Chapter 1331: Chapter 1332: Wooden Cart

”Then I’ll be off, leaving them to you.”

”Mhm.”

At the entrance of the women’s military camp, An Jing waved to Ye Zhi before riding off with Xiao Changyi on the same horse, heading to the Imperial Capital to celebrate the birthdays of their four children in the palace.

At the gate of the Imperial Palace, Meng Zhuqing had already rushed there with a horse-drawn carriage, which contained the gifts An Jing and Xiao Changyi prepared for the four little ones—four small wooden cars.

The wooden cars were made entirely of wood, each with four wheels, the front two smaller than the rear two, and all four were handcrafted by Xiao Changyi himself.

They were designed by An Jing based on her memory of modern cars and constructed by Xiao Changyi.

The gifts for their children’s birthday were made with particular care by Xiao Changyi, using extremely fine wood.

Xiao Changyi let An Jing ride Zhuri into the palace, while he drove the carriage in.

At the entrance of Fenghua Palace, the four little ones were already waiting—not exactly just waiting; it would be more accurate to say they were playing at the entrance of Fenghua Palace while waiting for An Jing and Xiao Changyi, simultaneously waiting and playing without missing out on either.

And as soon as they saw An Jing and Xiao Changyi, the four little ones stopped playing and ran excitedly towards them with their short legs.

”Daddy! Mommy!”

An Jing and Xiao Changyi, seeing the enthusiasm of their four children, who were now four years old, couldn’t help but feel how time flies. Yet, they both wore smiles on their faces, one beaming broadly, and the other only slightly curving the corners of their mouth.

It was only when they were closer to the children that An Jing stopped her horse, dismounted, crouched down, and embraced all four little ones in her arms.

After rubbing each of their little faces, An Jing said to them, ”Daddy’s over there, and your gifts are with him. Go and give Daddy a hug.”

”Mhm~” The four little ones nodded their tiny heads at An Jing, their voices sweet and tender, then ran towards Xiao Changyi, ”Daddy, hug, hug! Want gifts! Want gifts!”

An Jing laughed: ”What do you want first, a hug or the gifts?”

The four little ones immediately replied in their tender voices: ”Hug first, then gifts.”

”So well-behaved,” praised An Jing on the spot.

Xiao Changyi got down from the carriage, and seeing the four little ones running towards him for a hug, he bent down and embraced them. After the hugs, he took down the wooden cars from the carriage, one for each child.

One car each, all the same, no need to fight over them—a fair distribution.

As for the wooden cars, they were still quite unfamiliar to the four little ones. They just looked at their own wooden cars, not sure how to play with them.

”Daddy, how do we play with these little cars?” Su Yi Jing was the first to ask.

Despite being an adult, Xiao Changyi, knowing how to play with the cars, wouldn’t sit in one to demonstrate. Thus, when asked by Su Yi Jing, he didn’t offer a personal demonstration, but instead lifted Su Yi Jing into the car, helping him grip the handles securely.

”You can have someone push you, and the car will move,” he explained, and gave the car a push, making it roll immediately, which all four little ones found to be great fun.

”Also, you can use both feet to scoot on the ground and get the car to move on your own.”

Unlike modern vehicles, these cars had no chains; they moved either by one’s own foot power or by being pushed by others.
