Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 968: Chapter 764: Runes That Cannot Be Learned

”Why are the Teraxil Elves so strange? Why aren’t they puzzled or shaken by the change in their enemies?” Vila’s face was full of question marks. ”If they think they can’t handle that Lich... then why aren’t they happy about its disappearance?”

In the world of the Undead Tribe, it’s only natural to run from a boss you can’t defeat, and leaving behind a mini-boss they can handle is par for the course... However, Hill couldn’t utter these words.

He just smiled and said, ”They’ve already been to several worlds before coming to Toril... Their combat experience is very rich, so this slight change won’t surprise or excite them.”

Vila tilted her head and said disapprovingly, ”But when the Swan Fairy shrinks down, they scream madly... Princess Aierla nearly fell from the sky the first time she heard it... Their voices are even louder than Gnomes.”

Hill glanced at Vila with a peculiar expression. What did the Little Flower Fairy do before, to have such a vivid memory of the Gnomes’ voices... It definitely wasn’t because of curse words; the Gnomes’ spittle was nothing compared to Gnomes, who were masters of vile lies and filthy language.

Generally speaking, the simplest way to deal with that sort of thing is to seal their mouths first.

While it’s true that Gnomes are an easily excitable race, they don’t typically scream in rage... Well, never mind, he’d better not ask... Vila occasionally brings up past incidents and will mention that infamous Gnome god. A good kid would never have dealings with that creature.

And Hill could tell that the Gnome god had suffered at Vila’s hands, which is why it later helped Titania take advantage of Vila.

He whispered, ”In the world of Teraxil Elves, battle-hardened training and a life full of surprises do not conflict.

If Vila can also achieve this, she will surely become a very outstanding leader.”

Hill leaned against the table, resting his right hand on his cheek, smiling gently to his left. Although he couldn’t see Vila swinging on his long hair, he hoped Vila could feel his sincerity.

As long as there’s a passion for life, Vila still has half a chance to break free from the power struggle... when the Sun God returns to the Divine Throne.

Vila swung lightly a few times on her swing: ”I will learn well... I want to be the most perfect Queen, a Queen completely different from Titania!”

A grating howl suddenly emanated from the direction of the screen... It was the sound of the Undead, a wail that the Undead can only make before their death.

Hill swiftly turned to look at the large screen: the head of the King of Bones, encircled by the Knights, was slain.

The cheers of the Undead Tribe had not yet subsided when a dark glow burst from the skull that had been firing bone arrows at the crowd, and the skeleton body on the ground suddenly disassembled and then flew up, heading straight for the skull.

The fast-reacting attacks from the Undead Tribe all missed, while the glowing skull was completely untouchable... During its reformation, this undead seemed to exist in another space.

But its attack did not stop and instead became even fiercer. The Undead hit by bone arrows suffered heavy losses... If it weren’t for the constant ’Holy Rain’ falling from the sky, there would likely have been more deaths.

Meanwhile, the other terrifying skulls kept releasing a barrage of endless cold bone arrows, forcing the nearby Undead to dodge.

In just a moment, the areas around both skulls were almost cleared out.

The voice of ’Snow Cloud Peak’ echoed: ”What the f**k! Is it three lives this time? Main T, surround that black glow! Come on, quick! Those with slow speeds who didn’t make it to the front row, go to the other head!

Let the others open up the front lines! How many hits do you think you can withstand?

Knights with protective gear, put it on quickly, stay outside the Defender Knight... The speed of these bone arrow releases has increased! Long range with slow reactions, keep the farthest distance!

Anyone who thinks they can’t aim well should not attack! There are Priests for that!

#*! Which idiot hit the main T with lightning?

All Ts, note down who attacked you and their damage... I’ll tally up how many idiots I’ve brought back with me later.”

The black-and-red skeleton appeared on the Prime Material Plane again, brandishing a blackened bone staff to strike at the Defensive Knights blocking its path. However, by now, it had lost its ranged attack capability and no longer projected bone ashes.

So soon enough, more of the Undead Tribe surrounded it, since as long as this tall skeleton couldn’t break through the Knights’ defense, the other professions wouldn’t have to fight while dodging... Many people fumble around because they can’t focus on two things at once; fighting stationary is their routine.

Hill leaned against the sofa and smiled. This is why he loves watching the battles of the Undead Tribe... War is always brutal, yet the Undead Tribe always manages to turn it into entertainment.

”Their battle style is interesting, but don’t relax just because of it,” Fran glanced at Hill, unable to resist giving a word of caution, ”Before any battle, make sure you understand the enemy in detail... Be cautious and careful when fighting.

They can afford to be negligent; you cannot!

