Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 975: Chapter 771: Spring Is the Season of New Life

Watching Lynn leave, Hill walked lightly with a few thick books to the sky garden, as his interrupted enthusiasm for the experiment was nowhere to be found; he might as well read some more books.

The wind was gentle, the clouds drifting, his mood so carefree... Though Lynn would surely find an opportunity to retaliate in the future, Hill would never regret it.

A strong friendship~ is maintained through friendly exchanges with one another~

Hill finally found a good spot in the garden, where Lily of the Valley was stretching out, basking in the sun. To ensure each leaf could soak in the sunlight, the long vines hung with golden and silver bells twisted around the branches, finally forming a small, exquisite canopy.

The warm sunlight shone on the bench and round table below Lily of the Valley, and Hill was very pleased as he picked up a book, found a comfortable position, and started reading slowly.

The Undead Tribe on the giant screen and the little fairies in the garden were playing joyfully... However, the Undead Tribe was circling around a bonfire, while the little fairies were circling a large tree.

Although when they usually talk, it sounds like they’re fighting, their singing is quite pleasant, akin to Bai Ling Birds singing. Even when stepping to strange beats in the air, their little tunes from their mouths remain quite graceful and melodic.

Marsha passed on Lynn’s message a few hours later: ”Hill, I will remember this grudge... Just wait and see!”

At the same time, Terry’s lament and Tasding’s shouting came from afar, indicating that the two of them had followed Lynn to the Alchemy Hall due to their untimely curiosity.

But that had nothing to do with Hill... They wanted to watch the show themselves. The fun wasn’t for free!

Knowing this joyful... correction... unfortunate news, Hill could only sympathize with his friends; compared to him having watched the whole scene, these few must have fled just as things got exciting!

But if they were truly both disgusted and curious about the ending, then Hill couldn’t be blamed.

Unfortunately, the leisurely days lasted only for three days, as most of the Undead Tribe spiritedly continued their journey... If their time duration hasn’t changed, then for the Undead Tribe, this would be the second day of faction tasks.

During these few days, Agleya City experienced a small disturbance... A slight conflict broke out among the Elf City Guards, and Hill soon heard about the primary instigators... the Galle Brothers.

He didn’t even need to ask, knowing Lynn truly deserved to be his true friend, and promptly sabotaged his cousin... consequently, the unwilling Galle Brothers dragged the entire City Guard into the chaos.

The most incredible thing during this period was... despite several days passing by, not a single elf chose to first seek revenge on the brother who fooled them, but instead opted to trick the unsuspecting elves first.

Initially, the elves had a channel to uncover the truth... the little fairies, of course, wouldn’t have the concept of secrecy. To them, exposing someone else’s prank was also an amusing task... But the little fairies were determinedly finishing their incomplete spring festival and hadn’t left the sky garden these past few days.

Unfortunately, the last batch of elves, perhaps foolish, couldn’t accept being the final conclusion, so they tried to trick the gnomes, only to be rebuked at the City Guard Camp by those furious little ones, making the incident public.

This comedy, passed along in silence for a few days by everyone, only then concluded thoroughly.

Then the Elf City Guards entered a period of revenge for grudges, reprisal for grievances... Lynn didn’t dare to intervene as a municipal officer to stop their brawls, as it wouldn’t cause any serious trouble. He simply pretended to be oblivious.

And as the instigator, Hill was presently seated in the garden, watching the Undead Tribe orderly advancing underground.

The Undead Tribe delightfully chose the path with the steepest downward incline among the complex, dizzying branches underground... Their map’s ability to record surrounding conditions indeed came in handy.

Perhaps to ensure their revival points weren’t at risk... or more likely for future experience packs, the Undead Tribe bricked up every fork they passed with stone walls at least 10 meters thick, then marked them with numbers and family emblems, indicating they’re dividing spoils.

Most families or scattered teams probably had hundreds of or more Earth Mages... then these families sealed the forks one by one, according to merit points or by drawing lots; whoever sealed it would later explore it.

Hill thought they might adopt a lottery format, otherwise, using merit points might not be fair and could hurt the sentiments of scattered teams.

After all, the closer the side path to the revival point cave, the less likely there were powerful creatures.

The Undead Tribe really thought things through... Anyway, on their map, they could see almost all the routes within a kilometer, so behind some stone walls without any traces were probably those shorter caves.

