Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 995: Chapter 790: The Haber Family’s Original Target

Fran silently looked at Hill. It seems that Long Saddle Town truly annoyed his grandson; he actually said such things.

However, Hill always focused only on outcomes, not processes. No matter how innocent the other party seemed, as long as the result was harmful to Hill, he would generally consider them hostile.

Fran sighed inwardly, his eyes always fixed on the most important place... What an excellent Mage prospect! How did he awaken as a Magician? Otherwise, Hill would certainly be more suited for magical research than Adrian.

Fran always felt that Hill’s indifference to Alchemy Potion was due to his useless bloodline... Such great strength, what’s the use!

Celene curiously interjected: ”So, what did they raise?”

”Demon Lord.” Hill responded stiffly, ”At least a mid-level lord.”

”How could that be possible?” Celene exclaimed, ”How could a group of ordinary Mages who are not even level 30 make a mid-level lord stay honest for so many years? Mark City couldn’t do that either!”

Hill silently sat next to Fran, recalling how the Sel Necromancy School and their chief, Lich Sazzastan, had always been very interested in this area. Sel’s Necromancers have been wandering around Luskan... Then thinking about how Sazzastan suddenly acquired two Divine Artifacts after his fall in Neverwinter City... able to summon and control Demon Lord, Sakuxier’s Seat and Dead Moon Magic Orb.

These two renowned Divine Artifacts crafted by Lalock, the master of Warlock Fortress, were last in the spotlight when borrowed by the Witch Queen to summon Six Fingers Grazt for a long time of imprisonment play.

Even someone as powerful as Lord Wu’an had to honestly engage in childbirth play with the Witch Queen, exerting great effort to escape back to the Abyss.

So, did Sazzastan know about the Warlock Fortress appearing in the North long ago, prompting him to persistently search here?

Lalock, a former Sorcerer King of Naesreiel, now a Great Liche, is willing to sign contracts with Necromancers he identifies with, lending some powerful magical items... Though the Haber Family may lack the capability, the lady in Mark City could easily achieve it.

But how did the Lady of Pain get involved with the Haber Family... Could it be because of those Elf Princesses?

Why does Mark City want them so badly?

Is there an issue with the Moonflower Royalty bloodline?

This isn’t possible... The deceased former king, the Moonflower Queen’s husband, and their few unfortunate children are all still in the Elven Divine Kingdom, The Avando Dominion!

Coron, Father of Elves, couldn’t possibly misjudge the bloodline of his own descendants... Although it has diluted, the Moonflower Family indeed descends from him.

”Hill?” Fran couldn’t help but interrupt Hill’s contemplation. ”Do you know what’s going on?”

”Lalock has been an ancient Great Liche in Toril for a long time, holding many powerful Divine Artifacts.” Hill’s expression darkened slightly. ”The Lady of Pain has a good relationship with him, so he might...”

”You mean Sakuxier’s Seat?” Celene suddenly shrieked. ”Does the Haber Family also wish to become a Demon Warlock family?”

Hill helplessly pressed his forehead... Celene had completely misunderstood.

Indeed, the story of Six Fingers being caught by the Witch Queen to have her offspring is widespread in Toril due to these goddesses... Although it’s not the first time Six Fingers has been captured to the Prime Material Plane, the longest circulating story in Toril is always about his stud stallion days.

Though Goddess of Joy Lyril and Singer Miliel are propagating fervently... Lyril has been trying to overshadow Valkin’s rumors with Six Fingers’ disgraceful deeds... She actually managed part of it with the help of her current Good Friend Miliel, but spreading it so widely couldn’t possibly be done by just the two of them.

Toril has many madmen worshiping Demon Lords. Generally, people don’t dare to ridicule Six Fingers casually, as it’s indeed a life-threatening matter. Yet demon followers can stand no chance against those publicly proclaiming the affair’s believers of Righteous Gods... Like Celene, suddenly full of spirit now, who even once allowed her followers to paint a mural depicting Six Fingers shackled to a chair, unable to move, during the church’s renovation.

Countless people flocked to see the glamorous Witch Queen half-clad before the tall, handsome Demon.

Similar murals are present at Goddess of Love and Beauty Shuni’s place... But unlike Celene, she genuinely believes the Witch Queen’s courage to pursue her desires qualifies her to be a synonym for ’love’.

Celene is clearly just joining in for fun; she’s not fond of the possessive so-called ’love’ aim. The Witch Queen herself actually despises Shuni for defining her actions as love... She merely wanted the Demon Lord’s power.

Yin-Yang Balance isn’t anything extraordinary or bizarre.

”I think they might just want to extract the Demon Lord’s power for something else.” Hill said calmly, ”Not many Demons as handsome as Six Fingers.”

