Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 976: Chapter 772: The Undead Tribe Unsure Whether to Be Happy

These bugs covered in strange slime, completely impervious to damage from ranged weapons, inadvertently created a huge disaster for the Undead Tribe, and their always-proud defensive knight system was unable to establish a secure position at this time.

A multitude of the Undead Tribe could only scream and flee: “Aaaah! Where are the mages? Hurry up!”

“They can eat rocks directly! Transmutation is no use!”

“#! Isn’t there any rock tougher than Blue Oak Rock?”

“Do you think I’m Hill Bear?”

Hill couldn’t help but twitch his mouth upon hearing these words. He raised his hands to gently applaud these Purple Worms, hoping they would keep up the good work and teach these little bastards more of a lesson.

The defensive power of the Purple Worms could be considered top-tier in a way… Moreover, they are immune to Fixed Body Type and Charm Type spells, and as long as their slime remains, other spells would be at least half as effective.

Hill looked at the valiant Purple Worm Leader and from its resistance to spells and weapons, he could judge that this female worm’s resilience and endurance were both above level 40, and even its strength was at least level 35.

Dealing with it would not be easy. The Lightning Burst was even refracted and bounced back, directly taking out several unsuspecting members of the Undead Tribe… The pitiful screams of those who cast the spell, worse than those of the unfortunate ones who died, clearly showed that it seemed even William hadn’t reacted, as they were directly marked with the red name.

But this also drove the always restrained Undead Tribe mad. The glow of various spells quickly refracted and flew within the cave… Hill could even hear many people shouting, “There’s a bug, record it quickly!”

“Don’t use area spells! Let it reflect, even dying doesn’t matter! This is a planning error!”

“Let’s see how that dumb# William will compensate us this time!”

“The frustration from the past few days has to be returned with interest!”

“Daydreaming… At most, the dog planner will apologize, give a discount card, or distribute some Crystal Stones…”

“You think you’re so smart?”

“Exactly! Dumb#! If you say it, you’re a dumb#!”

“Shut up! Stop!” Snow Cloud Peak’s voice echoed angrily, “If I catch anyone trying to use spell reflection to kill their own again, I’ll deduct all your military exploits!”

“Those who died, hurry up and resurrect to report the bug to the Temporal Artifact! Do you need me to teach you this?” he said with a tone of hating iron for not becoming steel, “Having time to watch the commotion but not earn money?”

The bodies lying on the ground and in the bellies of the Purple Worms both simultaneously glowed faintly… Someone had been swallowed but hadn’t resurrected directly, no wonder these Purple Worms persisted in wanting to swallow the Undead Tribe!

Hill couldn’t help but laugh. The Undead Tribe always leaves people with mixed feelings… This behavior of preferring to stay inside a Purple Worm’s belly, watching their body gradually dissolve in the acid just to watch the excitement outside, is not something just anyone can do.

But it seems William’s game has bug rewards, and they’re quite valuable, otherwise these guys wouldn’t choose to resurrect immediately after being alerted… One must know that there’s always someone who will choose excitement over a few dollars, but if the value surpasses a certain amount, even the wealthy would consider getting the money first… There may be prodigals, but such people wouldn’t choose a game that requires playing so hard.

Especially since Hill suspects the rewards William gives are real money for the Undead Tribe… To him, that money might not even be as valuable as the so-called Gold Coins in the game.

The Undead Tribe frantically experimented with all kinds of spells, only to dejectedly determine that aside from setting fires, there was no other way… This also meant those unable to escape could return to the first Revival Point and start over.

The flames of the Fire Wall Technique burned fiercely in the cave… The Purple Worm Leader let out a shrill scream and then unhesitatingly lengthened its body to roll on the ground. Its subordinates or progeny followed suit, rolling to extinguish the flames.

These Purple Worms seemed to have mutated, and the slime on their bodies was somewhat like a Fire Extinguishing Potion, Hill silently concluded.

He couldn’t help but sigh. From the experiences of the Undead Tribe these past few days, it is clear that The North truly has the highest concentration of mage forces, whether above ground or underground… These creatures from the Underdark have somewhat mutated, possibly from eating the experimental waste dumped by mages or perhaps they were former test subjects.

No wonder the usually solitary Purple Worms would act together.

The seesaw battle between the Undead Tribe and the Purple Worms lasted for over ten minutes… Although due to the Undead Tribe’s inexhaustible nature and their attitude of sending their own to death, they managed to take down two of the smallest Purple Worms… But this only made the Purple Worm Leader even more furious.

It was almost frenzied, darting underground back and forth, no longer merely trying to hoard food. Every time it emerged from underground to kill someone, it would dive back underground immediately… If there were undigested bodies inside them, they wouldn’t be able to move so swiftly through the rock layers.

