The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 108: Chapter 108 Our Home?_1

Shirley Miller huffed into the car and saw Carson Flores holding his phone, her face suddenly stiffened, her expression awkward.

After all, Carson Flores was her legal husband.

When she was threatened by Hugo Combs, told to sleep with him, Carson Flores was listening on the side, which made her feel utterly humiliated.

”You heard all that?”

Shirley Miller’s voice was weak, as if she was feeling guilty.

Carson Flores smiled slightly, ”Yes, I’ll take care of the rest, just focus on your work.”

Carson Flores originally thought that Hugo Combs was targeting the Miller Group because of Samantha Tate, but after hearing the conversation, he realized things were not that simple.

There was someone backing Hugo Combs.

Naturally, Carson Flores thought of Brian James from the Supreme Sky Corporation, or the person hiding behind Brian James. The former was more likely since Brian James was in the midst of plotting against Shirley Miller and had yet to fail. There was no reason for the person behind him to look elsewhere and interfere.

Carson Flores would visit the James family again tomorrow night to take care of the James Family’s trouble once and for all, which would be the perfect opportunity to confirm his suspicions.

If Hugo Combs was backed by Brian James, then if he killed the monkey, Brian James, would that chicken, Hugo Combs, dare to stir trouble?

Whether it was Brian James or Samantha Tate, it all related to him, and that was why Carson Flores offered to help solve the issue directly.

Shirley Miller’s eyes lit up, and she looked at Carson Flores in surprise, ”You have a way?”

Carson Flores said with a smile, ”I have some assumptions that need to be verified first. After tomorrow night, maybe I’ll know how to solve the problem.”

Although Shirley Miller did not know what Carson Flores could possibly do to resolve this trouble, his calm smile strangely reassured her.

”Thank you. This issue wasn’t even your concern...”

Carson Flores chuckled, ”How can it not be my concern? I’ve yet to receive my nine hundred thousand commission. If the company shuts down, who am I going to ask for the money?”

Shirley Miller pursed her lips, ”You’re just fooling me.”

She didn’t interact much with Carson Flores, but she was absolutely certain that he didn’t care about the nine hundred thousand at all.

Previously, when she offered Carson Flores several million to pick out a sports car, saying she would give it to him in three months, he refused without hesitation.

By saying this, Carson Flores meant to relieve her of feeling indebted and make her think that he was acting out of self-interest.

Carson Flores grinned, ”Let’s drive, home.”

Home?

A mundane phrase, yet it sparked a moment of trance in Shirley Miller’s heart.

Could that be considered the home that she shared with Carson Flores?

Our home?

Shirley Miller started the car and drove in silence until they were near the neighborhood. Instead of going straight home, she stopped the car by the eateries on the outskirts of the community.

Carson Flores asked in surprise, ”Do you want to buy something?”

Shirley Miller shook her head, ”You haven’t eaten yet, let me treat you to dinner.”

Realizing, Carson Flores smiled, ”There’s no need for that. I’ll just whip something up when I get back, you know my cooking skills are quite good.”

Shirley Miller insisted, ”Let’s do this, I’ll join you. I’m not full myself.”

Since Shirley Miller insisted, Carson Flores didn’t refuse.

”Hotpot, is that okay?”

”Sure.”

The two sat down in the hotpot restaurant, and Carson Flores, without being formal with Shirley Miller, ordered a table full of dishes and ice-cold beer, then looked up and asked, ”What drink would you like?”

Shirley Miller replied, ”I’ll have beer as well. I can just leave the car here and drive it out tomorrow.”

”Okay!”

Once the food arrived, they started enjoying the hotpot.

Looking at Carson Flores across the table, Shirley Miller suddenly asked, ”Your time in the military wasn’t as an ordinary soldier, was it?”

Carson Flores smiled, not hiding anything, ”Yes, special forces soldier. I was part of a special unit that carried out unique missions. We weren’t many, and ordinary people generally didn’t know we existed.”

Shirley Miller realized, no wonder Carson Flores was able to procure a pair of earrings with a listening device. Such gadgets were clearly not something an ordinary person could obtain, and Carson Flores possessed a disposition, that calm and composed demeanor even when faced with life and death, or the fall of Mount Tai.

”Are you very skilled?”

Carson Flores took a big bite of his food and laughed, ”If you’re referring to fighting, then yes.”

Shirley Miller’s movements while eating became much more gentle, a pleasing sight, ”Can you talk about your past life, or if you’d rather not, it’s okay not to say.”

Carson Flores picked up his beer bottle and poured for himself, ”I’m an orphan. My master found me and raised me, taught me how to fight, how to practice medicine. At the age of 22, he conned me into joining the special forces, and I stayed for five years. I’ve recently retired and returned home...”

Carson Flores suddenly became agitated, ”That old man, fearing I would come after him, actually ran away. He left just a letter, informing me that he had arranged a match for me. He even took my salary card with him. I almost didn’t have enough money to come to Polgel!”

Listening to Carson Flores’s irritated tone, Shirley Miller pictured him in an empty house, full of grievances with nowhere to vent them. The corners of her mouth involuntarily curled up, her mood inexplicably lifted.

”I’ve never met your master.”

Shirley Miller smiled and said, ”Sounds like your daily interactions must have been quite interesting...”

Carson Flores snorted, ”That lazy old man was something else. He’d often run off, leaving me alone at home when I was just a few years old, not even worried that I might be carried off by wolves. When he finally did come back, he would just slouch in his chair all day, and I would have to look after him, doing all the chores. He wouldn’t work to earn money, and life was miserable. Moreover, in his note this time, he said that he ran out of money before and had to borrow a sum from your grandfather to keep us fed...”
