Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 653: Chapter 343: Keeping Up with the Joneses (First Update)

Lawrence Winters successfully resolved the crisis for Lucas Harlow, which also means resolving the crisis for NewHuman Entertainment Ltd.

She accomplished the long journey from online counterattack to real-life litigation in just two days.

This was seen as a remarkable feat by the lawyers of the Foster Consortium.

Because debunking rumors is simple; a few screenshots can be released.

However, filing a lawsuit in court requires more than just screenshots; concrete evidence is necessary.

Within two days, Lawrence Winters obtained all evidence of Summer Spencer bribing marketing accounts from NeoHuman Entertainment Company to start smearing Lucas Harlow.

The only thing she was somewhat dissatisfied with was the anonymous account that initially posted the video.

Their company sent a lawyer’s letter to Weibo, asking Weibo to provide the specific IP address and real-name authentication information of that account.

As a result, Weibo only found that the account’s IP was located abroad, and it wasn’t registered with real-name authentication.

This was also inevitable, as real-name authentication currently only applies to domestic users. Users with foreign IP addresses do not need real-name authentication to repost, comment, or create their own Weibo posts.

However, other evidence was sufficient to prove the enormous reputational damage Summer Spencer caused to Lucas Harlow and NewHuman Corporation, making their compensation claim reasonable.

A celebrity’s reputation is part of their artistic life.

Slandering someone’s reputation is tantamount to killing their artistic life, making compensation inevitable.

Initially, the lawyers of the Foster Consortium did not agree with the demand for as much as 2 billion in compensation.

This is also a typical mindset domestically, where many rights defenders don’t even ask for a penny in compensation, just a public apology from the other party.

Lawrence Winters despised this approach, seeing it as foolish.

Do you think those who spread rumors care about losing face?

No, they don’t, so just asking for an ”apology” is far from enough to stop them.

Only by demanding massive compensation can they feel the pain.

Go ahead, keep spreading rumors, let’s see how much money you have to pay for others’ huge compensation claims.

She finally persuaded the lawyers of the Foster Consortium to agree on demanding huge compensation.

Moreover, with the announcement of their compensation amount, even the stock price of the Spencer Group dropped significantly.

Because the Spencer Group holds shares in NeoHuman Entertainment Company.

If the compensation claim succeeds, the Spencer Group would also have to bleed financially.

Gabriel Foster, the president and chairman of the Foster Consortium, who is Edward Foster’s father, was very pleased, praising Lawrence Winters more and more.

Edward Foster’s mother already treated Lawrence as if she were a daughter-in-law.

During Nick Zeller’s hospital stay, Edward Foster’s parents specifically went to visit him and met Gabrielle Winters, exchanging WeChat contacts, thus getting acquainted.

Today, the employees and artists of NewHuman Corporation prepared a party specifically for Lawrence Winters.

Edward Foster hired the best restaurant in the city for on-site service, preparing a top-level buffet, complete with cakes and champagne, setting it up like a holiday celebration.

Lawrence Winters was kept in the dark about the whole plan.

Today she indeed felt uneasy all day, and by four in the afternoon, she had used the Five Emperors Coins several times, each result unfavorable.

How could this be?

Naturally, when Edward Foster suddenly called her to a meeting in the conference room at exactly four, Lawrence was startled, thinking Edward was going to fire her...

After all, it was because of her that Lucas Harlow was embroiled in this farce, almost causing irreparable damage to both the company and Lucas Harlow’s acting career.

If she were the boss, she would have fired someone like herself long ago.

So she considered her work over the past two days as rectifying mistakes, never thinking it was any kind of achievement or contribution.

Thus, when she opened the conference room door and a shower of golden confetti fell from above, the lights suddenly brightened, and a crowd rushed out yelling ”Surprise,” she was almost frightened enough to fall.

Edward Foster laughingly steadied her waist, saying, ”Don’t panic, they’re celebrating you.”

”Celebrating me? What’s there to celebrate?” Lawrence asked in surprise, ”It’s not even my birthday?”

”Haha, you saved our company from massive loss and hit the Spencer Group hard, our year-end bonuses might all double, don’t you think we should throw a party for you to celebrate?”

Edward tilted his head, winking at the employees crowded by the conference room door.

Year-end bonus doubled?!
