I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 508, A Magical Scene

Translator: Silavin

In just half an hour, all the sugarcane had been thoroughly cleaned, and even the grapes had been washed.

“Shaman, all the sugarcane has been cleaned. We can begin now,” Yu Ying said, constantly wagging her pink fox tail.

Yu Ying’s face was always smiling; one could say she was looking forward to everything that was about to happen.

“Yes, the first thing to do is to extract all the juice from the sugarcane.” Su Bai said as he placed the sugarcane between two clean, round stones.

The two round stones had been specially selected for the purpose of pressing out the sugarcane juice. The gap between the two round stones was not very large, but it was enough for the sugarcane to pass through. Once the sugarcane passed through, pulling hard on it would cause both round stones to roll along with it.

This way, the sugarcane would be flattened, and its juice would flow out accordingly.

Both round stones were placed on top of a large wooden basin, so all the juice that flowed out would drip into the basin.

*Creak, creak…*

*Drip, drip…*

The sugarcane made crisp sounds as it was pressed by the round stones, and the sugarcane juice dripped into the wooden basin.

“It smells so good,” Yu Ying immediately caught the fresh scent of sugarcane.

“It really does smell nice, and all the sugarcane juice has come out,” Sha Lan observed attentively.

Every time she watched the Shaman prepare something new, it was particularly interesting. In a matter of moments, he could turn something ordinary into something legendary.

“Shaman, may I try?” Yan Hua asked eagerly from the side.

Whenever it came to this point, Yan Hua was always the most eager to participate, feeling that something would be missing if she did not try it herself.

“Of course, come on,” Su Bai nodded. This was indeed physically demanding work. Since someone wanted to try, he might as well let her have a go.

Yan Hua, with her tongue half sticking out and a mischievous expression, came to the stones, picked up a piece of sugarcane, and began to operate it with practiced movements.

*Creak, creak…*

*Drip, drip…*

Under Yan Hua’s operation, the sugarcane juice flowed down along the stones.

“It’s coming out! It’s coming out!” Yan Hua exclaimed excitedly. This scene was truly satisfying.

“I want to try too,” Yu Ying watched from the side, also wanting to give it a try.

“Go ahead,” Yan Hua generously made way, then took a small section of sugarcane and began to chew on it.

The time spent just extracting sugarcane juice was considerable. It took a full hour to fill a wooden basin with sugarcane water.

“Shaman, what do we do next?” Yu Ying asked, looking at the basin of sugarcane water.

“Next is purification. We need to clean this sugarcane water before making sugar,” Su Bai said.

“Shaman, but this sugarcane water is already very sweet. What else needs to be done?” Yu Ying asked curiously.

“Although it’s sweet, there are many substances that are non-sugar mixed into it. Purification is about removing all these things.” Su Bai explained.

Yu Ying looked confused and asked, “Shaman, how do we do this? Is there anything I need to do?”

“This step isn’t so simple. Bring me some limestone, those grey things we found earlier in the Hunting Ground.” Su Bai instructed.

Earlier in the Hunting Ground, he had discovered limestone, which had delighted him considerably.

“Alright, I’ll go right away.” Yu Ying immediately said.

“Shaman, but aren’t those grey things just stones? Can they really be put in here?” Sha Lan asked.

“Yes, you’ll see in a moment,” Su Bai smiled slightly.

Back on Earth, the common and simple method for purifying sugarcane juice used limestone powder and sulphurous acid.

*Step step step…*

About ten minutes later, Yu Ying returned with limestone powder. Su Bai took it and began to work.

“Shaman, what do we do after this step?” Yu Ying kept memorising the steps in her mind.

“Next is evaporation, which means heating the sugar juice to evaporate and concentrate it into a syrup that can be boiled for sugar crystallisation.”

After his explanation, he began his operation, placing the sugarcane juice in a pot to evaporate.

Su Bai continuously stirred the sugarcane liquid in the iron pot, ensuring it was mixed evenly. The syrup gradually thickened.

“Shaman, why is it starting to become sticky?” Yu Ying asked, surprised by what she was seeing.

“Just need to cook it a little longer.” Su Bai said, not stopping his movements.

The syrup in the iron pot continued to thicken before being poured into a plate.

“Shaman, is it done now?” Yu Ying brought her pink eyes closer to look.

“Yes, once it cools down, it will be ready.” Su Bai nodded. Making cane sugar was not a difficult task for him.

“How amazing, so much water has turned into so little…” Yan Hua also brought her red eyes closer.

“Is that it? It doesn’t seem very difficult,” Sha Lan remembered the production steps.

Half an hour later, the sugar in the plate had cooled and formed a large mass of what seemed to be a rock.

“Shaman, is it considered successfully made now?” Yu Ying asked, looking at the plate.

Su Bai also came over to look, touched it with his hand, and nodded with satisfaction, saying, “Yes, it’s done.”

He broke off a piece and put it in his mouth to taste the sweetness, finding the flavour to be exceptional.

“Shaman, may I try some too?” Yu Ying blinked her pink eyes repeatedly.

“Of course, everyone can try,” Su Bai said softly.

The others each broke off a piece and put it in their mouths. It was not too sweet, but the flavour was excellent, earning praise from all of them.

“Delicious, so delicious, it’s different from just eating sugarcane.”

“So this is sugar. The production process is magical.”

“I love this taste. I could eat it all day.”

“…”

The young women were all won over by the taste. Following the Shaman indeed brought surprises.

“Does it taste good?” Su Bai also quite liked the flavour.

“Yes, I love it. Shaman, can we start making grape wine now?” Yu Ying was eager to begin.

Although she had just witnessed the making of sugar, her heart was still anticipating something else.

After all, this sugar was originally made for brewing grape wine, so they certainly would not forget their next step.

“Hahaha!” Su Bai laughed heartily and said, “Yes, I’ve told you the process, so you can try to make it yourself.”

“Yes, thank you, Shaman.” Yu Ying immediately said.

“Shaman, can we try too?” Yan Hua smiled with narrowed eyes, looking like a child.

“Of course,” Su Bai smiled gently.
