Leisurely Traveler with Check-in System

The drone in the sky was circling around.

Since leaving the highway and heading towards the mountains for a while, they had already arrived at the gorge.

At this time, Liu Li did not come along but stayed behind with the police and the professors.

Li Younan carried a walkie-talkie and some climbing equipment, and occasionally the chatter of search personnel came through the walkie-talkie.

However, the number of people entering here to conduct the search was not as many as imagined. After all, it had been largely confirmed that the items were stolen by monkeys.

The police, having other work to do, naturally wouldn’t focus all their energy on this matter.

Moreover, from the police’s perspective, the hope of successfully retrieving the documents wasn’t that high.

This search for them was more about form than substance.

Li Younan agreed to a request from Professor Zhang.

Professor Zhang is a renowned engineer within China, involved in many key national projects. Although due to confidentiality reasons, Professor Zhang did not disclose the contents of the documents, Li Younan could largely guess. After all, this is the golden section of the middle route of the Yarlung Zangbo River, where many major projects can be undertaken.

As a Chinese person, just because of this, Li Younan felt he couldn’t sit by and do nothing.

Of course, aside from this reason, Li Younan also wanted to take on the challenge to see if he could locate those mischievous monkeys.

After all... since he’s already here.

Since there weren’t many searchers entering the mountains, only about a dozen officers, many of whom were novices, they were rather scattered.

In fact, Li Younan did not hold much hope for the police, not because he looked down on them, but because, from his guess, even if the location of the stolen briefcase could be roughly confirmed, it would probably be on a rock face difficult for ordinary people to reach. Ordinary officers could not possibly get up there, nor was it something that drones could assist with, so eventually, it would likely require him to go up himself.

So for these other officers, Li Younan assigned them to conduct a grid search in the accessible forest areas, as it was also possible that the monkeys would randomly discard the stolen briefcase in some remote area.

Meanwhile, he certainly wouldn’t search aimlessly all over the mountains. At this point, he already had a very clear and precise plan, needing first to employ geological and ethological knowledge for accurate deduction.

This was a mountain stream within the gorge. The deeper you went, the more rugged the terrain became, with tributaries of the Yarlung Zangbo River flowing through, and more monkeys appearing along the way.

Li Younan had long since separated from the main group and was moving independently.

The first task was macro positioning. He wasn’t searching aimlessly with his eyes but decoding behavioral traces left by the monkeys and geographical clues provided by the environment.

Before arriving here, he had been observing for a long time using drones and binoculars, especially this section of the cliff. Monkeys are highly intelligent wild animals; they usually have fixed routes for ascending and descending cliffs, rather than moving randomly.

At this moment, Lobsang Zhaxi’s voice came through the walkie-talkie: ”Teacher Li, how are things on your end now?”

Li Younan responded, ”Pretty much as I anticipated.”

”The rhesus monkey society is typically a form of community living. A gorge forest that is large and rich enough in resources can accommodate multiple monkey groups, each with its own core territory.”

”Through preliminary exploration and observation, I discovered that there are three large monkey groups here. The area near the restaurant by the national highway is the public area for these three groups, and the monkeys active in these public areas come from different groups.”

By this time, Lobsang Zhaxi was entirely won over by Li Younan. What originally seemed an impossible task of retrieving the documents was gradually seeing hope through Li Younan’s extremely deep understanding of animal habits, analyzed layer by layer.

Then, Li Younan’s tone slightly darkened, saying a bit helplessly, ”Originally, the range could be further narrowed down because different monkey groups often explore the public area at different times in coordination.”

”But I found that the three monkey groups here do not use this method. They have instead each occupied different flanks nearby, meaning all three monkey groups could potentially have taken the documents, so all three groups need to be scouted.”

Speaking of scouting, in fact, the next step is patient observation.

Li Younan has roughly identified the core territories of these three monkey groups. Next, he needs to continue staying here for a while to find the few monkey routes these groups use most frequently for moving up and down the mountain.

Because these routes are usually the rock faces, crevices, gentle slopes, or consecutive ledges where energy consumption is minimized, the briefcase is most likely to have been dropped along these routes.

Only by further understanding these patterns can the next step of the search be effectively conducted.

This place is already five or six kilometers from the highway. Li Younan has been keeping watch here for one or two hours, recording some crucial information.

After several hours of patient observation, he roughly locked onto the core areas of monkey social activity.

It should be known that monkey groups are not evenly distributed on the cliffs; they have designated core platforms for resting, grooming, and playing.