After its anger finally subsided, the Purple Worm Leader realized it was practically working in vain… It let out a mournful roar, jumped high, and then slammed into the ground fiercely.

Its few remaining subordinates also screamed and drilled downward.

However… their long bodies had to retreat with a scream when they were only halfway down.

“Tsk! Fortunately, we’re just in time.” Snow Cloud Peak’s voice sounded smug, “If we let you all escape like that… then our sacrifices would’ve been in vain.”

A giant mesh made of countless metal threads began to slowly emerge, covering the twenty-meter-wide cave floor… Knights wielding giant shields stood on both ends of these purple worms, and the glow of the shield wall once again stretched from the knights’ great shields to the top of the cave… even though it’s almost impossible for the purple worms to escape from above, a net appeared there too.

Metal nets that even purple worms couldn’t burrow through?

Hill couldn’t help but carefully examine it… This should be a more affordable material created by the God of Time and Space using the liquid alloy lines Mr. Fran once described.

Otherwise, even if the Undead Tribe faced complete annihilation… The purple worm skin, mandibles, and even their slime and stomach acid are indeed fine alchemical materials, but Hill reckoned they couldn’t compensate for this nearly 300-meter-long by 20-meter-wide net.

After all, only the materials from the leader are somewhat valuable.

Hill tilted his head slightly and said gently: “List… this time, collect at five times the value of materials of the same level from purple worms.”

“Yes, sir.” List hesitated for a moment and then asked, “Once we acquire it all, should it be handed over to Mr. Fran entirely?”

Hill was puzzled, “What’s up?”

“Such powerful magic defense ability… wouldn’t you also need some, sir?” List asked somewhat reluctantly.

“That’s the result of spell-like halos… their skin only has elasticity comparable to dragon skin.” Hill couldn’t help but smile, “Once the purple worms are dead, they won’t have the strong mage rebound force; better give it to my grandfather to see if he can make similar effects with other materials.

I’m far behind my grandfather in biological material research, no need to waste like that.”

List still had a face full of regret, hesitating to leave… The skin of such creatures makes excellent defense material; however, Hill preferred using magic power to weave threads himself and didn’t like wearing worm skin… his cleanliness was truly incorrigible.

Hill could only helplessly say, “Leave me 2 meters of the purple worm leader’s skin.”

Once encountering something really good, List couldn’t control the bit of cleverness inherited from his mother… even if it only ended up stored away, it was still in their family chest.

With the fighting style of the Undead Tribe, the purple worm skin certainly wouldn’t be completely intact, so two meters was already a lot.

List vanished quickly with a joyful smile on his face… He wasn’t annoyed about handing good items to Fran for research, but rather Hill not keeping any of it.

Hill could only shake his head helplessly and continue watching the giant mesh… Just as he thought, the purple worms controlled by metal threads couldn’t struggle anymore.

Even as the purple worm leader madly collided with the shield wall, it made no difference; there were just too many defensive knights from the Undead Tribe, and judging by the dazzling colors flashing from them, they were seemingly enhanced to the highest level by various auxiliary magic.

If the purple worms weren’t attacking from underground, they wouldn’t have inflicted such significant damage to the Undead Tribe.

No matter how high their defense was, as long as they couldn’t break through the metal nets reinforced by Gold Element Mages, they would be burned alive by endless flames.

Those Gold Element Mages seated behind the defensive knights kept their hands pressed to the ground, sending a constantly flashing fierce black light across the metal threads.

Every Gold Element Mage was assisted by two Earth Mages behind them, likely aiding these Gold Element Mages in controlling the ground.

Further away was a rotating line of Fire Element Mages… All they needed to do was cast fire walls ahead of the knights, a mindless task, really the simplest job for the Undead Tribe.

Since the battle reached the rhythm they excelled at, there was no need to worry about the outcome; thus, almost an hour later, these purple worms, having dispatched a large number of Undead Tribe members, were led to their demise amidst continuous wails.

Hill was a bit surprised… Reasonably, the purple worm leader should have held on a bit longer… but from the Undead Tribe’s behavior, it seemed to have completely perished as well.

Hill wouldn’t doubt the judgment of the Undead Tribe… Only when the Life Fire completely vanishes would William distribute experience points to them.

“Old Dog!” called an Undead Tribe member handling the loot, “There’s something under the big worm’s belly!”

Snow Cloud Peak, who was discussing follow-up strategies with some clan leaders, looked up blankly, “Then dig it up, won’t you? Didn’t Hill pass on the message that he’s collecting all the materials from these things?”

“Uh… Old Dog, you’d better come take a look!” the person said hesitantly.

Snow Cloud Peak had to lead people through the onlookers from the Undead Tribe and head over, and then they all fell silent involuntarily.
