Leisurely Traveler with Check-in System

Because Li Younan is climbing autonomously, as opposed to commercial climbing, the biggest difference is that commercial climbing doesn’t require carrying camp tents, as each camp has fixed tents, with accommodation, food, and medical support provided by commercial climbing teams.

Meanwhile, Li Younan needs to bring a full set of tent equipment.

Of course, he has paid for it, and the camp’s food and medical supplies can be used.

But there’s also an advantage, that is, Li Younan doesn’t necessarily have to reach a specific camp to rest and camp.

He can choose his camping location anytime, anywhere.

Li Younan spoke to the camera: ”Next, we need to walk about eight or nine kilometers more to reach the next camp, known as the Advanced Base Camp.”

”Of course, the straight-line distance isn’t that far, but because we have to cross many moraine ridges along the way, it might take some time.”

Overall, this part of the journey is still not considered difficult.

Li Younan continued to move at an extremely fast pace, covering what was originally a five or six-hour journey in just over three hours.

The Advanced Base Camp is the last supply point for climbing Mount Everest; most supplies can only be transported here.

Upon arrival at the Advanced Base Camp, it was already covered in ice and snow.

At the Advanced Base Camp, there were other climbing teams as well, not just one but three, including two commercial climbing teams continuing upwards and one team retreating.

Once Li Younan arrived, he also communicated with the camp’s climbing teams...

And the thing that shocked the climbers at the Transition Camp earlier naturally shocked the climbers here too... let’s not talk about it.

Meanwhile, the audience in the livestream kept urging Li Younan to tell them how long it took him to climb up... just to show off.

Li Younan sternly criticized the livestream audience, saying: ”Am I climbing Mount Everest just to show off? Sorry, I have to criticize my fans, as they keep pestering me to boast about how I only took half a day to climb from Base Camp.”

”Ah?”

You have to know that the altitude here has already reached 6500 meters.

At this altitude, at least two rounds of adaptive training are needed to safely climb up.

Many people think climbing Mount Everest is just continuously going up, but that’s not the case...

Actually, whether it’s climbing Mount Everest or any other seven-thousand-meter peak, it’s a process of going up and down repeatedly, climbing to a higher place, then returning down...

The two climbing teams here have already spent three days at the Advanced Base Camp; they just retreated from the 7100 meters high C1 Camp recently. Using professional terms, this process is called elevation acclimatization training.

This climbing team has already completed two elevation acclimatization training sessions, and now they are prepared to wait for the next window period for another elevation acclimatization.

The Advanced Base Camp is surrounded by mountains, so the wind here is relatively not strong, but up at C1 Camp, the wind is visibly strong, so Li Younan plans to take a short break.

The Advanced Base Camp currently has over a hundred people; besides the three climbing teams, there’s also a national exploration team and local Tibetan people providing logistical support at the camp.

Li Younan sets up his tent.

It’s worth mentioning that the camp has only one source of water, which is the nearby glacier.

The camp’s support personnel need to use ice picks to chip ice blocks from the ice wall every day, collecting dozens of bags of ice to keep the camp running.

As Li Younan was feeling a bit bored, he started a livestream with interest, following the staff to fetch ice, and showing the audience what daily life at a real Mount Everest camp is like.

Standing at the ice-fetching point, one could gaze at the next stop.

The next important node is called C1 Camp, located at the North Col.

Those with good geographic knowledge would know that a col refers to the low-lying area between two mountains, also known as the saddle, where the wind is mild, terrain is flat, and camps are easily set up.

But climbing Mount Everest’s North Col isn’t an easy task, as you need to climb up a 400-meter-high ice and snow wall from the Advanced Base Camp, dense with crevasses.

And this is the first major challenge of the north slope.

While chatting with the ice-fetching staff, Li Younan was pondering... if he wanted to ski down, how he should plan the route.

Hmm... I’ll have to go up tomorrow to see how things are.

Upon hearing Li Younan intends to go up directly tomorrow, the staff were surprised: ”You... aren’t you going to acclimatize first? Although tomorrow is the window, but... you don’t have to be in such a rush!”

Li Younan laughed and said: ”It’s fine, I didn’t acclimatize when climbing Gongga Mountain before; if I feel uncomfortable, I’ll come down.”

”You... you really are... a mountaineering prodigy?”
