Leisurely Traveler with Check-in System

Explorer No. 3 is a 56-meter-class small research ship.

Li Younan and Chen Tiefeng finally saw this commendable vessel at the dock, a ship that had been on Chen Tiefeng’s mind constantly.

From the appearance, this ship immediately gives a feeling vastly different from an ordinary yacht.

This ship is 56.8 meters long, significantly larger than a typical yacht.

It’s worth knowing that yachts of this size are already considered large yachts. If a private individual wanted to build such a yacht, it would be impossible without an eight-figure sum, not to mention the additional modification costs.

The ship indeed looks a bit old, but the paint on the entire hull is still quite intact.

Although the overall appearance is not great, it inexplicably gives a very sturdy feeling.

Speaking of this ship, Chen Tiefeng’s eyes were full of pride, and he smiled at Li Younan and said, ”The core advantage of our Explorer No. 3 is its hull material and structure.”

”Let’s board first, and as we board, I’ll introduce it to you.”

The staff who came along with Chen Tiefeng led several people aboard.

Since the ship has entered the selling process, there are occasionally some entities or individuals coming to take a look.

But before this, Chen Tiefeng had never followed other potential buyers aboard; comparatively, he is certainly the person most familiar with this ship.

The staff chuckled: ”Old Chen, you rarely take the initiative to introduce; you must give a good introduction of our ship.”

Chen Tiefeng snorted: ”Of course I know that.”

Following Chen Tiefeng onto the ship, Chen Tiefeng said, ”Our hull uses CCSA H36 high-strength marine structural steel, you might not be very familiar with this kind of steel...”

Before he could finish, Li Younan smiled and said, ”I do know a bit, a military-grade high-strength steel. After grain refinement, the strength and toughness are quite good, with a yield strength greater than 355 MPa at room temperature.”

Hearing Li Younan accurately state the performance parameters of this structural steel, Chen Tiefeng was stunned for a moment, then his expression became somewhat odd, and he couldn’t help but ask, ”Li... Teacher Li, how on earth did you do it?”

”Do what exactly?”

”I mean, you understand these things so thoroughly, just like in the engine assessment before.”

Li Younan vaguely said, ”After all, I’m planning to go to sea, so I had to learn about this knowledge in advance.”

Chen Tiefeng couldn’t help but praise, ”You really are the most amazing person I’ve ever seen. The breadth and depth of your knowledge are much stronger than that of an average boss.”

Then, Chen Tiefeng patted the iron sheet on the deck and said, ”The paint on our ship’s surface is a three-coat protection system of epoxy zinc-rich primer, epoxy cloud iron mid-coat, and polysiloxane topcoat. I supervised the painting process back then.”

”Moreover, we used the sacrificial anode method; there are zinc blocks on some critical parts of the ship bottom. Our ship has sailed for such a long time, yet the rusted area on the hull is still less than 0.1%, with no welding seams cracking or plate deformation issues.”

”Let’s put it this way, although our ship already has nearly 20 years of sailing history, even if you completely ignore giving it any paint touch-ups, it could definitely sail for many more decades without any problems.”

Li Younan rubbed his chin and said, ”During the next modification, we can do some electrification treatments to further strengthen the rust resistance of key parts of the ship.”

Chen Tiefeng looked at Li Younan with some surprise.

Li Younan smiled: ”The essence of rusting is the loss of ions from metal, with the anode continually dissolving and losing ions while reactions continuously occur at the cathode.”

”By forcibly supplementing electrons to the metal structure through external electrification, rusting can be fundamentally prevented.”

Chen Tiefeng nodded, and of course, he was very pleased to further enhance the hull’s rust resistance.

And the previous sacrificial anode method devices, essentially, are also a way to replenish electrons.

If, as Li Younan suggested, a rectifier is implemented through an external current method, along with the zinc blocks from the sacrificial anode method, the entire hull will practically have no more corrosion problems to worry about.

He couldn’t help but be a bit impressed; Li Younan really knows his ships well.

Following Chen Tiefeng around the entire ship, Li Younan acquired a fairly comprehensive understanding of the ship’s overall structure.

It must be said, military-grade research ships indeed have solid materials and construction standards of a very high caliber, almost accounting for all conceivable situations.

Although the ship’s size is considered small for research vessels, its stability excels ordinary yachts significantly due to the onboard laboratory.

At the very least, it’s unlikely to cause seasickness.

Moreover, the entire ship adopts a longitudinal framing main structure with local transverse framing reinforcement, and the bottom layer uses double watertight compartments. Even if adjacent compartments are damaged, it won’t sink, its stability far exceeding that of ordinary yachts.

Even the deck’s standards are somewhat exaggerated, utilizing an integrated welding process. From Li Younan’s perspective with his welding proficiency, there are no flaws, no joint seams.

The load capacity, as described by Chen Tiefeng, reaches 3 tons per square meter, far exceeding the 1.5 tons per square meter of similar-sized ships.

With such a load capacity, it is entirely feasible to add a garage and park an off-road vehicle on it.

Seeing this far, Li Younan was already quite satisfied with this ship.

Keep in mind, if one were to build such a yacht from scratch, disregarding the time required, the cost alone would be at least tens of millions, and the standard of the ship built would surely not reach the level of this vessel.
