Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 956: Chapter 752: Chief Haber’s Visit

Amidst the exclamations of the Elven City Guards behind him, Lynn couldn’t maintain his usual graceful demeanor... he was almost dumbfounded watching the ’Old Age Striking King.’

Is this how she taught her white dragon?

Didn’t Hill mention that these Teraxil Elves would stay on Toril for at most one or two hundred years?

By then, would they leave behind these white dragons influenced by such strange thoughts for hundreds of years?

He silently watched the little loli sliding down the dragon’s head, dismantling the railings and throwing them down while cursing, deeply worrying about the future of the Ferun Great Land... because if Mystra’s death leading to the world’s destruction was considered a good ending to some extent... at least AO could still rescue them.

But if the Ferun Great Land were sunk by the white dragons... they would surely become the biggest joke in the multiverse in the future!

Lynn glanced back at the whispering Elven City Guards... They seemed to have learned things like ’the will of the Elves doesn’t need anyone’s approval’ since childhood... It appears that the Undead Tribe has opened a new world for them!

Lynn fell silent for a few seconds, if the Elves turned into the Undead Tribe, he thought he might also... be okay with it.

Lynn shook his head vigorously, wait! He must be crazy to think like that!

He can’t always think that as long as others are the ones dying, if others blow up the world, the Elves would also suffer!

The Undead Tribe can act so recklessly because Toril isn’t their world... even if it gets blown up, it wouldn’t affect them.

The Elves can’t do the same!

Wanting to stop the ’Old Age Striking King’ from teaching her white dragon friend bizarre things, Lynn raised his head to speak but could only hesitate: Saying this to the Undead Tribe is pointless... the more you prohibit them from doing something, the more they’ll find ways to do it.

However, the Undead Tribe accompanying this female priest on the escort mission behaved quite obediently, with nobody making a sound.

The knights following the Striking King silently picked up the iron bars on the ground, almost walking in circles around this lady... According to the Undead Tribe’s rule of whoever pays gets the goods, these things seem to be the Striking King’s own, no wonder she was so furious.

It seems, as the first to contract a white dragon, the female priest directly snagged this mission with a very lucrative reward... If those white dragon hatchlings obediently came back with her, the profits could reach twenty times the normal escort mission.

Even though Hill is quite wealthy, he typically only offers double profits at most, so such substantial rewards naturally imply a deep and unfathomable pit... ’Old Age Striking King’ probably thought she was safe enough with an adult white dragon by her side to dare to accept this task.

Lynn calculated the cost of those iron railings; these simple tools made by the Undead Tribe themselves are quite cheap, not much more expensive than the raw materials, maybe doubled... After all, they’re practice pieces, the expensive part is actually the price of modifying the carriages, which not every Undead Tribe member is capable of doing. Lynn remembered Hill mentioned that only those top-notch experts who specifically learn alchemy to earn money from their kin could achieve this.

Furthermore, even when having white dragons work, even the contractors have to pay them, as the Undead Tribe is always fair in this regard... if other people’s contracted dragons receive a reward, but theirs do not, that would be a crime in their hearts.

In addition, with the share given to the Undead Tribe... the Temporal Artifact ensures fair distribution for such escort missions.

Lynn ultimately determined that this female priest still managed to earn over five times the profit... which is actually a bit more than Hill anticipated, mainly because he hadn’t thought of using cages...

Hill anticipated the costs primarily in manpower... he figured that to make these white dragons obedient, it would take a 1-to-100 ratio at least.

So the person who ultimately accepted the mission could probably earn three times or a bit more in profit.

Knowing that this grumbling female priest didn’t actually incur a loss, just didn’t profit as much as she hoped, Lynn could now look at everything before him with a steady expression.

Anyway, whether they were dragon hatchlings or adolescent white dragons, they obediently took their ankles with the Supervisor and rushed into the mountains... the fastest ones had already started fighting for a satisfactory nest.

Hill had long instructed not to interfere in this matter, the white dragons could live without being too hard-pressed, but they couldn’t entirely not understand competition.

Lynn, who was in the best position to watch, was soon called by an Elf Guard running over quickly: ”Lynn, someone from the Haber Family has come, and Marsha has already invited him to the meeting room at the Municipal Office to wait for you.”

Upon hearing this shout, the ’Old Age Striking King’ quickly spoke up: ”I didn’t do anything to them! I just couldn’t resist testing the resistance of that Magic Tower while passing by!

When their rock guard came out, I simply left already!”

The little loli put hands on her hips, looking dissatisfied and said: ”Are they seriously coming to complain about this! For such a small matter, William didn’t even care about me!”

”Hey, Old Age, you’ve done enough!” The usually silent ’Cunlü’ finally couldn’t hold back and spoke. ”If it weren’t for William warning you that attacking the guards of the Kind Alignment would immediately deduct all your remaining rewards, would you honestly behave?”

