Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 967: Chapter 763: BOSS Switch, Roles Reversed

The photographer who had been silently live-streaming the battle muttered softly, “No wonder people always say that Old Dog, even with 100 girlfriends, would be dumped 101 times…”

Hill could understand the photographer’s words; ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ always tried hard not to scold the priests, especially those who get flustered and uncoordinated in a hurry… but he couldn’t help it.

Actually, there were quite a few girls in other professions too, but generally speaking, girls interested in battles tended to have stronger resilience… so indeed, priests were the most prone to having fragile hearts, yet also the profession with the most innocent and adorable girls.

However, most priests hated Old Dog.

Fortunately, the angry Lagong drew away the attention of the still chattering Snow Old Dog.

He waved his hand in the air, and the number of black flames in front of the Defensive Knights doubled directly… Utilizing his Master of Arcane talent to recreate the spell effect of the Black Flame Technique…

This was different from the previous spell recall, where that specialty merely allowed him not to waste his magic slots… The same spell could be used continuously but at the cost of his own mana.

Yet, the Supreme Sorcery talent of the Master of Arcane does not require that, though it can only be used once a day.

In other words, Lagong’s mana remained completely full.

This is the representation of high-level combat power in Toril… Lagong appeared very at ease, feeling the Undead Tribe was just a minor episode, not worthy of more effort…

If it hadn’t been for the complete annihilation of the little pets in this burrow, Lagong wouldn’t have targeted so many elves… The Master of Runes, who dared not return to that underground cave in Kalinsan, still hoped the elves could take down those Fire God Beasts and Air God Creatures again!

Lagong couldn’t swallow this anger; even if he couldn’t eliminate them all, these elves had to pay for disrupting his Bone Dragon plan.

The Lich’s purple soul fire suddenly flickered wildly: This is not right!

The doubled number of black flames caused massive casualties among the Defensive Knights standing at the front, with the main tanks positioned ahead… Some who probably had items on them chose to return to town for resurrection rather than waiting for the battle to end.

The black flames burned the soul… What Lagong wanted were intact corpses; if they were burnt up, summoning high dead spirits again would be a dream!

Even so, you need some remains!

So, Lagong finally noticed those corpses inexplicably disappearing… He fixed his gaze on a few newly fallen bodies and quickly noticed the suddenly bursting Elemental Light and those abruptly vanishing husks… Even the sturdy armor was gone.

The lich who had existed in Toril for 7000 years found himself bewildered… What was that?

He desperately searched his memories for information about these elves…

The reason the Master of Runes was hunted by divine beasts was due to his great control over the Carashan court: The eldest four sons of Pasha, the 32 personal guards and harem slaves of the Pasha, as well as the Pasha’s grand vizier, or chancellor, were under his control, carried out through the mages serving in the palace.

So when the Carashan Royal Family was completely destroyed, those divine beasts followed the palace’s secret path leading to his underground lair and found Lagong.

The thousands-of-years’ worth of accumulation by the Master of Runes in Carashan turned to ashes… literally, as his opponents were Fire God Beasts and Air God Creatures.

Luckily, he still had a secret lair ‘Under the Mountain’ in Deepwater City… Because of that terrifyingly powerful mage, no one in Deepwater dared to touch that horror that had been hidden beneath them for thousands of years.

So Lagong established a small base there… As long as it wasn’t big enough to catch Halaster the Black Robe’s attention, otherwise, that mad Archmage would destroy everything he saw. He was truly insane, not just pretending like some Dragon Liches or Elminster.

Lagong was a textbook ancient wizard, and apart from Kalinsan and spells, he wasn’t much interested in other matters, but he seemed to remember his student Calas, who stayed in Deepwater City, once tried to report something about the presence of a large number of elves around Sword Bay and if they had some peculiarities?

Lagong was never interested in elves, so he directly stopped him… To be honest, Lagong thought Calas had been a mummy for so long that even his brain had turned to wood!

What relation could elves have with him?

But now… it seemed he might have to go back and ask about this relation.

The Lich’s black robe suddenly fluttered, and with a ‘boom,’ he exchanged places with a powerful undead creature with three skeletal heads.

Lagong chose to swap places with his undead servant far in Deepwater City, a level 30 Lord of Bones.

Fran asked Hill perplexedly, “He hardly consumed any mana, right? Why did he leave so suddenly?”

Hill couldn’t help but laugh: “I guess he found out that the Undead Tribe could never leave him a corpse, right? Even a lich wouldn’t want to fight a battle with absolutely no gain.”

