Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1157: Chapter 1158: What Did I Do Wrong?

At the third quarter of the Wei hour, Tobanya moved into Prince Yi’s Mansion.

Gong Juese also came to Prince Yi’s Mansion. She had come to send Tobanya, her sister-in-law, to Prince Yi’s Mansion.

When An Jing saw Gong Juese arrive, she invited her to stay for a meal, and Gong Juese readily agreed.

As darkness fell, the welcoming banquet An Jing had arranged for Tobanya to become a part of Prince Yi’s Mansion began.

There were twelve guests at the banquet, namely An Jing, Xiao Changyi, four little ones, Tobanya, Meng Zhuqing, Gong Juechen, Ye Zhi, Gong Juese, and Meng Lanqing.

Among all those present, although Xiao Changyi held the highest position, he did not speak; instead, An Jing, the hostess, addressed the gathering.

An Jing first spoke to welcome Tobanya as a new member of the family. She then urged Tobanya to make herself at home and encouraged everyone to eat and drink well.

She raised her glass to those seated, and after An Jing finished her cup of wine, the feast truly began.

As everyone knew each other well, the dining atmosphere was quite relaxed.

However, as Gong Juechen ate, he couldn’t help but notice Xiao Changyi serving dishes to An Jing, Meng Zhuqing to Tobanya, and Meng Lanqing to Gong Juese. He turned his gaze toward Ye Zhi who sat beside him.

Then, he placed a piece of pickled pepper chicken feet into Ye Zhi’s bowl as she seemed to particularly enjoy that dish.

The moment Ye Zhi saw Gong Juechen add the pickled pepper chicken feet to her bowl, she instantly recalled the incident from the day before, where she had unsuccessfully vied for the chicken feet and been accused by Gong Juechen of throwing herself at him. Anger flared within her once again.

She refused to eat the chicken feet Gong Juechen had offered her and even picked it up and threw it away.

Seeing Ye Zhi throw away the chicken feet, Gong Juechen’s face fell, and he said with apparent distress, ”Zhizhi, even if you don’t want to eat it, don’t just throw it away; give it back to me, I actually quite like eating it.”

Ye Zhi said nothing but gave him a stern look, her message was clear: she wanted Gong Juechen to shut up because silence doesn’t make him a mute.

But Gong Juechen was not so compliant. Seeing Ye Zhi glaring at him, he pretended not to understand her silent communication, and with a sorrowful look said, ”What did I do wrong? It was you, Zhizhi, who approached me first. Why are you the one who’s angry? You have been upset since last night and are still upset now...”

Ye Zhi glared at him again, her expression threatening further violence if he spoke again.

But Gong Juechen continued to speak, ”Zhizhi, even if you regret giving yourself to me, you shouldn’t treat me this way. I’m actually—”

Before Gong Juechen could finish, Ye Zhi angrily put down her chopsticks, stood up, and looked ready to hit him.

Gong Juese, who sat on the other side of Gong Juechen, saw Ye Zhi’s intent to strike her brother and burst into anger herself. Abruptly rising to her feet, she stepped in front of her brother, faced off against Ye Zhi, and shouted, ”Ye, do you think you can just hit my brother Gong Juese whenever you want?!”

Gong Juechen also stood up and gently pulled on his sister’s clothes, ”Se Se, brother is fine, I’m not afraid of being hit.”

Without a second thought, Gong Juese snapped back, ”I don’t care whether you’re afraid or not; in my presence, no one is allowed to hit you.”

Gong Juechen whispered very softly, ”Your husband keeps hitting me in front of you and you... just stand by and watch.”

Gong Juese was speechless...

After a moment of silence, she cleared her throat and then said, ”Brother, you said he’s my husband now. Can my husband really be compared to this outsider? Anyway, I won’t let outsiders hit you!”