Hill could only watch as they walked past, leaving a wide road. The most terrifying ambushes of the Underdark were, to some extent, rendered useless... unless one was truly stubborn enough to drill through such thick stone.

However, if they encountered such an enemy, the Undead Tribe would probably just accept it, as it would provide training for the ones left behind.

As the first base in the underground world, there would always be those looking to make money, and there were always unfortunate souls who needed resources for resurrection... Though the number didn’t seem large, defending against it with a secluded entrance to the revival point was more than enough.

During this march of the Undead Tribe, they hardly encountered a formidable foe like Lagong or a large tribe like the Stone-blind Barbarians. Although they did encounter the Old Witch, Carrion Creatures, and Ghouls, they didn’t pose much trouble for them.

Or perhaps, once the Undead Tribe defeated the Stone-blind Barbarians, the underground dwellers knew just how strong they were, and quietly avoided them.

Only some creatures with poor information, or no intelligence at all, lacking even crisis awareness, would remain on the Undead Tribe’s path without leaving, so they were all small groups of monsters who didn’t even stand a chance against the Undead Tribe.

The only thing that caught the Undead Tribe’s interest was the Old Witch who loved to screech. Although this thing would do nothing but scream and run, its level wasn’t high, posing less of a threat than a Ghoul... but it’s a part of many people’s childhood memories!

Who hasn’t been threatened to behave or be taken away by the Old Witch as a child?

So even though the commander cursed wildly upfront, most people followed their own ideas and took a picture with the ugly old woman hanging only by a few threads.

Hill guessed it was a scapegoat expelled after a failed power struggle; otherwise, Screaming Witches would usually rely on more powerful Old Witches for survival. Moreover, after it died, there was no Gold and Silver Jewelry on her... If there were valuables on the monsters, the detection magic on the Undead Tribe would inform them where they were.

The excessive safety of this path made a large number of undead lose their vigilance... Judging by their uniform steps, it felt like an endless train where, if the head was lost, everyone could only peacefully rest there.

Hill took advantage of this opportunity to peruse five or six more books, using the Transcription Technique to copy them and distribute them in two study rooms... He just hoped Fran wouldn’t notice so soon that there were a few more bookshelves in his study.

Otherwise, he would never agree with Hill’s way of reading... Fran always believed that mages were deceived by their own memory, so he insisted on carefully transcribing each book, only using the Transcription Technique once he confirmed there were no errors between the two copies.

When it came to transcribing magic books, Hill accepted it; after all, magic models do require serious attention... Alchemy-related books could be endured with a bit of willpower, considering memory consolidation.

But he really didn’t want to transcribe some historical biographies... hence he kept trying to pass unnoticed.

Yet he couldn’t deceive his grandfather into thinking there weren’t any books, so he could only hope Fran would immerse himself in alchemy experiments during this period and temporarily ignore his study.

So he could have time to transcribe more books... Hill secretly prepared to read those storybooks first.

The Undead Tribe soon paid the price for their negligence... A dozen long Purple Worms suddenly rushed up from underground... Although the Undead Tribe had transformed the underground passage they traveled into thick stone walls, piercing through heavy rock was the talent of these giant worms that were several meters long, with the leading one even reaching twenty meters long.

The only consolation was that although these worms were enormous, their attack mode was relatively straightforward: basically, it directly used its massive jaws to grab the target, leaving it half-dead before sending it to its mouth.

Although the captured undead lacked any attack capability, those who weren’t caught had started a fierce attack already... Clearly, barely a third of the people attacked immediately, while others seemed oblivious, foolishly standing there, being thrown against the walls by the crazily twisting bodies of the worms.

It took them almost ten minutes to crawl back up, wailing... While the food in the Purple Worm’s mouth was already onto the third portion.

They couldn’t quite understand why their swallowed food disappeared so quickly... But the Purple Worm didn’t particularly mind, given how often half-dead creatures suddenly wake before falling into its acid-filled stomach and find a way to escape.

Moreover, some useless things would be decomposed by the liquid in their bodies before that... Unfortunately, that didn’t occur this time; everything was gone without a trace.

But even if those upfront escaped, it didn’t matter because there were so many here!

The Purple Worm Leader lifted its head high, suddenly striking toward the crowd... Spring was already here! It must store enough energy for the children about to be born!
