Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 987: Chapter 783: Celene’s Gloating

The person live-streaming continued to slowly circle the city wall, capturing every inch of the Zholar Great Army surrounding the mountain. Then, the screen shifted back to the front of the mountain where the Matriarchs were located, focusing directly on the chatting Lady Zhuoers.

The seemingly friendly atmosphere between them couldn’t withstand a closer look... smiling lips, but eyes brimming with murderous intent.

Yet, the massive spiders beside them ensured that no matter how dissatisfied they were, they could only obediently comply... clearly, they were not the commanders, but hostages ensuring their families’ cooperation.

Even though the true commander was still nowhere to be seen, Hill felt that he, no, the Undead Tribe was likely about to encounter a familiar face.

Among Rose’s subordinates, wasn’t there just such a person familiar with the Undead Tribe?

Hill glanced at Fran who was approaching and waved to drag over a chaise lounge from the other side: ”Grandfather, sit here. The scent of Lily of the Valley is quite wonderful... we might be seeing an old acquaintance.

Did Rose’s giant spider, and that Female Mage she incarnated as, ever appear in Teraxil again?”

Fran looked at the giant screen, turned around, and sat down: ”Since the Space Gate opened, she hasn’t been seen.”

He revealed a peculiar smile: ”However, we weren’t too concerned about her whereabouts since both her identities were exposed. The God of Nobility’s followers pasted both her faces all over every town... there’s no way she could mingle into the circles of nobles and mages again.

As for the specifics, you’d have to ask Westaria. The elves have been searching for her all along.”

Hill was slightly dazed; he never thought he’d hear the real name of the Elven God King again... somehow, he preferred using the title Elven God King to call that fellow, likely desiring a bit of distance from him.

Fran, unfazed by his grandson’s mix of emotions, frowned and asked: ”What are those things?”

The Zholar Great Army appeared terrifyingly numerous, occupying most of the wasteland, outnumbering even the Undead Tribe... but most were monsters from other races... probably driven here as expendable resources.

Hill pointed at an ugly monster with a tube-shaped mouth and ears with a complex, tri-part structure: ”That’s a Dark Sound Blind Monster, unable to see, but adept at using sonic attacks. The sounds they emit can directly shatter rocks.

The Zholar likely intend for them to collapse the mountain directly.”

The Dark Sound Blind Monsters numbered in the tens of thousands. Such creatures aren’t easy to find, suggesting this was all the Zholar Families’ territories could muster... Hill observed for a while, noticing even very young blind monsters were driven over.

Behind the blind monsters was a motley army composed of Goblins, Bear Goblins, Troglodytes, and Trolls, accompanied by some bizarre-looking subterranean creatures. Hill scratched his head, suspecting Fran was more curious about what use these animals could be.

But actually, most were ordinary creatures with no intellect, just there to consume... true valuable monsters would never be left with these motley slaves by the Zholar.

He pointed to a few golems shielded by the motley slaves before the Zholar: ”Those things are truly terrifying... those are Disease Stone Golems.”

The lower body of the Disease Stone Golem resembled the merged heads of three centipedes, with a large cluster of upward spiraling stone spikes at the convergence. Emerging from the stone spike cluster were two multi-jointed arms, each with seven radially arranged fingers, and at the top of the stone spike cluster was a curved neck supporting a slanted, thorn-covered, bat-like head.

Hill earnestly explained the golem’s powers to his grandfather: ”This thing is immune to all spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities, as well as to mind-affecting effects, toxins, sleep, paralysis, daunt, disease, death effects, and necromancy effects. It is not affected by heavy hits, bruises, attribute damage, attribute drain, or energy drain effects.

And because its construction material is Disease Stone, those with low constitution, standing within 20 meters of such stone for 10 minutes, will feel nauseous and vomit.

Weak stone and metal equipment, if struck by it, will downgrade by one level.”

Fran’s interest quickly shifted: ”Can the abilities of the Undead Tribe counter these golems?”

Hill laughed: ”Physical attacks are still effective! It’s just that heavy weapons can’t be used.”

Fran silently nodded, his hands uncontrollably grasping at the table.

”Once such a golem dies, it becomes completely inactive and crumbles into silvery inert dust,” Hill said softly. ”I’ll have the Undead Tribe look for any Disease Stones, but the method to create such golems would be hard to obtain... I’m surprised Rose managed to acquire such things.”

Fran couldn’t help but smile: ”Having the materials is enough... I’ve never feared a lengthy research process.”

