Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 662: Chapter 346: Racing Against Time (Second Update)

Ian Lothrop laughed heartily, pointing at Lawrence Winters, and said to Leo Carter, ”This is my last disciple, what do you think? Impressive, right!”

Leo Carter: ”!!!”

He had been pleading for so long, only to be a bystander while Ian Lothrop performed surgeries, and now Lawrence Winters could actually become his last disciple?!

Truly envious, jealous, and resentful!

He glared at Lawrence Winters angrily before turning away to follow Ian Lothrop out with long strides.

Lawrence Winters didn’t care at all. She waved a smiling goodbye at their backs and then returned to Nick Zeller’s original hospital room with Gabrielle Winters, Kenneth Osborne, and Francis Johnson.

The group waited nervously by Nick Zeller’s bedside.

To be honest, except for Francis Johnson, everyone felt a little uncertain inside.

They thought when Ian Lothrop said ”five minutes,” it was probably an approximation, not a literal five minutes.

Maybe fifteen minutes, fifty minutes, or even five hours or five days.

But no worries, they could wait.

However, Lawrence Winters could feel that just after the minute hand passed the zero position for the fifth time, Nick Zeller opened his eyes.

This kind of precision left even Lawrence Winters in awe.

She couldn’t help but feel a bit of admiration for Ian Lothrop.

Gabrielle Winters had already rushed to his side, gently leaning by Nick Zeller’s bed, afraid to startle him, softly calling his name, ”Nick? Can you hear me? Can you see?”

Nick Zeller felt as if he was waking from a dream.

One moment, he was being beaten on the black soil halfway up the mountain, and the next, he opened his eyes and saw paradise.

Everything was sheer white, with only Gabrielle Winters’ gentle features as the sole color in his world.

After a while, his vision started to focus, and he began to think clearly.

Nick Zeller slightly lifted his eyes, struggling a bit, and smiled at Gabrielle Winters.

Gabrielle Winters held back her tears, stopped calling his name, and smiled back at him.

Lawrence Winters hurriedly said, ”Alright, alright, as long as the... master has awakened, everything’s fine. Rest well and sleep; tomorrow you’ll surely be lively as ever!”

Nick Zeller, upon hearing Lawrence Winters speak, felt a vein on his forehead bulging.

What ’master’?! You make it sound like a canteen chef!

He, Nick Zeller, was once a handsome young man full of grace!

It’s just that over the years, he’s gained weight, lost his looks...

In that moment, Nick Zeller even thought about exercising and losing weight.

Gabrielle Winters was still so beautiful; he couldn’t hold her back, letting people say, ”A fresh flower...”

Ah, spit, spit, spit!

Nick Zeller’s mind was buzzing with thoughts, though his face still showed some stiffness.

Patients with brain damage often have this issue, but recovery will come with time.

Lawrence Winters walked over to look at the data on the instruments beside Nick Zeller’s bed. Even though she couldn’t understand them, just looking made her feel much more at ease.

The confidence and joy were hopes given to her by those numbers.

Kenneth Osborne also walked over, saying calmly, ”Uncle, rest well. When you’re discharged, I’ll hire a good rehabilitation therapist for you, and you’ll be back to normal in no time.”

Nick Zeller worked hard to show a smile, struggling a bit, but he gave Kenneth Osborne face.

Lawrence Winters quickly said, ”Master, you don’t need to do that; Ian is not an outsider, no need to smile specially for him.”

Nick Zeller’s smile instantly fell, and he glared at Lawrence Winters, even puffing out his cheeks.

Gabrielle Winters pushed Lawrence Winters away, scolding, ”At a time like this, you’re still upsetting your master... Enough, I’ve got this; you and Ian head back and bring over the food made by the old immortal.”

”Okay, we’ll go back right away.”

Lawrence Winters pulled Kenneth Osborne out of the room, leaving it for Gabrielle Winters and Nick Zeller.

Francis Johnson also followed them out.

The three took the elevator downstairs together.

Francis Johnson thought about the text he’d received from Christopher Mason on his phone, curved his lips, and said to Lawrence Winters, ”Lawrence, what you did this time was indeed wrong. But because Professor Lothrop spoke for you, we won’t be pressing charges for now.”

Lawrence Winters: ”...”

She unexpectedly felt tense again.

As if something tremendous was watching her, she involuntarily stood as straight as a student being punished in class.

Kenneth Osborne pressed his lips together and said to Francis Johnson, ”Mr. Zhao, Lawrence’s situation was excusable. She won’t do it again; could you... cut her some slack?”

”No.” Francis Johnson smiled faintly, shaking his head, ”If we don’t punish her this time, do you think there won’t be a next time?”

”Justice is a principle we should uphold. A person who follows justice is a good person. But carrying out justice is a mark of a civilized person.”

Lawrence Winters’ toes curled with awkwardness, the pressure almost drilling through her shoe soles.

She waited anxiously for her judgment.

Francis Johnson’s mouth revealed a barely noticeable smile as he looked at the swirl of hair on Lawrence Winters’ head, saying, ”The department has decided to require you to complete a hundred hours of special agency service, primarily helping the department when needed, contributing to the nation and the people.”

Lawrence Winters let out an ”uh,” blinking her big eyes, with her long, thick, and black eyelashes fluttering, ”...The department? Special agency? Can you be more specific? What can I do? Help? Are you asking me to hit people again?”

She raised her fist, making a ”punching” motion.

Francis Johnson smiled slightly, ”Of course, it’s not about hitting people, but since you’re from the Celestial Path Sect and claim to be the most skilled among them? ——There will always be some situations that need the expertise of someone from the Celestial Path Sect.”

He winked at Lawrence Winters.

Lawrence instantly understood, a huge stone in her chest finally set down, she nodded like a pecking chick, ”Got it, got it! I’ll definitely give my all...!”

Before she could finish the last word, Kenneth Osborne covered her mouth.

He frowned and said, ”Alright, just do your job well for Mr. Zhao and the others, don’t speak out of turn.”

This time, Lawrence Winters didn’t get angry. She knew better than anyone the danger of speaking without thinking.

She quickly nodded in Kenneth Osborne’s hand, mischievously kissing the palm.

Kenneth Osborne’s hand immediately recoiled as if shocked, no longer covering Lawrence Winters’ mouth.

Francis Johnson just pretended not to see this little couple’s antics.

The elevator dinged as it reached the first floor.

The elevator door opened, and just as they were about to leave, they saw a dense crowd standing in front of the elevator door.

Leading the group was an elderly man with a cane, his brows furrowed—it was Cameron Spencer.
