Chapter 1185: Chapter 1186: What’s the Intention

An Jing glared at him: ”So, you’re always talking nonsense like this?”

”Yes.” Gong Juechen readily responded, indeed. That expression, that tone, really seemed especially deserving of a beatdown.

An Jing’s hand suddenly felt itchy.

Fearing that she might actually start hitting someone, An Jing turned around and left, not wanting to deal with Gong Juechen anymore.

...

Ye Zhi only woke up in the dead of night.

The room was already lit, but only one oil lamp was burning, and it was the one far from her.

That oil lamp wasn’t very bright, making the room look extremely dim.

However, even though the visibility wasn’t great, she could still make out the general layout of the room.

Then, she saw him—Gong Juechen was fast asleep on the desk in her room.

Seeing Gong Juechen, Ye Zhi was a bit stunned, not reacting immediately, but after a moment, she got up, casually draped a coat over herself, and walked over. With a slap, she smacked the back of Gong Juechen’s head.

As she woke up Gong Juechen, she asked in annoyance: ”Why are you still in my room?”

Gong Juechen, rubbing his sore head, said with a sense of grievance: ”Isn’t it because I’m worried about you... You’ve been asleep and hadn’t woken up, I was afraid something might happen, so I stayed here to watch over you...”

”I was fine,” Ye Zhi sat down on the stool next to her, picked up the teapot on the table, and poured herself a cup of tea. ”I was just overly tired and slept heavily. There’s nothing wrong, you can go now.” She unceremoniously ordered him to leave.

Gong Juechen did not leave, but instead asked with a mischievous smile, ”How do you feel now?”

Ye Zhi still felt quite sore, but it was much better compared to the daytime. She wasn’t sure if it was due to the sleep she had or the acupuncture, so she honestly said: ”Still pretty sore, but much better than earlier in the day.”

”I’ll give you another session of acupuncture when it’s light out, and after resting for two or three more days, you should be able to recover.”

Considering the acupuncture wasn’t too painful, Ye Zhi agreed: ”Mm.”

”You’ve slept for so long without eating, you must be hungry now. I’ll go to the kitchen and bring you something to eat.” Saying so, Gong Juechen was about to stand up and head to the kitchen.

But Ye Zhi held him back, eyeing him with suspicion and wariness, ”Why are you so eager? What’s your ulterior motive?” She almost believed that he was truly concerned about her.

Gong Juechen first glanced at her hand grabbing his arm, then quickly clasped it with a playful smile, ”Of course, I do have an ulterior motive, and my motive is you.”

Seeing Gong Juechen being so flippant again, Ye Zhi really wanted to give him another smack: ”If you keep spouting nonsense, I’ll definitely slap you.”

Gong Juechen stopped talking, only looking at Ye Zhi with a particularly aggrieved expression. Of course, the two hands he held onto became even tighter and he couldn’t help but rub Ye Zhi’s hand.

He inwardly marveled at how small his wife’s hand was. Much smaller than his own.

Ye Zhi watched coldly as Gong Juechen played with her hand, and seeing that Gong Juechen was still cluelessly fiddling, she fiercely withdrew her hand and said irritably, ”Didn’t you say you were going to prepare something for me to eat? Hurry up and go!”

”Oh, then wait for me.” Saying so, Gong Juechen scampered out, in an exceedingly hurried manner.

Sitting sideways, Ye Zhi watched Gong Juechen disappear from sight before turning her gaze away, looking down at her hand which Gong Juechen had just held, now resting on the table. She couldn’t help but feel her face and ears burning hot.