Celene awkwardly laughed twice, ”Haha~ Haha~ I’m just saying, casually saying.”

Fran silently looked at Hill, whose expression remained unchanged. He actually understood what these two were discussing... The deities in Toril are just so out of touch to have shaped Hill into someone so calm and collected!

Clearly, in Teraxil, he was startled and agitated by the elves’ messy affairs... unsure whether to say he’s matured... But Fran thinks that Hill probably doesn’t desire such maturity.

Hill decisively changed the topic: ”I think they must have the Dead Moon Magic Orb, otherwise they couldn’t be so secretive.”

”Are you talking about the Dual Incineration Ritual?” Celene said in a daze, ”That would indeed make things convenient... The Haber Family sure has many magicians. But using the blood of their own family... no, it can’t be that they are sacrificing their own family members, otherwise they would have all fallen to the Evil Faction!

Even if unaware, they would be punished by their lineage... Marko is still in the Kind Alignment, I am sure of that.”

”What is the Dual Incineration Ritual?” Fran whispered to Hill.

Hill looked uneasy as he replied, ”A very evil magical ritual.

Each time the ritual is performed, it creates a Chaos Rune, and this magic rune can bind a Demon Lord to the Seat of Sakuxier.

If one wants to permanently bind the creature on the throne, nine runes must be created and engraved on the nine faces of the crystal cones surrounding the throne.

Three prerequisites must be met for the Dual Incineration Ritual to take place. First, once a month, the ritual can only begin during a full moon. Second, for each rune created, a human mage of sufficient level within the Kind Alignment must be sacrificed, with a level at least equal to the rune.”

”So, is the Haber Family planning to create an inheritable Demon Lord for themselves?” Fran said somewhat perplexed, ”Are they really magicians?

Shouldn’t magicians rely on their own wisdom? What could a Demon Lord teach them about spells?

And then, entrust their safety to demons? Do they think their descendants live too long?”

Hill actually thought that the Haber Family might be going insane... While most Demon Lords are indeed chaotic and volatile, it doesn’t mean they don’t understand intrigue... Otherwise, they would’ve been swallowed by their neighbors long ago.

Hill solemnly asked Celene, ”Respected Celene, to bind a Demon Lord, does the ninth rune require a Ninth Ring Mage or a Ninth-Level Mage?”

”A Ninth-Level Mage could probably only seal a high-level demon; to bind a middle-tier lord capable of free movement, the Ninth Ring is fundamental,” Celene answered straightforwardly.

”A Ninth Ring Mage of the Kind Alignment is hard to find, isn’t it?” Hill asked softly.

”Do you think the Haber Family is targeting you? How could that be? You’re so powerful!” Celene exclaimed in disbelief, ”Wouldn’t sacrificing Marko be easier than you?”

Hill displayed a cold smile, ”Guess who the Haber Family initially targeted... Kind magicians aren’t plentiful on this side of Deepwater City.”

”Lai...la?” Celene said hesitantly, ”Impossible, right? The Seven Sisters do look out for each other.”

”How could it be Laila!” Hill said helplessly, ”Even if the Lady of Pain from Mark City intervened, she might not be able to take down Laila! You’re most aware of Silverfire’s capabilities!

Moreover, Laila isn’t purely a magician.

But there is one person, who is not only a magician but also has the purest lineage... even that greedy chair would acknowledge the purity.”

Celene pondered for a moment before saying, ”So, that’s why Kelben targeted Edna’s father... He might have known about this person, possibly from information passed by the Haber Family... So, the sudden soul dissipation of Edna...”

She indeed knew who Edna was.

Hill sighed with a helpless smile, ”Something must have gone wrong with the original Edna, but she didn’t die directly, probably was affected by some Soul Poison... Unfortunately, she encountered a sudden burst of Primordial Power, which hurt her already fragile soul, perhaps... it shattered directly?”

Fran looked puzzledly at Hill... He knew Edna, the young girl contracted with the White Dragon Queen.

Why did it sound like she was already dead?

He looked up: during Hill and Celene’s conversation, there was always a milky white halo surrounding them, while the Little Fairies on the other side of the tree clearly didn’t hear a word, and were curiously peeking this way.

So is this a secret?

Fran didn’t believe that the goddess and Hill would only want to hide this from a group of Little Fairies; there must be a deeper reason... He decided to keep what he heard completely hidden within his heart.

”Grandfather need not worry, in three years it won’t be a secret anymore.” Hill said kindly, ”The Haber Family, they’ve chosen the best enemy for themselves.

And hopefully, Kelben has no knowledge of their actions, otherwise, he’d become the biggest joke in Toril.”
