Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 820: Chapter 501: Look at It, Doesn’t It Seem Like...

After jumping into the pit, which was fifty or sixty meters deep, Xu Xin and Keke were surprised to find that this pit was bigger than they had imagined.

Xu Xin truly didn’t expect that below ground, just a few hundred meters away from his treehouse, there would be such a hidden...

Ruins?

”There are so many bugs here...” Lou Fei’Er couldn’t help but complain.

She walked cautiously.

Now, inside the pit, there were bugs everywhere, a dense mass of darkness.

Fortunately, now in the pit, there were basically only crawling bugs; the number of flying insects was very small.

Perhaps it’s because flying insects move much faster than crawling bugs, so they all flew away following that giant bug from before.

The slower crawlers that entered the pit later stayed behind in this cave.

Now, Xu Xin and Lou Fei’Er stood in the middle of this mass of bugs, with no crawlers within about a one-meter radius around them.

He tried to take two steps forward.

Immediately, the bugs around them started to scatter away with his movements, maintaining a one-meter clearance around them.

Not a single bug was willing to get close to the two of them.

”Sister Xuefei’s repellent liquid works wonders!” Lou Fei’Er exclaimed in surprise, letting out a long breath.

She was really afraid of bugs climbing onto her.

Xu Xin nodded: ”With this, it makes our actions much more convenient.”

Actually, even on the surface earlier, the bugs would dodge their steps. From an individual perspective, these bugs were still too weak. Humans, to a single bug, are like giants, so it makes sense for them to avoid us.

But at that time, only the spot where you stepped would be free of bugs, and the scatter range was only as big as a footprint.

Now, with bugs avoiding a full meter around them, it was indeed much more comfortable.

At least they weren’t afraid of stepping on too many bugs and angering the swarm into attacking.

”Squeak!” Keke, who was perched on Xu Xin’s shoulder, also understood the situation, jumped down, and tentatively took two steps forward.

A blank space immediately appeared around it as well.

”Squeak squeak!” Keke was instantly not afraid anymore.

”Why are these bugs staying in this pit?” As Lou Fei’Er walked forward, the insect swarm scattered wherever she went, making her feel amused, ”Didn’t they burrow out of the ground? They should be able to go underground, right?”

”Who knows?” Xu Xin observed the surroundings carefully and said casually, ”Maybe that giant bug ran away too fast; these bugs didn’t know where it went, so they had to stay here.”

”Ha, that’s really possible.” Lou Fei’Er jumped forward, the bugs on the ground quickly spreading out. Then she turned to look at Xu Xin and smiled, ”So, my master, how did you know that the giant bug would run away?”

Once she relaxed, she started joking again.

Xu Xin glanced at her and continued to observe around: ”I already said, it’s a secret.”

”Right, you didn’t even tell Wenxi, how could you possibly tell me.” Lou Fei’Er pursed her lips and shrugged.

”Alright, take a close look around, see if there’s another path here. Zeng Tao and the others should be below us.”

”Oh, okay, then I’ll check that side.” Lou Fei’Er was ready to head in another direction immediately.

”Come back, don’t split up.” Xu Xin frowned, ”You want to go missing too?”

”Oh, okay...” She quickly obeyed and followed Xu Xin closely.

Currently, the pit was not easy to explore.

Because, while originally there were many broken ruins visible from above, the number of bugs was overwhelming.

Not only the ground, but everything was covered with bugs.

Even the ancient stone-carved statue that Xu Xin had seen before was now crawling with bugs, completely obscuring the features of the human face carved into it.

Nothing could be seen.

Moreover, these bugs weren’t just crawling on top, they even emitted faint gnawing sounds.

”Squeak... crunch...”

It seemed like soon these bugs would be able to gnaw everything here beyond recognition.

The pit wasn’t small; the area below was about half the size of a football field, entirely covered in black bugs.

The two of them could basically see nothing, with only a swarming blackness wherever they looked.

The rock walls of the pit were also densely packed with black beetles, and it seemed there were no caves to enter.

Looking around, they couldn’t find any other passage, it seemed to be just a pit.

”... Let’s go have a look at that human-faced stone statue.”

The two immediately walked towards the large statue about twenty meters away from them.

Though the statue was covered in bugs, such a large object standing there was still very conspicuous.

Arriving before the statue, the bugs on its face immediately scattered, some crawling down, some to the back, and some to the top, revealing the statue’s face in an instant.

Even though the statue was just a head, a face, it was four or five meters tall; Xu Xin’s height barely reached the nose of the statue.

”This stone carving feels very ancient...” Lou Fei’Er reached out to touch it, ”Feels like something from thousands of years ago.”

The carving indeed gave off a vibe reminiscent of thousands of years ago in Ancient Egypt on Earth.

The face of the carving was already somewhat blurred, and even looking up close, its features weren’t very clear.
