Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 346: Chapter 278 Beast Tide Approaches Strange Phenomenon (4,000 words)

”What crisis?” Xu Xin put down the control panel in his hand and asked.

He knew that this second phase was definitely not just about the cold winter.

”In my prophecy, I saw not only ice and snow but also beasts appearing,” Ji Chaoyang’s voice became somewhat heavy, ”and not just ordinary beasts, but mutant beasts!”

His words sent a chill through Xu Xin’s heart: ”After the winter descends, are the beasts in the jungle all coming back? Will there also be wild mutant beasts appearing?”

Aside from those giant beasts and the monsters guarding the gold treasure chests, Xu Xin had never seen wild mutant creatures active on the ground.

The Blood Pattern Rabbit and Blood Patterned Cat were summoned from the altar, and the Blood-striped Marlin emerged from a vortex; none were ordinary beasts.

”...It’s not just a return; those beasts are numerous, very numerous. It’s like... the beast tide we experienced the first time.” Ji Chaoyang said while eating something, presumably an orange that restores spiritual power.

”You mean we might be facing a wave of... mutant beast tide?” Xu Xin was silent for a moment, then asked.

”That’s right, that’s what I mean. The beast tide might come again, and this time the enemies are much stronger than last time.”

Beast tide...

The last beast tide was the first event after the novice protection zone ended, and it was also their first disaster. During that beast tide, the average death rate across all regions exceeded 30%, marking the activity with the highest casualties.

It was a harsh blow to all survivors right at the beginning.

And this time, the beast tide has appeared after a few days of calm.

Xu Xin suddenly realized that including today, it’s been three consecutive days without any happenings.

And last time, the novice protection period was also three days.

Could it be that these three days are actually the protection period for the second phase?

After these three days, the true start of the second phase, the real disaster is going to occur?

Very likely.

However, now the survivors are no longer those who knew nothing just past the novice protection period. They can now face the beast tide head-on.

But relatively, this beast tide is also definitely much stronger than the last.

Xu Xin glanced at the lake outside the window, feeling a chill in his heart.

During the last beast tide, the Lake Giant Python appeared from the lake, causing him to feel icy cold from fear at that time.

That was his first encounter with the terrifying giant beast of this world.

If it’s a beast tide again this time, the Lake Giant Python might return!

...Let’s hope it doesn’t attack the treehouse.

As long as the giant beast does not act, at least he himself is not in danger, and instead, the plant heart could attack and absorb freely.

”By the way, how did you see the new prophetic scene? You can only see one scene, right?” Xu Xin was a bit puzzled, ”Didn’t you say before that a new prophecy can’t proceed until the previous one is fulfilled?”

”Indeed it is one scene, just with extended time,” Ji Chaoyang explained, ”Last time in Qi Xuefei’s treehouse, that prophecy lasted only about ten seconds, but if I’m back in my own treehouse, in my prophecy room, the prophetic duration extends a bit.”

”Prophecy room? That sounds quite impressive.” Xu Xin raised an eyebrow, it seemed mysterious.

”It’s my special function area, most of my decoration points are on it. Today I made some more decorations, increasing the prophecy room’s effect to a new height, allowing me to see these scenes,” Ji Chaoyang’s voice was somewhat helpless, ”It really exhausts decoration points.”

Just like his alchemy room, it consumes enhancement points. It seems that special ability function areas require a high demand for decoration enhancement points.

”In Qi Xuefei’s treehouse, my ability could only last for about ten seconds, but in the prophecy room, I can foresee for almost a minute,” Ji Chaoyang explained.

”During the last few seconds of that minute, I saw countless beasts and mutant beasts emerge from trees laden with snow, as if they had been ambushed there early on. Around the treehouse, they instantly surrounded it with beasts. And... was I mistaken...”

Ji Chaoyang’s voice suddenly became hesitant, unsure whether to speak.

”What’s wrong?”

”At the end of the prophecy, I seemed to see... humans?”

Humans?

Xu Xin felt a chill in his heart: ”What do you mean? Are you saying there are humans amidst the beast tide?”

”Not ordinary humans, um... not necessarily humans either, covered in fur head to toe, with blood patterns across their bodies, walking upright and holding tools... not like chimpanzees, maybe a special animal of this world?” Ji Chaoyang was not entirely sure, ”I’ve tried multiple prophecies to observe clearly, but each time they flash by just as it is about to end, leaving me only a few distant silhouettes, making it hard to see the full appearance.”

Covered in fur, with blood patterns over their bodies...

Xu Xin lightly inhaled a cold breath.

He thought of those first batch of survivors in the dungeon forcibly mutated by Chang Yin and his team using mutant potions.

Weren’t they all covered in fur with blood patterns over their bodies?

Are they truly humans? Mutated humans?

And they are using tools...

”What were the tools they were holding?” Xu Xin asked immediately.

”They seemed to be axes, but I couldn’t see very clearly, so it’s not a hundred percent certain,” Ji Chaoyang replied.
