The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 145: Chapter 145: You Come Up, Lie Here_1

”Just take care of yourself,”

Lydia Howell said, and then walked over to the motorcycle, her arm around Raelynn Howell’s shoulder.

Carson Flores watched Lydia’s retreating figure and couldn’t help a wry chuckle.

Was he being underestimated?

On second thought, given that the Woolery, Browning, and Howell families were old prestigious local families of Polgel, their influence was naturally colossal. Moreover, since he didn’t carry the Woolery name, what could he do if the Howell family couldn’t even deal with the Browning family?

The matter of him crippling the Woolery family was sure to be hushed up by them and not leaked to outsiders. Therefore, it was understandable that Lydia, the Howell family’s proud daughter, would underestimate him.

Lydia started the motorcycle, and with the loud roar of its powerful engine, she sped away into the distance.

”Raelynn’s aunt is so cool,”

Rebecca Ward said enviously, watching the motorcycle’s fading figure. She seemed a bit frustrated, ”I feel like I can’t do anything and always cause trouble...”

Carson placed his hand on Rebecca’s head and ruffled her hair, smiling, ”You’re only eighteen years old, that’s perfectly normal. Don’t stress about it. Alright, let’s go, I’ll take you home.”

Rebecca narrowed her eyes slightly, her mood incomprehensibly subtle.

She knew that Carson saw her as a little sister, but she couldn’t help falling into the dreamy aspirations of a young girl, unconsciously viewing Carson as the prince charming of her heart.

Eighteen—it was truly annoying.

If only she were a few years older, at least then Carson might not see her as a child, right?

When Carson got back home, Shirley Miller hadn’t gone to bed yet and was leaning against a cushion on the floor, reading a book.

”You’re back,”

Carson said with a smile, ”Haven’t gone to sleep yet?”

Shirley Miller looked at Carson with soft eyes, her usual cold demeanor gone, ”Yeah, it’s the weekend tomorrow, no need to sleep so early.”

Carson laughed, ”I reek of alcohol. I need to shower first.”

After showering, Carson changed into a comfortable T-shirt and shorts and lay down on the bed relaxed, ”Why did you suddenly decide to promote me?”

Shirley turned her face to look at him, gauging his expression, seemingly finding no displeasure, and let out a quiet sigh of relief.

”As a team leader, there are many things you couldn’t get involved in. By taking on the role of deputy director, you can participate in high-level meetings, and if you have any ideas or suggestions, communication will be much smoother.”

Carson confirmed, ”You’re not planning to make me the director, are you?”

Shirley shook her head, ”No such plan. Of course, if you wish to, it’s not a problem.”

”Forget it!”

Carson quickly waved his hands, interrupting her, ”You know, I’m just a lazy bum. I can move to a different spot to lie down, but taking on heavy responsibilities is not for me. Fighting and stuff I am fierce at, but hobnobbing, talking business, drinking for business—I’m not good at that.”

Shirley pursed her lips with a light laugh, ”Understood, acting the part will do.”

Carson breathed a sigh of relief, then smiled, ”Good. By the way, how do you feel about cleaning house with a heavy hand today?”

Shirley’s eyes brightened, ”Ever since I took over the Miller Group, I’ve wanted to do this. I’ve been quietly collecting evidence of their misdeeds, all for today—today felt... amazing! I’ve never felt so exhilarated!”

Carson chuckled, ”From now on, you’ll be the Miller Group’s domineering CEO, with absolute authority. The thrilling days are just beginning.”

Shirley, with bright eyes, gazed at Carson, ”It’s all because of you that such changes have happened. I know saying ’thank you’ doesn’t express much, but if there is anything you need me to do, just say it.”

Carson looked at Shirley’s excessively beautiful face and a smile suddenly appeared, ”Anything?”

Shirley’s complexion abruptly reddened, and her heartbeat quickened.

What did Carson want?

If he now demanded something excessive, what would she do?

Countless thoughts flooded Shirley’s mind. She wanted to clarify, but felt too shy to speak up, so she bit her lip defiantly, ”Yes!”

Carson is a gentleman; surely he wouldn’t make an unreasonable request.

Carson smiled faintly, ”Then I can ask you for something.”

Shirley’s heart raced even faster, as she tried to steady her nerves, ”Yes, go ahead.”

Carson laughed softly and patted the bed beside him, ”Come up here and lie down.”

Shirley’s eyes widened in shock and panic.

He was inviting her to his bed, to lie down beside him?

What was he intending to do?

Could it be that he desired her?

Though Shirley had never been with a man, she understood that for a normal man to cohabitate with a beautiful woman like her, seeing her in a nightgown day in and day out, yet unable to touch, would be a tremendous temptation and torture.

Did Carson reach a breaking point and, seizing today’s opportunity, wish to take her to bed?

Shirley bit her lip, ”I should get up there?”

Carson’s smile intensified, ”Yes, come up, sleep here.”

Shirley felt her heart pounding as if it was about to burst from her chest, her blood rushing to her head, giving her a dizzy feeling.

To refuse?

Shirley hesitated; having just said yes and then immediately refusing would make her seem a hypocrite, wouldn’t it?

He wouldn’t do such a thing, would he?

Maybe, if he really tried something, she could reject him then?

Shirley mustered courage within herself, her cheeks flushed as she rose from the floor cushion, climbed onto the bed, and lay down beside Carson.
