspicions, wouldn’t it?

Thinking of that contract, the young cost student suddenly had an epiphany, realizing a tiny loophole in the Silence Contract he had just signed.

Perhaps due to an overemphasis on the principle of confidentiality, that simple Silence Contract only regulated the Contractor’s conditions for keeping secrets from start to finish, without forcing the Contractor to complete any particular work—perhaps the contract drafter didn’t think any student would pass up the chance to do odd jobs at Greenhill Mansion.

”If,” Zheng Qing cautiously began, emphasizing, ”Just if... if I have something else on Friday and can’t make it to your work, will you wait for me?”

He dearly hoped to hear a response like ”We are on a tight schedule and won’t delay work for anyone’s absence.”

But Goddess Eurala loved to tease mortals over such trifles.

”What could you possibly be busy with!” Xin Fat Man extended his thick arm, grasped the young cost student’s neck, shook it, and laughed heartily, ”I saw everything today, Elena didn’t pay any attention to you the entire class! What else could you possibly have to do?”

Zheng Qing’s face turned an instant red.

But it was unclear whether it was because Fat Man’s arm was obstructing his blood flow or because Fat Man’s words hit a nerve too deeply.

After mocking Zheng Qing, Xin Fat Man suddenly remembered something and turned to look at Li Meng again.

”Since we’re making a pumpkin carriage, do you need our help to buy pumpkins?” His face beamed with enthusiastic smiles, almost as if he was about to wag his tail while holding Li Meng’s hand: ”I know a few druids in town, they’re highly capable! The greenhouses they’ve set up are fabulous! They can definitely provide the perfect pumpkins! Us guys are strong; we can handle the buying and the hauling!”

A series of ”very” highlighted some of his confidence.
