Chapter 1170: Chapter 1171: Should I Go Instead?

Su Chengyu finally stated more directly, ”Find a few highly skilled female martial artists to compete with the military generals. As long as they win, those generals will accept it. They might be displeased inwardly, but they will still agree to my proposal.”

An Jing and Xiao Changyi exchanged a glance, both finding the strategy feasible in their eyes.

Then, An Jing asked, ”Will three be enough?”

One was too few to convince the crowd, but three would be different. If three women could defeat the military generals, it would be enough to make those generals think twice about underestimating women.

”That will do,” Chengyu felt that too many would prolong the competition unnecessarily, while too few wouldn’t be persuasive enough; three was just right.

”Then, which three generals do you plan to dispatch for the competition?” An Jing inquired further. Only by knowing oneself and the enemy can one be assured to win every battle.

Su Chengyu replied, ”General Xu from Tiger Camp, General Qi from Leopard Camp, and General Liu from Wolf Camp. They each have a certain prestige within the military.”

An Jing didn’t inquire further about the martial prowess of these three generals, planning instead to consult her husband, believing that he would know better than Su Chengyu.

”When do you plan to have them compete?” An Jing continued asking.

Su Chengyu said, ”It depends on when you and Brother Yi find three highly skilled female martial artists to compete against them. Let me know once you have them ready, and I will order them to enter the city and join the competition.”

”All right, we will inform you once we’ve found them,” An Jing replied readily.

Seeing how An Jing responded, Su Chengyu chuckled and said with a hint of exasperation, ”If the civil and military officials learn of this, they are sure to lodge their objections.”

An Jing laughed, ”You are the ruler of the nation. If you insist, their objections will be of no consequence.”

Su Chengyu sighed with a smile, ”If I didn’t advocate for valuing talent and skills, I would have never agreed to yours and Brother Yi’s proposal.”

An Jing responded, ”Looking at it from a long-term perspective, it’s a beneficial move.”

Su Chengyu nodded, ”I know, if not, I wouldn’t have proposed valuing talent and skills in the first place.”

An Jing genuinely admired Su Chengyu for his vision and insight as a native of this land.

...

Upon returning from the palace, An Jing and Xiao Changyi discussed which three women would compete against the three generals.

An Jing didn’t immediately suggest candidates, but instead asked Xiao Changyi, ”How skilled are those three generals?”

Xiao Changyi had exchanged blows with Generals Xu, Qi, and Liu before and was well aware of their capabilities. Once An Jing asked, he replied, ”All three are skilled. General Xu excels in swordsmanship and his skills rank among the top ten in the military; General Qi specializes in unarmed combat with immense strength; General Liu is proficient with the red tassel spear.”

An Jing suggested, ”Then we can have Se Se help in competing against General Xu. Se Se’s swordsmanship is quite excellent, she should be able to win, right?”

Xiao Changyi confirmed with certainty, ”Yes.”

An Jing was overjoyed, then pondered, ”As for General Qi who has great strength... how about I do it? I am quite strong myself.”

Xiao Changyi expressed his dissatisfaction, ”You’ve said before that you wouldn’t think of competing with others.”

An Jing replied, ”I haven’t forgotten. It’s just that there’s no one else suitable, which is why I thought of stepping in myself.”

In fact, An Jing had thought of Tobanya, but her martial skills weren’t high enough, and this competition only allowed victory. She couldn’t just let anyone step in, potentially squandering this opportunity for women to gain a little recognition.
