Chapter 1334: Chapter 1335: Breach of Trust

An Jing smiled and said, ”Your Brother Yi made them as birthday gifts for the children.”

Su Chengyu’s eyes immediately lit up as he looked towards Xiao Changyi, but before he could speak, Xiao Changyi gave him five words: ”Don’t even think about it.”

Su Chengyu, who thought of his Brother Yi making wooden toy carts for his newly born twins, was speechless: ”...”

An Jing said, ”If you want such toy carts, you can ask a carpenter to make them. I’ll give you the plans for this wooden cart later.”

”Thank you, Sister-in-law,” Su Chengyu immediately expressed his gratitude.

”How is Wen Xian? Is she well?” asked An Jing.

Su Chengyu replied, ”Wen Xian is still confined after childbirth, so she couldn’t accompany Jing’er and the others for their birthday today. She asked me to pass the message to Brother Yi and Sister-in-law.”

”Her health is the most important,” An Jing said.

The birthday banquet for the four little ones took place at Fenghua Palace, and just after the banquet ended, a guard hurried in and whispered something to Su Chengyu.

After the guard left, Su Chengyu slowly asked, ”I’m not sure if the Emperor, Brother Yi, and Sister-in-law still remember the Seventh Prince of Dongqing Kingdom, Dongfang Tianyang?”

Su Haoyu nodded, indicating he remembered.

Xiao Changyi’s face was expressionless.

”I remember,” said An Jing.

Only then did Su Chengyu say, ”He is now the Crown Prince of Dongqing Kingdom.”

All three were somewhat surprised.

Su Chengyu continued, ”Five days ago, the Emperor of Dongqing deposed the Crown Prince and made Dongfang Tianyang the new Crown Prince. This Dongfang Tianyang is not only the favorite son of the Emperor of Dongqing, but the Emperor has also deposed the heir for him. He... is truly remarkable.”

The Crown Prince is the heir to the throne, not someone who can be easily deposed. Even if the Emperor of Dongqing favored Dongfang Tianyang greatly, he would not depose his legitimate first-born son lightly, but now, it has been done. This shows that Dongfang Tianyang must be very remarkable indeed.

”Whether he’s simple or not, as long as Dongqing Kingdom does not take Xiyun as an enemy, and the two countries remain on good terms, who becomes the Crown Prince or the Emperor of Dongqing is of no concern to us,” Su Haoyu said.

”The only fear is that his ambitions are large, and he doesn’t just want Dongqing, but also our Xiyun. While the two nations are currently on good terms, we can’t be sure about the future. We in Xiyun should always be aware of potential crises to avoid being unprepared when it’s too late,” An Jing said.

Haoyu nodded his head, ”You make a good point.”

Su Chengyu also agreed, ”I think the same as Sister-in-law. Brother Yi, what do you think?”

Xiao Changyi said, ”The man has just become Crown Prince and it’s hard to say what he will do in the future. It’s too early for us to worry, but there’s no harm in being cautious early.”

An Jing, Su Chengyu, and Su Haoyu all agreed with Xiao Changyi’s point of view: ”That’s true.”

No matter what the future relations between Dongqing and Xiyun will be, being cautious is always a good thing.

As soon as the matter of Dongfang Tianyang becoming the Crown Prince of Dongqing Kingdom was mentioned, Su Chengyu said, ”Chilin has been causing trouble at the border of the two countries lately. We need to be more wary of Chilin than Dongqing.”

An Jing said, ”Chilin has a peace treaty with us in Xiyun that promises never to attack. If they do not abide by this treaty and truly invade Xiyun again, we naturally don’t have to adhere to any peace agreement. At that point, it will only be Chilin who loses credibility.”

Once a nation loses its credibility, other countries will naturally not trust it anymore.

”The Emperor of Chilin refuses to hand over Linghe, which has made the relationship between Chilin and Xiyun as hostile as fire and water. Given this hostility, that paper agreement might as well be non-existent to both Chilin and Xiyun, and other nations probably think the same,” said Su Haoyu.

In other words, if Chilin attacks Xiyun, Chilin would not be considered untrustworthy.
