Leisurely Traveler with Check-in System

The written and oral tests just now actually assessed the understanding of regulations, while the hands-on test at this moment is to assess the ability to operate and maintain equipment.

But when Chen Tiefeng really entered the engine room, he was stunned, because he hadn’t expected the installation of pipelines and equipment in a yacht’s engine room to be so messy.

Compared to the Explorer No. 3, which he had been maintaining since the beginning, what’s the difference between this ship’s engine room and the cluttered code of WeChat?

Chen Tiefeng even found it hard to believe that Lin Xiaowen could complete the troubleshooting of two positions within an hour.

However, despite seeming like an impossible task, Chen Tiefeng would never easily admit defeat before trying, and he boldly started troubleshooting using his own method.

An hour passed quickly, and Chen Tiefeng walked out of the engine room somewhat disappointed.

Li Younan asked with a smile, ”Teacher Chen, how’s the result?”

Chen Tiefeng shook his head, but said somewhat unwillingly, ”In my opinion, it’s simply impossible to find the problem within an hour.”

Lin Xiaowen said, ”I think so too.”

Li Younan paused for a moment and sighed slightly, ”I’m sorry, if that’s the case, then both of you might not meet my requirements for a chief engineer.”

Lin Xiaowen frowned and asked, ”How did you come up with this one-hour standard? If it were three hours, it might be possible, but one hour... Excuse my bluntness, I think this standard is too unreasonable.”

Li Younan looked at Chen Tiefeng beside him, who also had the expression of agreement.

Li Younan shook his head and said, ”Actually, when I got this boat yesterday, this was the very fault I checked.”

”Through my own troubleshooting experience, I think an hour is very reasonable.”

”At that time, I spent... over 20 minutes.”

Hearing this, Lin Xiaowen and Chen Tiefeng stared blankly, ”This... how is that possible?”

At this moment, the yacht’s real chief engineer expressed with a somewhat complex expression, ”I can vouch... this is true.”

Lin Xiaowen and Chen Tiefeng looked at each other and were silent.

...

Lin Xiaowen had already left.

Chen Tiefeng’s son patted his dad’s shoulder and comforted him, ”It’s alright, Dad, don’t be too upset. Didn’t the institute arrange a clerical job for you? Not going on board anymore; waiting onshore for retirement is good, isn’t it?”

But after a moment of silence, Chen Tiefeng raised his head, his gaze became determined again.

He took out his phone, dialed the number that had previously notified him of the interview, and a girl answered the phone: ”Hello.”

”Hello, I’m Chen Tiefeng. I would still like to see Teacher Li Younan.

”Uh, I want to ask him...”

On the other end, Jing Chaoyi covered the phone’s microphone and asked Li Younan, ”It’s a call from Chen Tiefeng. He says he wants to meet you.”

Li Younan’s lips curled into a slight smile, and he said thoughtfully, ”It seems he really has feelings for that boat. Hmm, let’s meet him then.”

Chen Tiefeng’s workplace is in Shanghai, and he drove over, and their meeting was simple, just at a parking lot on Changxing Island.

Chen Tiefeng drove over in his newly bought small electric car, got out of the car, and straightforwardly said, ”If that fault occurred on Explorer No. 3, I could locate the fault’s position within 10 minutes!”

Li Younan paused for a moment, waved his hand, indicating to Chen Tiefeng that there was no need to say more, then slightly more relaxedly said, ”Where is the Explorer No. 3 now?”

Chen Tiefeng’s expression finally relaxed as he said, ”At the Shanghai Maritime Base Wharf.”

Li Younan smiled and said, ”Ah, well then, let’s go see this research ship tomorrow.”
