Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 969: Chapter 765: Snow Old Dog, Silent as Ever

Fran indeed enjoys the pursuit of the unknown, but he has always set a boundary for himself.

He never agreed with the approach that as long as it was for the pursuit of knowledge, one could abandon the boundaries of being human. After leaving Teraxil, this belief became even more firm.

Fran even feels that he is stronger now for being willing to give up the knowledge of the evil side than he was in the past when he wanted to learn everything.

This realization was brought to him by Hill: choose the path you want, and then persist in it without hesitation. Even if other sceneries are more beautiful, do not feel regret.

Never let your persistent exploration of knowledge turn into uncontrollable greed.

He glanced at his grandson, who was looking at him with concern, and smiled slightly: ”Don’t worry about me.

I have already understood that knowledge is endless, and there is no need to grasp it all in my hands. Back then, I gave up learning the Demon Text, and now I’ll give up learning the Undead Script.

These are things that corrode the soul, and no matter how strong the will is, it cannot remain unaffected... I’m unwilling to give my soul to Deities, so how is it possible that I would risk my soul?”

Since Hill had already shown him that even without choosing the Laws of Destruction, one can become so powerful, Fran certainly will not embrace the evil... Fran absolutely does not believe that the day will come when he can no longer gain new knowledge without learning Evil Spell.

The Multiverse is infinite; even when reaching the end of life, he will never reach the day where all truths are learned.

Not even those Deities who bear the name of knowledge would dare say they know everything.

Hill happily laughed, watching Fran turn to the previous page, and then discover that the runes recorded on that page were from the Ancient Elves lineage.

Hill did not find it strange; traces of elves can be found in many of the ancient ruins of Kalinsan from many tens of thousands of years ago, after all, the ones who sealed those ancient mystical creatures were the most powerful First Generation Elves.

With the past power and influence of Lagong, the Master of Runes, in Kalinsan, researching these ruins was too easy for him.

These runes won’t be unfamiliar to Fran... The elves’ text in Teraxil is the Ancient Elven Script of Toril, melodious in tone and beautifully structured, yet complex and difficult to understand.

Hill gently asked: ”Grandfather, have you seen the current elven text of Toril?”

Fran, holding the pen in his hand, replied without looking up: ”I have seen it... it’s much simpler now!

Especially when it can be learned by comparing it with the Teraxil Elven Script, it’s even easier.

Back when I was learning the elven script, it took me nearly ten full years, and that was because I could directly converse with the elves.

When I left, Adrian’s learning of the elven script was still quite rough... he could even make mistakes when reading purely elven spell books, while he found elven novels easy to understand.”

Hill couldn’t help but laugh; Adrian has always struggled with learning texts, making him incredibly envious of Hill, who never needed to study it.

In the grand screen, the Undead Tribe cheered again as the black-red Lord of Bones burst into a pile of rotten bones.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ seemed to cheer up as well: ”Alright... seize this opportunity, you all stand over there... the main T just now can take a slight rest, just stand in the third row, and remember to fill in the positions.

Get spirited up! Everyone! Victory is within reach; the sooner we finish, the sooner we can rest! Let’s do our best~

The Priest and Paladins have worked hard, at that time, the military exploits will be calculated in double.”

His concluding speech was hardly listened to, as most people were already excited.

The Mages, taking advantage of the yet-to-start battle, released one spell after another at the feet of the giant skeleton returning to the world, or area-sustained spells like Fire Wall.

Hence, the pale skeleton, as soon as it stepped forward, was compelled to wail, and the Staff of Bones in hand smashed around irregularly... Even Hill, who couldn’t see the monster’s health, could feel this guy’s weakness.

”Give it more effort! Push harder!” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ was excited, ”Soon you can finish and rest!”

”Old Dog shut up!” A loud female voice echoed through the entire cavern, ”Do you not know how cursed you are? How dare you say such words?”

’Old Age Striking King,’ who had been quiet until now, broke their defense at this moment... and the following chorus of complaints also proved their grievances.

Snow Old Dog suddenly went quiet too; despite having a loudspeaker, they stubbornly maintained silence, not daring to say a word in return.

Hill really lost control this time and laughed ’haha,’ seemingly, in the world of the Undead Tribe, saying ’almost able to rest’ is not something to be said lightly either.

Especially someone with such foul luck, they should definitely not open their mouth.

And the Undead Tribe evidently has ample experience in this regard, as people have already started to run towards the passage leading to the Underworld to set traps... It seems Old Dog’s reputation in this is very well known.

Fran looked up with interest, put away the notebook in his hand, and stood up: ”If he can really summon monsters, even the Goddess of Misfortune would be interested in him.

