I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 535, Hooked

Su Bai and the others were brought into that wooden house, and the interior area of the wooden house was quite spacious.

However, the lighting was equally dim, with only a faint hearth emitting an orange-red glow.

The entire atmosphere inside the wooden house had a pale yellow hue, making it difficult to see clearly, with only some vague outlines visible.

Next to the hearth, a large piece of wood had been placed, and beside the wood sat a person.

That person’s figure was not very large, and their posture appeared noticeably hunched, indicating they were quite advanced in years.

“Shaman, they are all people from the Flame Dragon Tribe, and one of them is even a Shaman from the Flame Dragon Tribe.” Ah Liv introduced from the side.

In fact, before Su Bai and the others had entered, the young woman had already gone in ahead to report.

Speaking again at this moment was merely to ensure both sides understood the situation and break the current impasse, as everyone was remaining silent.

“I heard from Ah Liv that you’ve come to seek cooperation with us?” The voice from the darkness spoke in quite a soft voice. The voice sounded somewhat weathered, further confirming that his age was indeed quite advanced.

He was the Shaman of the Green Vine Tribe, named Lu Zheng, aged around sixty to seventy years, having managed the Green Vine Tribe for several decades.

From the silhouette in the darkness, his figure did not appear very tall, approximately 1.65 metres, and his face looked quite gaunt, with his cheeks clearly sunken.

The other features were not very clear to discern; the above characteristics were what Su Bai could roughly make out through the weak firelight.

Su Bai collected himself and responded, “That’s correct, our Flame Dragon Tribe wishes to cooperate with you.”

Shaman Lu Zheng was clearly taken aback upon hearing the other party’s voice, never having expected it to sound so young. He also examined the other party’s appearance through that weak firelight, and this observation shocked him even more.

The other party appeared as young as his voice suggested. Could this really be the Shaman of the Flame Dragon Tribe? That would be utterly preposterous. How could such a young man be a Shaman? Moreover, why would a Shaman leave his Tribe?

Based on these two points alone, the other party’s identity was highly questionable, and his facial expression immediately soured.

If they were genuinely discussing cooperation, he would certainly be willing, but if they were using cooperation as a pretext for deception, that would make them enemies.

The other party claimed to be a Shaman, but whether judging by age or the sound of his voice, it seemed implausible.

Although the lighting was not very bright, Su Bai’s handsome appearance was clearly visible. His bearing was indeed quite refined, but this bore no connection whatsoever to his supposed identity as a Shaman.

“If your Tribe is not genuinely interested in cooperation, then please return. Do not waste my time. Given the current snow season, you should not return too late, else you might encounter danger,” Shaman Lu Zheng sternly warned.

He was somewhat angered by the other party’s apparent insincerity and no longer wished to continue discussions of cooperation.

However, seeing that the other party was quite young, he felt some reluctance to be too harsh and just wanted them to quickly return to their tribe.

“Hmm? I wonder what you mean by that?” Su Bai asked in confusion, not understanding why the other party had suddenly become angry.

Moreover, from the other party’s tone, he seemed quite incensed, which was rather baffling.

“You claim to be the Shaman of the Flame Dragon Tribe. To fabricate such an enormous lie, you could have claimed any other identity and I wouldn’t have been so angry,” Shaman Lu Zheng no longer wished to continue the conversation.

He closed his eyes slightly and waved his hand dismissively, signalling for the other party to leave quickly, as he did not wish to engage in pointless chatter with these youngsters.

“Haha…” Su Bai laughed heartily, saying, “I wondered what it was about. So that is the reason for your anger.”

He finally understood. He had thought they might have done something wrong, but it turned out to be merely a misunderstanding.

It seemed the other party felt he was too young to be a Tribe’s Shaman, and thus doubted his identity.

However, this point of anger was quite reasonable. He did indeed appear very young, and truly bore no resemblance whatsoever to the typical Shaman. The other party’s scepticism was entirely understandable.

“What are you laughing about? Is it so amusing that I’ve seen through your lie?” Shaman Lu Zheng asked with furrowed brows.

He felt the other party was behaving weirdly, and could not tell what he was doing.

“I believe you’ve misunderstood. I am indeed the Shaman of the Flame Dragon Tribe. Although I am not particularly old, I am genuinely the Shaman of the Flame Dragon Tribe,” Su Bai said earnestly. His expression was exceptionally serious, showing no hint of jest, and he sat very upright to ensure the other party would cease their doubts.

“…” Shaman Lu Zheng furrowed his brow and examined the other party carefully. The other party’s demeanour did not suggest he was lying.

Moreover, upon careful consideration, the Flame Dragon Tribe had previously been attacked by the Black Snake Tribe. Perhaps at that time, the Flame Dragon Tribe’s Shaman had met with misfortune, leaving no choice but to select this young Successor.

With this reasoning, seeing such a young person seemed quite plausible, and his expression was no longer as stern as it had been initially.

“Speak then. What does your Tribe wish to cooperate with our Tribe on?” Shaman Lu Zheng sighed and asked.

After his mental preparation and seeing the other party’s serious manner, he no longer wished to argue and now simply wanted to hear what the other party had intended by coming here.

“I wonder if you are familiar with the environment surrounding this Tribe? If you are familiar with it, I wonder if you might assist me with a favour?” Su Bai asked directly.

When speaking with an elderly Shaman, it was better to be straightforward rather than beat around the bush.

“Having spent so much time in this Tribe, I naturally know what Tribes exist in the vicinity. What favour do you need, and what can you offer in return?” Shaman Lu Zheng was also a direct person.

“Please first examine this item. If it catches your interest, we can then discuss cooperation.” Su Bai passed over the ceramic bowl.

After Shaman Lu Zheng received the ceramic bowl, he began examining it carefully, and immediately upon handling it, he was completely enamoured with the sensation.

The feeling was like holding a stone, yet different from stone, it was more comfortable to hold, and the appearance was far more appealing as well.

The shape was also rather distinctive, unlike anything he had ever seen before. He examined the ceramic bowl carefully by the weak firelight.

His eyes, though not particularly large to begin with, widened considerably while viewing this ceramic bowl.

From the other party’s gaze and gestures, it was evident he was utterly captivated by this object, practically unwilling to set it down once he had taken hold of it.

Su Bai smiled slightly and did not interrupt the other party, knowing that this reaction meant the matter was already settled.
