Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 983: Chapter 779: Enemies on Bone Mountain

As he watched the moonlight gradually blend with the surrounding mist, Hill showed a relieved smile: Fortunately, to reduce trouble back then, he had handed over the control of the Floating Castle to Fran’s butler, the Tower Spirit.

Even Celene couldn’t obscure the Tower Spirit’s vision.

So without Hill having to say anything, Fran could find out what was happening from the Tower Spirit... and that was enough.

In Toril, moonlight and shadows are truly unavoidable presences, and other deities each have their means as well. People here have long been accustomed to living alongside deities... Things unknown to family and friends may be seen by a deity glancing around.

Like Lynn, who made himself another pair of eyes of a deity, there are plenty... Some people always feel being watched by one is better than being watched by all.

Therefore, Hill never cared how many guests were in his house.

If he truly had some secret matter to conduct or discuss, the Isolation Array is the most important tool... Concealment in terms of Laws cannot be breached even by deities. This is the restriction given by AO to All Gods, even he himself must obey it on the surface.

So the Array that Hill now sets up the quickest and most discreetly is the Isolation... Before coming to Toril, he was actually more adept at summoning arrays.

And before leaving that Aber’s continent with Fran, Hill also advised his grandfather about the Toril Gods’ habit of observing the world... Now the multiple layers of Isolation Arrays added to the half of the house where Fran lives, Hill was almost unable to understand anymore.

Hill glanced at the Otherworldly Whale floating near the castle and calculated in his mind the time for the half-plane to form... estimated to be about half a month more.

If Fran doesn’t like living so close to a deity, he can choose to stay in the half-plane by then.

So Celene’s arrival doesn’t worry Hill about privacy... what he’s worried about is those sisters treating Agleya as a battleground.

However... Hill slightly turned his head to look at the Alchemy Hall... Celene seems a bit interested in William... it’s just unknown what she plans to see, or wants to see.

William in Teraxil also has things to do; without anything important, he wouldn’t be constantly watching over here at Toril.

”Ahhh!” A terrible scream came from the giant screen... the previously silent Little Fairies also cried out.

And then came the roar from the Undead Tribe:

”What the hell is this TM?”

”Ahhh! It smells awful!”

”This TM is a mushroom!”

”Where is there such an ugly mushroom! Ahhh! This TM eats human flesh!”

”What the hell is a mushroom with tentacles? What has William been thinking? How could this not be blocked?”

”#! Have you TM watched too many films?”

”It’s attacking us! Get down quickly! Ahhh! I’ll just roll away!”

”Shut up! Shut up! Quickly set fire!”

”Disease spread! Priest save us!”

”Are the chatters sick? Quick! Fire Wall!”

”Forget it! Get down the mountain quickly! Old Dog is going to scold us to death! Talk later downstairs!”

The last sentence was almost screamed hoarsely, and it seems someone finally remembered what Snow Old Dog had said at the time.

Hill turned his head to look at the giant screen. He had thought the Undead Tribe would wait for everyone before besieging Bone Mountain, so he hadn’t paid much attention... How naive he was, if the Undead Tribe would listen, Shaer would have been holding hands with Suren.

Now the Undead Tribe had already reached the foot of Bone Mountain... Although ’Snow Cloud Peak’ had asked them to wait at the mountain’s foot for him to come over, hardly anyone planned to listen to him... that’s just not the style of the Undead Tribe.

This mountain isn’t high, but it’s full of cliffs and steep paths... After all, the previous owners living here didn’t walk on foot.

The narrow paths are hard to walk on, but they branch out many paths between cliffs... It’s obvious there’s something off, how could a mountain with no walking inhabitants have paths?

But the Undead Tribe isn’t one to think so carefully, they straightforwardly formed squads to go up the mountain, probably divided by family routes... They were now rolling and crawling, wailing as they ran back to the foot of the mountain.

Hill watched carefully for a while and couldn’t help but laugh... The neighbors of these Decaying Angels are Screaming Mushrooms, Purple Mushrooms, and Grey-whiskered Mushrooms.

Screaming Mushrooms are dark purple, while Purple Mushrooms are purple or dark grey, some with light purple interspersed with dark purple spots.

They look the same but have complementary abilities, often working together to lure their prey. If the screams of the Screaming Mushrooms catch the curiosity of a creature, the Purple Mushrooms will try to kill them with their poisonous tentacles.

The screams of the Screaming Mushroom are like the dinner bell for many creatures in the underworld... It’s probably the Decaying Angels who deliberately placed them here as guards...

But these two types of monsters are not really a problem for the Undead Tribe. What truly scares them away is the Grey-whiskered Mushroom.