If it’s just mindless undead or monsters, don’t call me, I have some inspiration, and I want to try it out.”

”Okay, Grandfather.” Hill stood up as well.

Fran waved his hand to Hill to indicate he could relax and then turned around and left.

The battle with the Undead Tribe ended quickly. Although that Lord of Bones finally thought of trying to break out and escape in the final stage, there were too many knights surrounding it... only to be utterly destroyed with a sharp, agonized wail.

However, no one from the Undead Tribe cheered. The surviving knights raised their great shields, standing shoulder to shoulder, forming a line, and then step by step, they began to advance toward the spot where Lagong had just stood.

The little fairies became nervous, finally realizing that these Teraxil Elves believed there were still enemies there... but how was that possible?

There had just been a Great Lich of over level 30 standing there... unless someone was blind, who would dare approach?!

They chattered amongst themselves and even opened a betting pool: The stakes were the wreaths they had prepared for the Vernal Equinox Celebration... It seemed that rather than holding the ball outside, they were more interested in watching the commotion among the Undead Tribe, and didn’t plan to show off their most beautiful side at the celebration.

Only after reaching a consensus, with none of them attending, would these little fairies give up on their wreaths.

Once they reached the entrance, the mages, closely following behind the knights, began repeatedly casting ’Flame Shockwaves’ ahead of the knights. Although the level of these shockwaves wasn’t high, besides setting things on fire, they could also shake the ground beneath their feet, an excellent way to startle any hidden threats.

Hill sat on the sofa with interest... Could it be that Old Dog’s mouth really had some divine power?

Yet the Undead Tribe seemed to have absolute confidence in their commander. So even after dozens of steps without incident, they continued persevering, ensuring every corner was hit with ’Flame Shockwaves’.

Then, in Hill’s dumbfounded gaze, a pack of howling Stone-blind Barbarians was blasted out.

These bizarre, axe-wielding humanoids were actually devolved humans... They had become grotesque eyeless monstrosities beyond recognition.

But their hearing and sense of smell were incredibly sharp, allowing them to hear the sounds of distant battles and detect the scent of blood from afar.

They used to serve as humans for the Heart-taking Demons... their level was not low.

Hill suspected they already knew the situation of this lair, which was why so many elite-level Stone-blind stalkers were ready for an ambush against the victors of the battle.

However, these monsters didn’t know that a Great Lich was in control here... so only a few hundred warriors of around level 20 had come.

No matter how large their frames, how strong their power, or how sharp their stone axes... the terrifying numerical disparity was something they simply couldn’t overcome.

Indifferently, Hill watched these barbarians be thoroughly annihilated... These creatures simply didn’t deserve to live in this world. They loved capturing humans to offer to their Heart-taking Demons... Even if abandoned, they’d continue tirelessly seeking sacrifices to find a new Heart-taking Demon master willing to accept them.

However, only Heart-taking Demons that failed in power struggles would choose to control a tribe of Stone-blind Barbarians, hoping to accumulate new slaves this way.

Once they were sure the slaves they groomed could protect them, the Heart-taking Demons would discard these ugly, foolish creatures without hesitation... Yes, even the ones these barbarians wholeheartedly followed looked down on them the most.

No one knew why this was, but most agreed it had something to do with the collapse of the empire that the Heart-taking Demons established back in the day.

The creatures aboveground were indifferent to the grudges and love-hate between them and simply abhorred these blind monsters. Even the evil forces shunned dealing with them.

Every human, lich included, upon seeing these disgusting things, eradicated them... Hill truly hadn’t expected such a large gathering existed below the World’s Ridge.

He quietly contemplated for a while, yet he didn’t issue a task to eradicate the Stone-blind Barbarians to the Undead Tribe.

Perhaps he was overthinking, but a tribe of Stone-blind Barbarians capable of sending hundreds of warriors of over level 20 all at once had to be enormous... This was somewhat incredible.

No Heart-taking Demon would nurture such a large tribe... Besides, if they were willing to stay so close to the surface, then there had to be a big city above them... The sort that relishes throwing those who failed in power struggles into the underworld.

Therefore, it must be a native tribe... What allowed them to survive for so many years under the eyes of a lich?

Hill lowered his eyes. He decided to leave the future of these Stone-blind Barbarians for the Undead Tribe to decide.

In Toril, no being could calculate or control the movements of the Undead Tribe, much less incorporate them into a prophecy.

”What on earth are these things? They’re smelly, ugly, and poor!” The complaints came from the Undead Tribe after the battle ended.

”Pure experience monsters, right?” someone replied, ”Something conjured by Old Dog’s divine mouth, what could they be worth?”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ remained silent.