I know you possess divinity, whether in Toril or Teraxil, unless your Divine Soul is completely destroyed, you always have the hope of Resurrection... But will that still be all of you then?

Can you still act according to your own will freely? I just looked at the historical records of this world and understood a lot.

There’s no way resurrection comes without a cost, such things are best left unfulfilled.”

Hill beamed a bright smile at his grandfather: ”Don’t worry! Grandpa... I’ve never underestimated any enemy, and I give my all no matter who I’m up against.

Moreover, my combat mode is much sneakier than that lich’s ever was.

If I can hide to shoot arrows, I definitely won’t expose myself to fire openly.”

If it weren’t for the Magicplague, Hill wouldn’t have been standing so close to the enemy, otherwise, he wouldn’t have relied most on Wind Spells for combat... even though his Earth System Spells were the strongest.

Fran looked at Hill’s earnest eyes and nodded with satisfaction. He was not worried about Hill being overly passionate in battle... The fact that his grandson doesn’t hide from start to finish and solely rely on Elemental Spirits for fighting is good enough.

But he truly worried about Hill neglecting the brutal reality of battle and becoming careless. Sometimes hiding poorly can turn out worse, who knows if the enemy has a way to locate Hill himself!

The Undead Tribe’s combat mode is no different from playing a game, if any madman learns from them, they’d probably drop dead on the same day.

Luckily, Hill seems to find no attraction in the Undead Tribe’s way of fighting... Hill probably doesn’t know that in Teraxil, many Mage Apprentices wished they could be like the Undead Tribe, fearless in battles, and daring to fight whomever they encounter.

Before Fran left Teraxil, his most solemn request to Adrian was: No matter how talented a student is, as long as they’re a Mage Apprentice of this Undead Tribe’s worship school, they must never be admitted into their Magic Tower.

Mages fight with their wisdom... and would never engage in unprepared battles. Before setting out, one must roughly estimate possible encounters, even enemies, and have several contingency plans ready for unexpected events... If someone likes charging straight ahead, wouldn’t being a mindless Knight be more fitting?

It would also save everyone’s resources... Ever since arriving in Aber-Toril, Fran finally understood what it meant by resources not meeting consumption, those Giant Dragons even robbed him in groups just because he was paying with Gold Bricks worth thousands of Gold Coins... It was poverty beyond his imagination...

It seems similar in Toril, this gold which he never esteemed before now works wonders everywhere.

His steward would bring the summary of territorial and Ferun Great Land’s news from Marsha every day for him to view.

Fran had already seen that Ancient White Dragon that went to work for the Undead Tribe for tens of thousands of Gold Coins... Such creatures were not numerous even in Aber, a world dominated by Giant Dragons, after all, though White Dragons are born frequently, they die swiftly.

Hill was quite happy to hear his grandfather’s teachings again... Family concern is never too much, so in a good mood, he took out a pack of low-temperature roasted daily nuts to share with the Little Fairies.

”What the#!” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ started cursing again, ”What is the T by the Ice Arrow side doing? Why don’t you let it charge straight into the Priest group?

If dead, is there no backup?

What are they all doing by the Fire Arrow side? Huh? What, are you all dumb?

The third circle shouldn’t stand at the main T! You can’t even get into the second circle, what are you queueing for?

That’s a Skull, not a pretty young lady, do you really need to consider XP to choose a spot? Red or white, they’re all bones!

Why aren’t you changing positions already? Hurry up and encircle the Ice Arrow!

What are you all thinking?

Finish quickly, and then take a break, if you’re not tired, my throat’s already hoarse!”

Hill grabbed a handful of sweet almonds and stuffed them into his mouth, his eyes squinting happily, others might have honey-coated mouths, but ’Snow Cloud Peak’s mouth is likely coated with durian!

No wonder every time a battle ends, someone tries to drag him into an arena.

Fran shook his head helplessly: ”When His Majesty William is around, he seems more restrained, not so wanton.”

He lowered his head and noted down a few runes, when the Lord of Bones reformed, he suddenly noticed many strange symbols, Fran looked down for a while before asking Hill: ”Hill, do you recognize these runes?”

Hill craned his head for a look and couldn’t help scratching his head: ”Just as I thought, it’s Undead Script... Grandpa try not to learn this, it’ll make you noticed by the Grim Reaper.”

He certainly knew what Fran was jotting down, but he couldn’t bear the sight of Necromancy that he’d naturally revile, let alone closely observe the runes on skeletons.

Fran pondered for a moment, then deftly tore that page from the book and held it lightly between his fingers, a red flame quietly appeared and burned the paper to ashes.
