Chapter 1164: Chapter 1165: Not Insulting You, It’s the Fact

After waiting for a while and seeing that Ye Zhi was still facing away from him with the back of her head, Gong Juechen spoke again: ”Didn’t you say you’d throw me into a dung pit if I irritate you again? Why don’t you just throw me in? As long as you’re not angry, whatever happens to me doesn’t matter.”

Ye Zhi immediately turned her head and glared at him furiously: ”Are you bringing that up now because you want me to throw up what I just ate?!”

”No, not at all,” Gong Juechen said with a look of being wronged, ”I just want you not to be angry. I really feel for you...”

”Get lost!” Ye Zhi didn’t believe a word of Gong Juechen’s cheesy speech, ”Believing you, now that would be a joke!”

”Isn’t there supposed to be a joke?” Gong Juechen looked puzzled as if she was always saying strange things.

Ye Zhi didn’t believe in ghosts and spirits. Hearing Gong Juechen’s words, she only then remembered that she was now living in an era where people believed in ghosts and spirits.

Despite a sudden jolt in her heart, as if something has been spilled, Ye Zhi still kept a calm facade: ”You’ve driven me crazy with anger! What I mean is that I don’t believe you! Not a single word! Even my Boss said that nine out of ten things you say are lies.”

Gong Juechen immediately nodded like mad: ”Yes, yes, nine out of ten things I say are lies, but there is one true thing, and that is how I cherish you.”

Ye Zhi looked askance in an instant: ”Don’t carelessly omit words, what you cherish is clearly my face!”

”Ah,” Gong Juechen suddenly looked pleasantly surprised, ”So you not only want me to fancy your face but also to like you as a person. Alright then, I do quite like you as a person. So, can we get married now?”

Ye Zhi stood up and left.

Gong Juechen wanted to leave too but was stopped by the steamed bun shop owner: ”Sir, you and that other patron haven’t paid for your steamed buns yet.”

In a hurry to chase after Ye Zhi and with no copper coins on him, Gong Juechen took out a ten-tael silver ingot and handed it to the owner, saying: ”Keep the change.”

The steamed bun shop owner stared blankly at the silver ingot in his hand, shocked by the unexpected windfall, not coming to his senses for a long while.

Having given the money to the steamed bun shop owner, Gong Juechen was about to chase after Ye Zhi when he saw her standing ten paces away, glaring furiously at him.

”Spendthrift!” It was clear that Ye Zhi had heard Gong Juechen say not to worry about the change.

After scolding Gong Juechen with these three words, she turned and continued walking forward.

When Gong Juechen caught up to Ye Zhi, he asked, puzzled: ”Zhizhi, I paid for your steamed buns, why are you still scolding me?”

Ye Zhi refused to admit it: ”I’m not scolding you; I’m stating a fact.”

Then she remembered something and became angry again: ”I worked at the Embroidery Building for two days and was supposed to be paid wages for two days. It’s all your fault for making me so angry that I forgot to ask the Embroidery Building’s Boss for the money!”

Gong Juechen didn’t seem to think it was a big deal: ”Then let’s go back and ask her for it.”

”I don’t want to go back, and since it’s your fault, you should pay my wages for those two days. My monthly salary is half a tael, so that’s about seventeen coins a day, thirty-four coins for two days. Just now, you paid four coins for my two buns, so you only need to give me thirty coins. Hurry up, hand it over, thirty coins, not one less!” Saying so, Ye Zhi stopped in her tracks and stretched out a hand towards Gong Juechen, looking as though she was asking him for money.

Gong Juechen appeared to be struggling to speak, ”Zhizhi, there’s something, I’m not sure if I should tell you...”
