Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 816: Chapter 499: This Giant Bug Is Actually Kind of Cute

”I told you, just trust me.” Xu Xin said with a smile.

”You, this guy, don’t have some kind of ability to control giant creatures, do you?” Li Wenxi asked suspiciously, ”Otherwise, why did the opponent retreat despite having such an advantage? Did you control them?”

”Congratulations, you guessed wrong.”

”...Hmph!”

At this moment, the survivors in the treehouse were also cheering excitedly.

”Whoa, this scene is too intense!”

”Is there any way we can record this scene? I want to share it with survivors all over the world!”

”Swarm retreat!”

”So powerful... truly overwhelming...”

”This place is practically the safest in the world!”

”Plus, there’s constant excitement every day!”

Within a minute, all the insect swarms that emerged from the ground had flown or crawled into the pit.

And that giant insect had already turned its head and burrowed underground right after letting out a roar.

As it tunneled, it made sounds of gnawing on soil and rocks. Obviously, it was using its massive mouth to devour dirt and dig!

This guy is really like a giant earthworm...

It left one last remark.

”Next time I return... I’ll bring a stronger insect army! If not for...”

Then, Xu Xin couldn’t hear anything else.

The giant insect had moved beyond the range of heart-reading, and the voice in his mind stopped.

This creature sure moves fast.

It seems, though it is of a high level, its abilities are not reflected in combat.

Its ability should be controlling the swarm.

Looking at it this way, the mutation direction of this giant insect is not physical but similar to Qin Fu’s, a spiritual mutation, allowing it to control the swarm through a roar.

But since the insects this time are all small ones, mindless enough to throw themselves at fire uncontrollably, its ability to control the swarm seems somewhat insignificant.

If, as it said, it brings a stronger swarm, like...

The kind from the underground world.

That would be too powerful.

However...

Xu Xin couldn’t help but laugh again.

The final thoughts of this insect always gave him a feeling of ”I will be back.”

It didn’t seem like it was under control itself.

Considering its gigantic size and its previously conveyed thoughts, Xu Xin had more or less figured it out.

This was a giant insect possessing the bloodline of a giant beast and had undergone the Blood Pattern mutation.

Such creatures, the Blood Pattern Race has still been unable to control.

Otherwise, there would never be a place like the underground world prison.

So, this giant insect was likely just here to help, as he just thought.

But when this kind of thing happened, it believed its life was threatened and naturally wouldn’t sacrifice itself like other mutated creatures.

Moreover, with its Spiritual Power mutation, it must be much smarter. The higher the intelligence, the more it considers, and naturally, it fled directly.

This allowed them to easily resolve this situation.

”Is... is something funny?” Lou Fei’Er, who hadn’t spoken before, joked, ”You almost lost me...”

”...? What do you mean?” Xu Xin turned to her, ”Weren’t you just overwhelmed by a higher level?”

”...Not exactly the same.”

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to speak earlier; she simply couldn’t.

When the giant insect lit up with red light all over just now, she felt an inexplicable attraction from it, which made her instinctively want to get closer.

But she resisted.

And later, when the red light shone brightly on the giant insect, she almost gave in.

She felt that she was going to be controlled by that roar!

Fortunately, she clutched Xu Xin’s arm tightly with one hand and pinched her own thigh hard with the other, barely holding on.

Only when the giant insect retreated did she truly breathe a sigh of relief and say that sentence.

”This is too terrifying!” On the other side, Li Wenxi said with lingering fear, ”Almost got controlled! Xu Xin, you must quickly enhance their Spiritual Power!”

”So that’s how it is...” Xu Xin narrowed his eyes slightly and then nodded, ”Looks like indeed we need to speed up the enhancement of your Spiritual Power. The amount of Spiritual Power potions needs to be increased in the future.”

”Uh... I don’t know if I can handle it...” Lou Fei’Er whispered.

”Okay, let’s go over and take a look. Those three should still be down there.”

The two immediately rode the Silver King to the edge of the giant pit and looked down.

”Ew—” Lou Fei’Er uttered a sound of disgust.

Below, a large patch of soil looked as if it had been plowed, very loose.

This should be the spot where the giant insect dug in to escape.

But...

The swarm didn’t seem to have entirely kept up with the speed of the giant insect.

This resulted in the large pit below being covered with crawling and flying insects.

Even those relic statues were crawling with insects.

It’s truly hard to make one’s way in there.

What do we do now?

Just then, Xu Xin’s watch vibrated.

He raised his hand to see a message from Ji Chaoyang.

”Xu Xin, what’s happening on your end? Someone here saw the firelight from your side, did something happen?”

”Xuefei’s insect repellent potion is complete; it works well. Let me know if you need it.”

He was probably afraid of disturbing Xu Xin, so he didn’t use voice communication.

But...

The insect repellent potion is complete!

That’s just perfect!
