Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 159: Chapter 157: Gu Xi’s Mission (37/148)

The Evil Coffin moved very quickly, and in the blink of an eye, Liu Zishi led Gu Xi to an open space.

Jumping down from the Evil Coffin, Liu Zishi took out the Token that the Mage Leader had given him.

At this moment, the Token was emitting a dazzling light, indicating that this was their target location.

”This is the place. I will place the Token here, and your task is to guard this position until the light on the Token disappears.”

Listening to this task, Gu Xi’s eyes focused.

As the saying goes, the bigger the matter, the fewer the words.

The task at hand sounded simple, but many things were hidden beneath the surface.

Like guarding this position, how large was the area? If enemies passed by nearby, would he need to fight?

And guarding until the light on the Token disappears, how long is that?

If Gu Xi couldn’t hold it, would anyone come to help?

These were all questions.

But Liu Zishi had no intention of explaining to Gu Xi. Seeing Gu Xi nod, he quickly placed the Token on the ground.

Soon, Gu Xi found that a layer upon layer of black Magic Array appeared on the ground centered around the Token.

At the spot where the Magic Array expanded, Gu Xi could even feel something wriggling underground.

When the black Magic Array expanded into a gigantic one with a diameter of about a thousand meters, Gu Xi understood how large his guarding range needed to be.

Meanwhile, at the original location where the Token was placed, the ground started to rise into a platform, and the Token was firmly embedded on top of it.

This Token was emitting a light that eventually enshrouded the Magic Array before him with a faint white glow.

Seeing this, Liu Zishi finally nodded in satisfaction.

”Alright, my task is completed. The rest is up to you.”

”Wait, Comrade Liu, I want to ask, if a battle breaks out, the battlefield...”

”Oh, everything on the battlefield is yours. You have to clean it yourself, but there’s one thing I must remind you — avoid using Corpse Burst unless absolutely necessary.”

”Avoid using Corpse Burst? Why?”

Gu Xi had barely finished asking when he felt the ground shake slightly, and some arms reached up from beneath.

Then some Skeletons began crawling out from underground.

These Skeletons were obviously at level 0 at first, but under the Token’s illumination, they started leveling up quickly, gaining bone-crafted Longswords and tattered Armor on their bodies.

Is this?

Gu Xi looked at Liu Zishi.

Liu Zishi confirmed, ”This is part of the Undead Calamity Array, with large-scale Summoning happening in the rear. The Undead will be transported to the frontline through the Magic Array.

Whether you can use these Undead to hold this position is up to your own skills.

Also, the Magic Array in front limits the number of Undead to three thousand. Once full, you must wait for the Undead to die in battle for more to replace them.

You know the level of the newly summoned Undead; if they don’t level up, it’s your choice to use them as cannon fodder or train them seriously.”

”What about my troops?” Listening to Liu Zishi, Gu Xi asked seriously.

”Unlimited in number.”

”I understand.”

Upon hearing this, Gu Xi fully grasped the situation. He then thrust the Cold Wind Staff heavily into the platform in front of him. Subsequently, the City Gate from Yalidu City appeared behind Gu Xi.

Gu Xi used the City Gate to protect the platform used for storing the Token.

With the arrival of the City Gate, Luna also led Gu Xi’s Undead Corps rushing out from Yalidu.

”Sir, what is going on?”

Looking at the troops following Luna, Gu Xi asked with a serious expression, ”Luna, how many forces do we currently have?”

”Bone-Slaying Camp has 121 people, Combat Squad 1 has 26 remaining, Combat Squad 2 has 29 remaining, Skeleton Shooters total 133, Zombies around 39, and Ghosts 32.”

Upon hearing Luna report the figures, Gu Xi took a deep breath. He knew that his losses in the Medieval District were significant, but he did not expect them to be this extensive.

It was as if half the forces were directly wiped out.

Moreover, Gu Xi hadn’t had a chance to summon those Undead, so this loss was entirely his to bear.

”That won’t do. Luna, go reinforce our forces. I remember we opened a chest last time and got two Recruitment Coupons. Use them to summon a batch of Skeleton Soldiers and a batch of Skeleton Shooters.

Add the Skeleton Soldiers to Combat Squad 1, and the Skeleton Shooters mix in.

Also, go to Ghost Tower Bridge and summon all the Stone Golems.

Furthermore, accelerate work at the Magic Tower and Barracks. Once these two Core Buildings are completed, you saw the ten sets of design plans I sent back, right? Build the City Gate, Arrow Tower, and Moat in that order, and quickly.”

Luna had been with Gu Xi for so long that their tacit understanding was the strongest. Upon hearing this, she immediately realized the situation was quite dangerous, so she turned back to the city and began acting according to Gu Xi’s instructions.

At this time, Di Mi, who was idle, also walked up to the City Gate. She looked at Gu Xi standing on the Evil Coffin with the Ice Staff and said leisurely.

”Sir, you have to prepare for a big battle, but you don’t seem well-prepared. Your Mana is obviously lacking. Aren’t you going to rest first?”

Gu Xi turned to glance at Di Mi, a trace of doubt flashing in his eyes.

”Don’t look at me like that. I’m just saying that while I can’t help you fight yet, I can remind you.

After all, I am depending on you now, and I don’t want to wake up one day to find you and your city gone.”

”Thank you.”

Gu Xi glanced back at Di Mi and, quite decisively, lay down on the Evil Coffin, snuggled a blanket over his stomach, and closed his eyes for a nap.

As for the battlefield before him, Gu Xi didn’t need to keep watch constantly as Luna was directing the Undead Corps pouring out from Yalidu.

Under the command of the Undead Boss, the Undead forces under Gu Xi had already positioned themselves on the battlefield.

Simultaneously, influenced by the Undead Calamity Magic Array, Skeletons continued crawling out from underground.

Their strength was temporarily enhanced under the illumination.

Of course, their strength wouldn’t increase infinitely — the upper limit of their enhancement depended on the individual Undead’s strength.

Some Skeletons could only increase to level 1, while others could reach level 3.

Without needing Gu Xi’s command, the Undead Bosses under him started communicating with those Skeletons that showed potential, hoping to incorporate them into their squads.

But for some reason, these Undead were willing to follow the commands of the Undead Bosses yet unwilling to join the squads.

After trying several times, the Undead Bosses had to abandon organizing these Undead into squads, focusing instead on positioning and waiting.
