Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1166: Chapter 1167: Passionate!

An Jing was first taken aback, then couldn’t help but laugh: ”Just because he told you not to work, you stopped working?”

”Of course not. It’s because he gave the Embroidery Building’s boss a thousand taels, with just one request—that the Embroidery Building’s boss wouldn’t let me do any work there.”

An Jing was taken aback again, then laughed and exclaimed: ”Such a tycoon.”

”How does he have so much money?” Ye Zhi felt even more deflated.

An Jing said: ”He’s always been highly skilled in medicine. He charges a hefty sum every time he diagnoses someone or sells some medicines. And ever since he returned from treating the epidemic in Nan Shen, it’s as if he’s coated himself with another layer of gold. The number of people seeking him for treatments has become countless, and he took the chance to charge even more extravagantly. Naturally, his wealth has grown more and more. Of course, he’s also capricious. He actually won’t treat someone if he doesn’t like their looks. Initially, if I hadn’t said you were my sworn sister, he might not have even treated you.”

”Did you give him money when he treated me back then?”

”No, we’re all friends, he couldn’t possibly charge me.” She paused, ”Ye Zi, actually, he’s not that bad of a person.” She paused again, ”Seeing you wash so many clothes for others, him not wanting you to do that work probably means he doesn’t want you to suffer so much.”

”What?!” Ye Zhi immediately felt annoyed, ”He just wants me to hang out with him every day! He said it himself! Who knows when I’ve ever spent every day with him?! It’s obviously him pestering me all the time! It’s a miracle I haven’t been annoyed to death by him!”

As she talked, Ye Zhi’s spirits fell again: ”Boss, I’ve been duped by that Embroidery Building’s owner...”

An Jing immediately became serious: ”What happened?”

”The Embroidery Building’s boss only gives me half a tael as monthly wages.”

An Jing was very surprised: ”That little?”

Seeing An Jing’s reaction, Ye Zhi knew that Gong Juechen was not wrong and said with a bitter face: ”I didn’t know, I thought half a tael per month for odd jobs around here should be about right, so I agreed to do it. Who knew, today that guy tells me, with how prosperous the Imperial Capital is, the wage for my kind of odd jobs should be between one and a half to two taels per month.”

An Jing said: ”It should indeed be between one and a half to two taels. The cost of living in the Imperial Capital is quite high; it’s incomparable to other places.”

”That’s why I said I got duped by the Embroidery Building’s boss.” Ye Zhi’s face grew even more bitter. ”I really don’t want to live like this. Can’t people be a bit more decent? This was my first job.”

Being cheated on her first job, Ye Zhi was really feeling down at this moment.

Like An Jing, Ye Zhi, having never fought in the society outside, always stayed in the military, so at this moment, An Jing knew Ye Zhi wasn’t accustomed to this kind of life. Ye Zhi was much more comfortable with military life.

Thinking of the military, An Jing said: ”I’ve already spoken with my husband. Tomorrow, I will go into the palace to find Chengyu and discuss allowing women to join the army.”

Upon hearing this, Ye Zhi’s eyes lit up, and she said excitedly: ”I hope it works out. I really don’t want to work. If I find another job and it’s still menial labor, and if I have to spend the next few decades like this, just the thought of it feels meaningless. Being in the military is so much better. The passion! Hopefully, I can keep serving until I die!”

Some people like a tranquil life, but Ye Zhi is the exact opposite; she dislikes a mundane life. She enjoys a life that is exciting, challenging, thrilling, and can make her feel energetic.

Understanding Ye Zhi, An Jing also felt that Ye Zhi was quite suited for this passionate life. Seeing that Ye Zhi disliked living a dull life so much, she said: ”Even if women can’t join the army, I will try to get you into the military camp.”
