Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 804: Chapter 495: Cracked Open

At this moment, the egg in his arms jumped the most eagerly.

It seems that although the giant egg prefers the outside temperature of around seventy degrees over the indoor temperature of twenty degrees, seventy degrees is still too hot.

Compared to the outside seventy degrees, it prefers a temperature around fifty degrees.

At this moment, under Xu Xin’s feet is the newly opened entrance that continues downwards.

He slid down with the giant egg.

The temperature on this second level is already below forty degrees.

About thirty-five or thirty-six degrees; compared to outside, this is already a very suitable temperature.

Hmm...

When he first came, he was concerned about the temperature; now it seems...

For other survivors, digging holes on the ground and living in those holes seems... also a good way to escape the heat?

It depends on whether they can think of it.

At least he himself hadn’t thought of this method.

However, this method also has its drawbacks—namely, one can hardly see what’s happening on the ground.

If something happens to the treehouse, people below might not know.

In his arms, the giant egg snuggled back towards its original direction, clearly not liking it here, feeling that above was more comfortable.

It seems better to take it back up.

Meanwhile, three pangolins are also lying inside the cave.

The two young pangolins have grown larger; it won’t be long before they are bigger than Concubine Love.

But they are still asleep now, not waking up.

Concubine Love is awake.

Seeing Xu Xin coming down and bringing an egg, Concubine Love got up and crawled over, softly making a sound.

”Concubine Love, this egg is about to hatch; I’ll place it in your nest one level up, where the temperature is suitable for it.”

The giant egg in his arms rolled out of Xu Xin’s embrace onto the ground, its hard shell hitting the ground unharmed, as if the crack that appeared wasn’t actually there.

The giant egg rolled to Concubine Love’s front, touching it with its egg body, as if saying hello.

Coming out of the ground hole, Xu Xin surveyed the surroundings.

The fire-seeking insects are becoming fewer and fewer.

But not because the insects have learned, but because around here the insects have basically all been eliminated.

So, though not knowing if they will stop seeking fire later, at least for now, these foolish insects aren’t worth worrying about.

Returning to the treehouse, Xu Xin sent Qin Fu a voice message.

The voice was connected almost immediately.

”What’s the situation on your side? Why do I see you just wandering around there?” Xu Xin asked.

Since earlier, Qin Fu’s red dot has been hovering at a position seven to eight hundred meters away from here.

It’s been a while, and no one knows what he’s doing there.

”Boss, it’s strange here. I’m sure there’s truly something abnormal, but... it seems this entire region is quite abnormal,” Qin Fu’s muffled voice came through.

He was still among the insect swarm, covering himself tightly.

”What do you mean, all are abnormal?” Hearing this, Xu Xin’s heart skipped a beat.

That’s not a good thing.

”That’s right. I can feel it; the trees and plants here, they have some kind of anomaly, as if they’re somewhat sickly.”

That place is already near a thousand meters from where Xu Xin is.

Therefore, the insects there are relatively fewer; at least on the map, only certain areas show a faint Red Mist, with most areas’ Red Mist hardly visible.

Sickly trees?

”Their sickliness, isn’t it due to insect infestation?”

”No,” Qin Fu immediately replied, ”It can’t be. Because only this area is like this, and only this area is problematic. These trees give me the feeling that there’s... an unclean presence here. Sigh... I’m kind of reluctant to keep searching; how about I go back?”

Qin Fu wanted to give up.

An unclean presence, huh.

Sounds like seeing a ghost.

”...Try walking fifty meters in the northwest direction.”

”Northwest? Okay, I’ll try. What’s over there?” Qin Fu asked as he walked.

Xu Xin was just going by intuition, because the Red Mist on the map is denser there.

”I’ve walked through here before; there shouldn’t be anything. Hmm?”

”What is it? Did you find something?”

”The ground here has softened?” Qin Fu’s puzzled voice came through.

Under a thick tree, Qin Fu, wrapped tightly, squats down to touch the ground.

Indeed, it’s soft.

Compared to other places where the dense jungle has been dried into hard chunks by the scorching sun, this place is truly abnormal.

More importantly, when he had walked this area before, it wasn’t like this.

He stood up and took two steps forward, then...

The ground suddenly gave way.

”I...”

He directly sank into the soft soil and then disappeared.
