I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 544, One Month Shelf Life

Yu Ying braved the heavy snow to carry back a large bundle of fresh flowers to the Yong’an Building, with Yan Hua helping to brush the snow off her body.

She said with a smile, “Shaman, it’s so warm inside the greenhouse, and all the flowers are blooming so beautifully.”

What Yu Ying liked most was going to the greenhouse, because she found it very warm inside. Moreover, going inside allowed her to see vibrant green, as well as the various colours from the flowers there, which could not be seen amidst the vast white snow.

So, every morning when going to the greenhouse, she was very happy, not only because she could feel the warmth, but also because of those colourful plants.

“Quickly drink some hot water so you don’t catch a cold.” Su Bai advised. With such cold weather outside, one still needed to be careful.

Although he had his Curing Skill, catching a cold was still very uncomfortable, so it was better to avoid it if possible.

“I’m fine, Shaman. I’ve brought back the flowers, so how do we make perfume?” Yu Ying asked impatiently.

This time the trip to the greenhouse was very short, because she wanted to quickly learn how to make perfume, so she quickly brisk walked, even though it was snowing outside.

Fortunately, all the accumulated snow had been cleared away, so walking was not much of an issue, and naturally it took less time.

“Shaman, are we using these flowers to make perfume?” Yan Hua asked curiously. When Yu Ying left, she had asked what perfume was.

After getting an explanation, she also became excited, wishing she could have gone along to pick flowers.

“Yes, we’ll use these flowers to make perfume, and it’s very simple, won’t take much time,” Su Bai smiled.

He had carefully recalled last night the books and videos he had seen back on Earth, knowing that making perfume was not actually difficult, requiring only a few steps.

“Shaman, is there anything we need to do?” Sha Lan flicked her cat ears, with anticipation also showing on her face.

“Take these flowers to wash them, make sure they’re clean, then bring the alcohol over,” Su Bai instructed.

“Yes.” The three girls said in unison, beginning to divide the work amongst themselves.

More than ten minutes later, all the flowers had been washed clean, with water droplets still dripping from the delicate petals, and a jar of alcohol had been placed to one side.

Su Bai first took out a bunch of roses, which had also been grown from the large packet of flower seeds that the System had previously provided.

The packet of flower seeds from the System contained many types of flowers. He was not clear on exactly what flowers they all were, so he had scattered and planted them all.

He plucked all the rose petals one by one, then put them all in a bowl. After all the rose petals had been picked into it, he took out a stick and began to crush all those roses.

“Shaman, why is this step necessary? These flowers are so beautiful, why must they all be crushed?” Yu Ying asked.

She loved roses, and had liked them even more since learning about their meaning.

Whether it was the appearance of roses or their fragrance, she loved them equally, and would look at them for a long time every time she went to the greenhouse.

“This is to let the rose fragrance disperse more thoroughly, so that the perfume made will be more fragrant.” Su Bai explained.

After crushing all the rose petals, he put them into a small bottle, then opened the alcohol and poured it in.

“Shaman, why pour in alcohol? Didn’t you say before that alcohol was for disinfecting?” Yu Ying was puzzled again.

“This is also to let the fragrance evaporate better, letting the rose scent directly merge into the alcohol.” Su Bai said while operating.

“So that’s how it is,” Yu Ying nodded with partial understanding, her pink eyes continuously watching the operation.

Because she had heard that one could make perfume of whatever scent they liked, she had to record this operation properly.

After Su Bai poured the alcohol into the rose petals, he began to cap the bottle and shake it, ensuring that the alcohol and rose petals merged together perfectly.

After completing this operation, he took out a small piece of linen and placed it over the bottle’s opening.

Then he took out another bottle and poured the shaken rose petal alcohol mixture through the linen into the other bottle.

“Shaman, what is this step for?” Yu Ying watched carefully.

“This filters out the excess impurities from the rose petals, so that the resulting perfume is purer.”

After Su Bai finished this step, he held up the bottle and continued. “This way, one bottle of perfume is complete.”

Yu Ying widened her pink eyes in shock, “Shaman, making perfume is actually this simple?”

“Of course. This is just a simple perfume, it’s not difficult. When conditions allow in the future, we can make more advanced perfumes.” Su Bai nodded.

This was the method ancient people used to make perfume. It was not very difficult, almost anyone could make it.

But the only drawback was that the shelf life was too short, probably only lasting about a month or so.

Unlike the perfume made through many processes back on Earth, that kind of perfume could be preserved for several years.

However, being able to make perfume with a one-month shelf life in this Primitive Era was already quite good, after all, not everyone in this Primitive Era had alcohol.

Su Bai could make perfume entirely thanks to that large bottle of alcohol provided by the System.

“If that’s the case, then I’ve learned it,” Yu Ying wagged her pink fox tail. Such a simple manufacturing process could not stump her.

“Shaman, how long before this perfume can be used?” Yan Hua brought her eyes close to that bottle to look carefully.

That bottle was not a transparent bottle, just a small ceramic item.

“Leave it for a while, when the fragrance has completely emerged, then it can be used,” Su Bai said.

Actually, he was not very certain whether this method could succeed in making perfume. He had only seen it in books and videos, but had never practiced it himself, so he could only see how the results turned out.

“I understand, then I also want to start making perfume.” Yan Hua was so excited she kept standing on her tiptoes.

“Great, choose your favourite flowers and start making them. If there’s anything you don’t understand, ask me.” Su Bai said.

“Yes, I want to choose this red rose. It is the same colour as my eyes.” Yan Hua immediately grabbed the roses.

“I also like roses, so I’ll also make rose perfume.” Yu Ying also picked up two roses.

Sha Lan just picked up a handful of lavender, saying. “This scent is special, I like it the most.”

“Be careful with the alcohol when doing this,” Su Bai advised.

“Yes!” the girls said in unison.