Fran pondered for a moment before saying, “Fortunately, Teraxil has no room for the presence of the Undead Scourge… Necromancers… are really a loathsome profession.”

Hill nodded lightly.

No world can escape the creator’s will. Even though the World Tree doesn’t like to interfere in the future of these worlds, a planet full of life almost cuts off the chance for Teraxil People to become liches or similar undead.

And humans born in Teraxil inherently abhor these undead creatures. Even Fran cannot change this gene imprinted mark.

As for the subsequent battle, Hill looked at the Lord of Bones, who seemed to be wreaking havoc, but didn’t think he had any chance of survival.

The reason the Undead Tribe suddenly panicked now is that their enemy suddenly changed from a magical class to a physical class.

Although this gigantic undead, except for the middle skull, had two other heads that also left the shoulders, fluttering in the air and continuously throwing an endless stream of chilling bones and withered flame bones forward, the Undead Tribe, which had regained their combat rhythm, might grind it down soon enough.

Hill glanced again at the tall skeleton surrounded by the thousands of the Guardian Knight Order. He couldn’t break through even the first layer of defense. Even though two floating skulls were shooting bones with two different elements at the distant professional ranks, he had no choice but to wield the Staff of Bones and get tangled up with the knights.

The ability of the middle skull is presumably to resurrect the undead… However, there’s nothing here, as the burn-happy Undead Tribe had already burned everything to ashes during a rest; the smell of the undead is too foul, and the Undead Tribe wouldn’t want to linger in such an environment.

The only hope for the Lord of Bones is the massive pile of insect corpses dumped at the back of the cave… Intelligent Lagong wouldn’t think it’s useful to turn those bugs into undead; instinct-driven skeletons aren’t going to analyze whether it’s useful. He’s been trying to break out in that direction.

Hill was a bit confused; does Lagong still have many more than level 30 undead creatures in hand?

He must know that if this skeleton doesn’t run, it’s eventually a dead end. Although when facing Lagong, the Undead Tribe seems at a loss, the damage output by the Master of Runes can one-shot anyone but the Defensive Knight… This big skeleton cannot do that, even if he has three heads simultaneously casting skills.

When his bone arrows hit the golden shield wall constructed by the Defender Knights, they could only trigger ripples, unlike Lagong, whose black flames bore deep pits in the shield wall… Someone could die at any moment.

However, Fran, nearby, noticed something fishy, even though he didn’t understand the undead, he could see through alchemy: “There’s something wrong with this skeleton… it seems like a semi-finished product.”

Following Fran’s guidance, Hill looked at the skeleton’s limbs and finally spotted some small runes in the crevices between the bones.

He exhaled: “No wonder this skeleton is so mindless… I thought Lagong deliberately extinguished its flame of wisdom.

But, although it fights stiffly… the strength is sufficient!

I wonder if he can mass-produce it… if he can…”

Hill abruptly held his tongue… He initially wanted to say that if he could, Amanata might face a formidable future adversary.

After all, Lagong is the uncrowned king of Kalinsan, and Amanata initially revived on someone else’s territory. Yet, his inherently domineering nature would certainly demand that Kalinsan belongs to him; of course, the king might still be a descendant of a certain Kalinsan Royal Family, but the power… legislative power… would certainly be in the hands of the Church of the Sun God.

According to Toril’s causal relations, Amanata definitely can’t kill Lagong in the short term.

However, this fits Toril’s tradition; even if there comes a day to return to the Divine Throne, he must bring one or even several enemies with him.

Hill glanced at the tiny fairies attentively watching the battle on the giant screen, but he could not speak these words in front of Vila.

He quietly rubbed the Crystal Flower Ring on his finger, silently passing his command to List: the little fairies must not enter Fran’s residential vicinity.

And some high-level secrets from Agleya, starting now, must also be kept from the little fairies… With the Tower Spirit cooperating with the Water Maze Lock, the little fairies won’t discover the places Hill doesn’t want them to go.

Recalling the sigh that was about to escape, Hill leaned quietly against the sofa.

Fran, however, was watching the giant screen with great fascination, even though such undead constructs are of no use to his expertise in creating puppets, he thought that some of the lich’s ideas were not problematic and could be incorporated into his fine construction of puppets.

Although Fran’s puppets could already pass for the real thing, he was still not quite satisfied, especially with the slightest nuances that differentiated them from real people.

For someone like Hill, with a keen sense, there’s no need to perceive life to discover that kind of dissonance of puppets… Fran’s current goal is to eliminate such disharmony.

He quickly took out paper and pen, recording the runes he observed.
