Chapter 1187: Chapter 1188: They’ve Gotten Used to Being Accessories

Ye Zhi said, ”I also think it’s for the best.” She paused, ”However, with fewer people, it’s also easier for us to manage and train them.”

An Jing nodded, ”Let’s take it step by step, besides, this isn’t something that can be rushed.”

”So Boss, after we recruit them, how long until we can train them?”

”Today’s already the seventeenth of October, and in just over two months we’ll be celebrating the New Year. Some places are far and travel here takes time, as does recruiting, so it’s likely we won’t be able to start training until next year.”

”It’s going to take that long...” Ye Zhi felt somewhat disappointed. She really wanted to join the military camp now.

Unable to return to the modern era, she could only find another place that could ignite her passion to stay.

An Jing couldn’t help but laugh, ”You have been a soldier before, even if not here, and you know that joining the military in the modern era isn’t immediate upon enlistment, there are many procedures to go through, all needing time. And transport and communication are less developed here, so it’s bound to take even longer.”

Ye Zhi indeed knew this, but said, ”I just want to enter the military camp as soon as possible. I really do enjoy the passionate life of the military.”

An Jing said, ”Then you’ll be in charge of preparing some of the training facilities for the women’s military camp. All these need to be ready before the training begins, and since you’re so eager to be in the camp, it’s perfect.”

Ye Zhi immediately accepted the task with delight, ”Boss, you’re really too good to me. It’s a shame, though, many modern facilities can’t be constructed here, we can only make those that are feasible.”

”We’ve already discussed this before. Just handle it according to our agreement.”

”Mhm.”

Given the limitations here, An Jing and Ye Zhi planned to combine the training methods of the military camp with some modern military training techniques when the time came to train the female soldiers.

...

Two days flew by in the blink of an eye.

This day, An Jing, Xiao Changyi, and Ye Zhi arrived at the gates of the Imperial Capital. Xiao Changyi stood to one side, while An Jing and Ye Zhi sat at a long table in front of the gates, recruiting women to join the military.

Of course, many officials and soldiers stood behind them.

This was the Imperial Court recruiting female soldiers, and without the presence of officials and soldiers, no one would believe them.

And as for Su Chengyu allowing capable women into the military, 99.9% of Xiyun’s population thought the New Emperor Su Chengyu was simply being absurd. However, out of respect for Su Chengyu as the Emperor, they only dared to think this privately and never voiced it aloud.

Seeing An Jing and Ye Zhi recruiting women soldiers, the crowd merely watched with curiosity, not a single woman coming forward to enlist.

Even though enlisting would grant each woman two taels of military salary each month, no woman came forward to sign up.

No one came forward to enlist, and without thinking, An Jing knew that long-entrenched ideologies were to blame; the belief that joining the army was a man’s affair and completely unrelated to them.

Seeing that everyone was only there to spectate and no woman came forth to enlist, Ye Zhi whispered to An Jing, ”Boss, the women here have grown accustomed to being auxiliary; they take it for granted. Look, now there’s a rare chance to improve the status of women, yet not a single one comes forward to enlist in the army, clearly preferring to remain as appendages to men.”

If not a single woman enlisted, then Su Chengyu’s regulation allowing capable women to join the military would be nothing more than a mere formality and, over time, would likely be abolished.

The deeper meaning was that: the women here had completely accepted their current status and never considered wanting any change.
