Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1165: Chapter 1166 I Just Want to...

”What?” Ye Zhi didn’t understand why he suddenly acted like this.

Gong Juechen hesitated again before finally saying, ”You must have been tricked by the Embroidery Building’s owner. Here in the bustling Imperial Capital, your monthly salary should be at least 1.5 to 2 taels, not just half a tael.”

Ye Zhi: ”...”

Thinking that Ye Zhi didn’t believe him, Gong Juechen continued, ”In some small towns, the daily wage can reach 15 coins. If you don’t believe it, you can ask Jingjing. The Sixteen Town where Jingjing lived was so small compared to the Imperial Capital, yet the wage there was also 15 coins.”

Ye Zhi: ”...”

Gong Juechen continued, ”The owner of the Embroidery Building must have seen that you are not from the Imperial Capital and didn’t understand the local rates. Plus, you were eager to find a job, so you fell into her trap.”

Originally, Gong Juechen was indeed planning to give that thousand taels to the Embroidery Building’s owner, but when Ye Zhi threw the thousand-tael silver note in his face and told him her monthly wage was only half a tael, he realized that the Embroidery Building’s owner was exploiting her. Therefore, he felt he was already conscientious enough by not punishing that Embroidery Building’s owner, let alone giving the thousand taels to her.

Ye Zhi had never worked in modern times. Here, she found her first job ever, which was to do miscellaneous tasks at the Embroidery Building. Initially, she had told An Jing that she would work there, but she never mentioned how much she would be paid monthly, leading to her being unknowingly swindled.

Now that she was aware, Ye Zhi felt really bad inside.

Initially, Ye Zhi wanted to confront the owner of the Embroidery Building, but then she thought back to when the owner offered her half a tael per month and she agreed without objection because she truly didn’t know what the wages should be here, and she was desperate for a job to support herself... With that in mind, Ye Zhi decided to let it go and not pursue the matter with the Embroidery Building’s owner any further.

Experience is the best teacher. From now on, she wouldn’t fall for such tricks again.

”Even though I was tricked, you still have to give me those 30 coins,” Ye Zhi said.

Seeing that Ye Zhi wasn’t too upset about being fooled by the Embroidery Building’s owner, Gong Juechen felt slightly relieved.

”Don’t mention 30 coins, even if you asked for 300,000 taels, I would give them to you,” Gong Juechen said generously.

”I don’t want 300,000 taels, I just want the 30 coins!” Ye Zhi insisted as she turned and walked back towards Prince Yi’s Mansion. She had indeed worked for two days, it wouldn’t be fair if she didn’t earn a single coin.

”Alright, alright, 30 coins it is. I’ll give you 30 coins when we get back. I don’t have coins on me right now, only silver notes,” Gong Juechen said affectionately, following beside her.

But Ye Zhi thought Gong Juechen was just showing off his wealth, and continued walking forward while giving him a glare.

Gong Juechen, not understanding why, happily continued to follow Ye Zhi.

Upon returning to Prince Yi’s Mansion, Ye Zhi asked Gong Juechen to go to his quarters and bring her the 30 coins, while she went to the main courtyard to find An Jing.

An Jing and Xiao Changyi were arranging flowers with four little ones. Seeing Ye Zhi come in, An Jing smiled and asked, ”Weren’t you off to earn money? Why have you come back? And you look so downcast.”

Ye Zhi found a spot to sit and said weakly, ”Boss, I lost the job at the Embroidery Building. That fool, Gong Juechen, followed me and saw me washing a huge pile of clothes, then wouldn’t let me continue working.”