I just don’t understand... You’re not losing money, so why act like you’re suffering greatly?

Why don’t you transfer the task to me? My sister just wants to make money and never cares whether it’s a dollar or two!”

”Tch~” The ’Old Age Striking King’ finally quieted down. ”Hmph! Do I care about that little money?

I’m mad because it differs too much from my expectations! I rarely get to have the upper hand when competing with Old Dog for a task!

He had initially expected to earn six times the profit in the end!

How do I calculate this now? I still can’t get it to 4 times~~

Damn~ the Old Dog must be laughing at me right now.”

Then she looked at ’Cunlü’ with a mocking expression on her face: ”Provocation tactics won’t work on me!

Want to earn money for free?

Tsk~ The last time sister fell for something like this was ten years ago!”

Lynn couldn’t help but glance at them: ”The Haber Family won’t bother with enemies they can’t beat over such trivial matters.”

The two ladies quickly understood his hint, waved their hands to say goodbye to him: ”Actually, it doesn’t matter if a fight breaks out~ Mr. Lynn, the half-orcs surrendered too quickly, we haven’t fought enough yet!

Moreover, the White Dragon really wants to get on the battlefield and fight! My friends want to train themselves!”

Lynn helplessly showed a smile full of ’listening to your nonsense’ meaning, waved goodbye to these members of the Undead Tribe.

Passing through the Green Forest, walking back to the city outskirts, he looked up at the Floating Castle, then saw Hill nodding to him.

It seems his friend isn’t too interested in the intentions of the Haber Family.

Well, the most powerful Archmage of the Haber Family is Kelben’s close friend, it’s impossible to suddenly switch sides and come to them.

Moreover, this family, Lynn also thinks Hill doesn’t need to interact with... they have mages of all alignments, only because the one standing at the forefront in the past two hundred years is Marko, who is Neutral Good, many people only thereby perceive their reputation as decent.

The human memory is always short, hence they overlooked that the Haber Family also has necromancers and dark sorcerers.

But elves won’t forget this family’s pursuit of dangerous knowledge and involvement in weird experiments not understood by ordinary people.

Lynn walked coldly into the reception room, slightly nodded to the Old Mage standing in the center of the room: ”Hello, I am Lynn, Municipal Officer of Agleya City, may I know who from Long Saddle Town you are? Is there anything you need my help with?”

”Good day, Mayor Lynn.” An elderly voice sounded, ”I am the Elder of Long Saddle Town, Adanko Haber.”

Chief Haber of the Haber Family?

Lynn lightly glanced at the Old Mage who didn’t speak after introducing himself, slowly walked to the main seat sofa and sat down: ”I know who you are, why are you looking for me?”

Lynn found it laughable that although the Old Mage’s expression didn’t change, a slight look of indignation flashed in his eyes, does he think Lynn’s attitude is too rude?

The Haber Family is indeed powerful, but also consider one’s own level, right!

Just a Level Ten Weave Mage, even when the Weave was functioning fine, Lynn wouldn’t fear him.

Oh, right, Lynn remembered, because of the cordial relations between Kelben and Marko, when appearing in Long Saddle Town he must behave kind and courteous, after all, these Haber Family elders are direct relatives of Marko.

But Adanko shouldn’t expect that Kelben’s enemy would also view him favorably, right? In Agleya, he is just a Level Ten Mage, even casually finding a guard on the road could easily defeat him.

Adanko quickly concealed that bit of dissatisfaction, it’s not that he doesn’t understand these differences, but years of being pampered have somewhat unsettled his mindset.

He performed a slight Mage Ceremony before asking: ”Agleya City recently constructed a highway-level road toward Long Saddle Town, which makes us a bit uneasy... Long Saddle Town is eternally neutral, family members have their own inclinations, as long as it doesn’t affect the survival of the family, the Haber Family won’t prevent their interpersonal interactions.”

Lynn finally understood what affected this family that always played dumb, he leaned his right forearm on the chair armrest supporting his cheek, quickly calculating in his mind the impact this road has on the Haber Family.

Haber Family shouldn’t think the road was built to act against them... Hill doesn’t need any road to deal with them.

As such, this Haber Clan Leader spoke very tactfully, they mainly want to know the purpose of building this road.

In other words, this road indeed hurt their interests.

What is it?

The sources of income in Long Saddle Town, besides the inn and bar, include an equestrian market and a bell maker, their family mages also produce some strange objects to sell in bars.

Could it be Hill’s habit of selling strange objects affecting them?

No... not entirely.

Lynn’s eyes lit up... it’s the road itself!

A sufficiently safe road leading to the seaside is enough to make most trade caravans passing Long Saddle Town no longer stay there for extended periods!”