”But what’s the point? Going through all the trouble for a tool that can be destroyed at any time?” a distant voice floated over... Celene indeed was unrestrained in speaking with them, never intending to hold back.

”Honored Maiden of the Moon, please understand a mage’s research hobby,” Hill replied swiftly, ”Enjoying what you do doesn’t mean it has to have a purpose, right?

”I think you can definitely understand this viewpoint.”

Celene sighed, ”If only she could like what I like... this beautiful world, what’s not good about it?”

Hill couldn’t contain the flight of his thoughts: Is Celene still hoping that Shaer would understand her creating a Sun for the Toril World, thus creating countless lives?

Is the reason that Shaer insists on getting rid of her sister just because she feels there’s no way to communicate with her?

The Zholar army didn’t wait long... The Disease Stone Golem paved the way, with the ragtag army following behind, separated by trolls with greater endurance to avoid the golem’s nauseating halo.

The golden transparent protective shield outside the mountain trembled under the golems’ brute force attacks but held on tenaciously.

Soon, those trolls and bear goblins wielding giant weapons joined the assault.

The Undead Tribe on the hilltop had slowly organized their defensive formation and began lining up to descend the mountain.

Hill didn’t focus on the imminent clash between the two forces but kept his attention on the Zholars: Riding on giant lizards, they’ve already positioned according to family lines... presumably waiting for the shield to vanish to launch their attack.

These Zholars actually differ quite a bit in appearance... Their skin isn’t all black; some are deep blue or dark gray, and their eyes are not only red; there are light purple, blue, purple, and amber colors.

But the hair color of Zholars is white, with occasionally some pale yellow.

The relationship between these families is not good, even though the Matron is joyfully chatting at the front. The Zholars below, especially the female Zholars, are glaring angrily at one another... So, there’s actually a ten-meter gap between their formations.

Hill took a look around and found that these families weren’t too foolish, leaving mages without much attack capability back in their cities... Apparently, they were guarding against other families who weren’t fit to accept Lolth’s task from invading their territories.

Lolth wouldn’t help them protect their homes.

If a Zholar family loses its territory to complete her mission, she’d only reward them to encourage taking back their land, even allowing them to turn the invading rival family into spider elves for vengeance.

Thus, there are fewer female Zholars in the Zholar army... Besides those at the bottom choosing to become warriors, most female Zholars’s worst choice is to become mages, of course, becoming Lolth’s priests is their highest pursuit.

So Hill knew clearly, a Wax Melt Demon who prides herself on the identity of Lolth’s maid wouldn’t disguise herself as a male Zholar.

He furrowed his brows, carefully observing the screen, lightly tapping his finger, marking a silver halo over the heads of several suspicious Zholar female priests dressed in purple fitted robes.

Although they also acted disdainful towards other families standing on the opposite side, the feeling of being mortal enemies was very faint... In Zholar society, families of equal status are basically in a state of kill or be killed, with no alliances or reconciliations.

After Celene began speaking, Fran had remained silent, but Hill specifically pointed out who this Goddess actually was... Even in Aber, the legends of Suren were thrilling enough, let alone the countless stories he saw after coming to Hill’s side.

After reading, he realized that anything Suren fully involved herself would always escalate until it became uncontrollable.

Such a woman was the type he could never handle, let alone a Goddess.

But at this moment, he couldn’t help but closely observe the female Zholars marked by Hill on the massive screen, yet he couldn’t see anyone resembling the female Mage he’d dealt with in the past.

”Someone you know? Hill,” Celene couldn’t resist asking.

”Lolth once dispatched a Wax Melt Demon to our Teraxil,” Hill said nonchalantly, ”caused quite a stir in our world, and even dealt with the Undead Tribe, including Lolth herself, who also interacted with the Undead Tribe in more than one world.”

He looked at the fiercely contested battlefield, ”Lolth has observed the Undead Tribe for a long time; she wouldn’t be foolish enough to send those Matrons who only play conspiracy against the Undead Tribe... I didn’t even imagine she’d just send out an army like this.”

”I think Lolth intends to strategically delay, perhaps?” Celene suddenly laughed, ”slow down the Undead Tribe’s advance... Has Lolth found a way into the Shadow Realm?

Mask, that fool, left how many back doors for her to exploit!”

The more she thought, the happier she became, laughing like a jingle bell reincarnated, ”Shaer must want to kill Mask with all her heart now!”