This vile plant is cruel and very smart, formed from many gas-filled tough sacs, each as big as a human head. Hundreds of extremely fine, five-meter-long tendrils writhe above these sacs. These tendrils are covered in tiny barbs, their color a dirty gray-black... with some strange liquid dripping from the barbs.

The sacs of the Grey-whiskered Mushroom can quickly fill with a very light gas, allowing them to float in the air current, and they can also jet this foul-smelling gas to move quickly in the airflow.

Indeed, the undead have once again encountered one of the representatives of the Underdark’s ugliness and disgust... and it’s also very smelly... You should know, the undead have a dulled sense of perception.

Hill moved his gaze away from those gigantic Grey-whiskered Mushrooms... whether it’s the Screaming Mushroom or the Grey-whiskered Mushroom, when they are first born, they are not part of the Evil Faction, but are neutral.

Especially the Grey-whiskered Mushroom, though ugly, is yellowish-gray, with tendrils that are semi-transparent milky white... They usually feed on animal blood and other bodily fluids... When they appear normally, they often coexist with some underground creatures that secrete fluids from their bodies.

However, if fed with human blood, they turn into this filthy appearance.

Most importantly, their stench is specifically targeted at humanoid creatures... It can cause most who smell it to instantly lose their will to fight, collapse, crying and vomiting, somewhat like a nerve toxin.

They also eject spores... just like the undead spreading disease, because the spores’ parasitism causes itchy gray-white stripes to appear on the skin.

True monsters living in the Underdark are indeed not easy to deal with... These traps laid by Decaying Angels, if a Toril army had come, they would have likely been wiped out by now.

Hill glanced at the Little Fairies in the trees before sitting down... They were pointing at the pitifully wailing undead on the huge screen, laughing uproariously.

Completely unaware of what just happened.

But Hill was very clear, when Celene came, time had not stopped flowing... so from the beginning, she used Illusion Technique to blind these Little Fairies’ eyes.

Indeed, Celene had been watching him for a long time... With her usual temperament, she wouldn’t suddenly guard against a group of beautiful and cute Little Flower Fairies.

He sighed softly: Celene’s temper has always been capricious, yet she never tried to save Vila... It seems Vila’s fate really cannot be altered.

The carriage of ’Snow Cloud Peak’ finally crawled slowly in front of the team, its unhurried pace starkly contrasting with the wailing undead under the mountain.

However, none of the undead asked why their commander hasn’t arrived... Not enough time had passed for them to lose their memory, they remembered that Snow Old Dog told them to gather under the mountain to observe first... in case there were traps on the mountain.

Not sure whether to feel grateful that these hideously ugly Mushroom People are well-managed, they would never chase off the craggy paths of Bone Mountain... Although on the plains, the undead could set them on fire, it’s obvious these mushrooms can float in the air... and would use tail gas jets to escape the flames.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ finally spoke, ”I just don’t get it... Why do you think there’d be roads for people where a bunch of flying monsters live?

Ignoring my words is normal... I never expected you to obediently follow command.

Yet you didn’t even consider using your minds?

Do you have nothing but a ball on top of your heads?

Those Grey Mushrooms’ balls are filled with gas; are yours filled with water?”

The erring undead could only hang their heads and take the scolding; no one dared to face the fired-up Snow Old Dog at this time.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ continued to wield their linguistic talents for a while before speaking in the silence, ”If there’s Holy Rain with disease-dispelling ability, spores can be infectious!

If you don’t have this power, don’t make it rain... especially Priests of the Goddess of Agriculture! Don’t even move! Your rain enhances plant life force!

#! Can’t you understand human language?”

Looks like someone’s handiwork was too fast.

”The Priests of the Sun God, single out those with overly long gray lines on them... Don’t let your family’s Priests become red-named.” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ very clearly stifled a breath.

”Then, Defensive Knights stand in front, don’t leave the range of the Holy Rain! Earth Mages go stand behind the Knights, start from 1 meter under the ground, turn all the stones on the ground into mud, quickly!”

”Fire Mages stand behind the Earth Mages, as soon as there’s a circle of mud, burn a circle!”

”Thunder and Light Mages, follow up, once the Fire Mage burns, unleash your area spells without stopping for a moment.”

”Other professions follow at the back, Priests in the middle, those who I’ve just let rain, don’t stop, others focus on healing the Knights.”

The battle of the undead quickly returned to normal: although there were Grey-whiskered Mushrooms attempting to float into the sky to spray and escape, they were all smashed down by the all-encompassing thunder and sunlight.
