Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 314: Chapter 262 Alchemy Potion, Drink More Hot Water_2

The ability that is permanent is much more reassuring than the one gained from taking medicine. Even though he now has so many red berries that he can’t finish them all.

He drank the [Spiritual Potion] and [Stamina Potion] again. A chilly sensation roamed in his brain and body. Having used three potions consecutively, Xu Xin felt a trace of coldness arising within him.

The coldness gradually swept over his entire body, causing Xu Xin to shiver and exhale a frosty breath.

”...What’s going on? This kind of potion can’t be taken continuously?”

The room’s temperature was over twenty degrees, and he was still wearing the purple-grade Scale Armor. Normally, he shouldn’t feel cold. It was definitely a side effect of the potion.

Whether it was the pervasive coldness or the effect of the Spiritual Potion, his brain was exceptionally clear, but his body felt unusually cold and uncomfortable. The clear mind made him feel the penetrating cold even more acutely.

”Phew...” Xu Xin felt that even the air he exhaled was cold.

This alchemical potion cannot be used continuously!

Ignoring the changes in spirit and stamina, Xu Xin hurried to the fireplace to warm himself.

The Silver King and Mimi were now crouched in front of the fireplace. Xu Xin directly squeezed between the two beasts, simultaneously feeling the warmth from the fireplace flames and the body heat of the Silver King Mimi.

”Howl?”

”...Meow!”

After Xu Xin squeezed in, both the Silver King and Mimi initially had no response, then suddenly jumped away from him.

They could both feel the continuous cold emanating from Xu Xin’s body, making them uncomfortable, prompting them to immediately distance themselves from him.

Xu Xin immediately leaned closer to the fireplace, but it did not alleviate the cold inside his body.

He felt like a refrigerator with its door closed on a hot day—no matter how hot it was outside, it was still very cold inside.

A misstep.

The potion’s description didn’t mention that it couldn’t be used continuously...

This was probably his own issue.

His body constitution might not yet withstand taking the potion three times consecutively.

Xu Xin exhaled cold breath, his body trembling slightly from the cold, regretting his recklessness a bit.

Fortunately, this coldness did not continue to deepen and did not last too long either.

After about a quarter of an hour, the bone-chilling cold suddenly receded like a tide.

His body was instantly permeated with the warmth from the furnace, making Xu Xin feel comfortable all over.

”Phew...” He let out a sigh of relief and stood up.

It finally ended. Potion usage must not be continuous in the future.

However... the consequence wasn’t very severe. Next time, he could experiment a little to see how long the interval needed to be before using the second potion.

Why not let Lou Fei’Er be the experimental subject?

...Forget it, she’s also one of my people now. And she’s a mutated creature, considerably different from ordinary survivors. Using her for potion experiments doesn’t make practical sense, as the reactions could be very different.

However, she could be used for experiments related to mutated creatures since she can communicate precisely and describe her feelings clearly, allowing Xu Xin to understand the condition of the experimental subject better.

Xu Xin suddenly felt that his thought process was somewhat villainous.

...Well, let’s discuss it again when the need arises in the future.

Xu Xin got up and sensed changes in Spiritual Power and stamina, but he didn’t feel anything very obvious.

After resisting the cold for more than ten minutes, currently, in terms of Spiritual Power and stamina, he was even worse off than before. Both his mind and body were a bit fatigued.

However, these two potions are supposed to increase the maximum limits of Spiritual Power and stamina. He couldn’t perceive these limits as they were quite vague.

Oh well, let it be for now. Hopefully, the effects of these two potions weren’t lost due to his recklessness.

Xu Xin returned to the alchemy room, crafted a vision potion, and initiated a trade with Qi Xuefei.

Qi Xuefei must have still been studying some drug, as she took a moment to agree to the trade and sent him a voice call.

”Is this one of your alchemical potions? Vision potion, can it cure my nearsightedness?” Qi Xuefei’s voice carried a hint of surprise, not expecting Xu Xin to have this type of potion.

In this world, she’s suffered quite a lot due to nearsightedness.

Not just for Ma Hongyu’s event, but during any prior activities, such as the jungle hunting activities, dungeon exploration activities, etc., her nearsightedness caused her a lot of trouble. After all, she had to get close to things to see them clearly, seriously impairing exploration and hunting.

If it could be cured, that would be wonderful.

”It should be possible, Sister Xuefei, you can use it now,” Xu Xin replied. ”Don’t worry, I’ve already used it myself. As long as it’s not used consecutively, there are no side effects.”

”Great!”

Xu Xin heard the sound of it being downed in one go from the other side, followed by a somewhat uncomfortable groan.

He frowned and asked, ”What’s wrong, any discomfort?”

”Well...” Qi Xuefei’s voice indeed sounded a bit uncomfortable but still carried thick surprise, ”My vision has really improved a lot! I can finally see things far away more clearly!”

Xu Xin raised his eyebrows, ”So, the nearsightedness is cured?”

”Well, not entirely,” Qi Xuefei took a slight breath, ”compared to when I wore glasses on Earth, compared to normal vision level, it’s still a bit lacking, but it’s indeed much better. My eyesight was almost 400 degrees before this; now... guess it’s only around 100 degrees?”

”That’s pretty good.” Xu Xin showed a smile, it seems, the potion’s power is quite strong.

When he drank it, there wasn’t much improvement because his vision was already reasonably good, so seeing things a bit clearer wasn’t a big deal.

But Qi Xuefei was different. Her vision was poor, so after using the potion, there really was a significant transformation from blur to clarity.

”However...” Qi Xuefei’s breathing became heavier, and her voice trembled.

”What’s wrong?” Xu Xin noticed the anomaly and immediately asked.

”I feel... so cold now. This potion really has side effects.” she said, trembling as she exhaled.

Cold?

Just one potion, and she felt cold?

Xu Xin heard the sound of a door being opened and footsteps from the other side, followed by the crackling sound of wood burning.

Qi Xuefei also ran to the side of the furnace to warm herself.

”Warming up to the fire won’t work, this is an internal cold,” Xu Xin explained to Qi Xuefei, ”I experienced this after using three potions consecutively. Seems like the reactions vary for each person. I thought there’d be no side effects with the first bottle.”

”...So it means my endurance is weaker, huh,” Qi Xuefei’s voice was somewhat regretful, ”It turns out to be my own body constitution issue. So how long did this cold side effect last for you?”

”Around fifteen minutes.”

”That’s okay then.” Qi Xuefei breathed a sigh of relief, and then said, ”Thank you for the vision potion, Xu Xin. You go on with your work, I’ll contact you after I recover to tell you about my symptoms and the duration of the side effects.”

Being a doctor, she directly considered herself an experimental subject to help Xu Xin explore the potion’s side effects.

”Alright, take care, um... maybe drinking more hot water might help?”

”Uh... I’ll give it a shot.”
